My mother has been in Brookdale Midland. They have been great. The staff is wonderful. All the accommodations are great. They're very attentive. When she calls on the button, they're arrive to help her. My mother is in a private room. It is a studio for handicapped people. There is a walk-in shower, which is great. It is wheelchair accessible. She basically has a handicapped room with a refrigerator and a sink. They do have activities. They hand out a calendar once a month, and it shows all the activities. They have an exercise room, they have things that people can join in for the exercise, they have a church ceremony on the weekends if they want to attend, they bring in local girls and boys scout for entertainment, and sometimes they have volunteers that come in and entertain them.

The tour experience at Brookdale Midland was good. We did not like it as much though. The rooms were empty, but some of the showers were not clean. And in some of the showers, you had to step up to get in and there's not a lot of room to put a stool-type thing. The road noise was bad. The people were great. We looked at their menu and it was very interesting. It looked good. Some things were fine, but we just were not as pleased with it. The staff who gave the tour was fantastic. She knew her business. She explained things to us very well. I think it was just the facility that we were not as pleased with.

Brookdale Midland was very impressive. I thought that the director was extremely friendly, informative, and very convincing. It was one of the very first places we saw. She was pretty awesome. If it wasn't over there in Midland, they'd be a bigger consideration because she told me of all the amenities; they had quite a lot. They had a beauty shop and that was included in the price. They had bingo, arts, and puzzles. They had just everything to keep the residents friendly. We met some of the residents, and they seemed so happy. One of them actually came up to us and introduced herself. She told us that she was about to go to bingo and that was a lot of fun. The feel of that place or the ambiance was just really amazing. We didn't see any of the food or try anything. We looked at the menu, and we thought it looked really good. They explained to us how they were very cognizant of their residents that have diabetes and make sure that they get the right kind of nutrition. They all were pretty good about that. I was so impressed with the director as well. The Brookdale people seemed to have the best directors. We really liked the rooms because they were set up so nicely, but they only showed us really small spaces.

We're going to Brookdale Midland for my brother's care. I was actually able to see it for the first time yesterday. It looked good, and we started moving furniture yesterday already. The apartment was OK. I wish it was a little bit bigger, but the biggest they have is a 1-bedroom. They don't have 2-bedrooms. I wasn't paying too much attention, but when I went in there yesterday, there were some people in the dining hall, there were people doing puzzles, playing dominoes and cards, watching TV, and walking their dogs. There were people in the church chapel, and there was one lady getting a haircut in their little haircut place. The staff helped me unload yesterday. I was unloading by myself at first, but I had some heavy stuff, so they were really helpful in helping me unload the vehicle and the trailer. They brought me the menu for the day, I didn't look at it that well, but I think everything was OK. The only thing that I was disappointed in is that we needed a 1-bedroom, not a studio, but the only one available was upstairs. We would have preferred it to be downstairs, but they have an elevator that goes up and down, so that's definitely a plus. Otherwise, it wouldn't have worked. It would have been nicer if they had a 1-bedroom downstairs. I saw a couple of small courtyards in the front and then the receiving area in the front, too. I spent most of my time yesterday moving furniture in and out, so I didn't really pay them much attention and the ones surrounding it.

My mom had stayed at a Brookdale, so I felt a little more comfortable with Brookdale. Moving to another state is a little difficult, but Brookdale Midland was nice. I was kind of disappointed because they let the girl I was talking to go in the middle of getting paperwork signed, so that was a little disappointing because I had a good rapport with her. But, everybody seemed nice. The requirement my mom wanted was to be close to the dining room because she has a problem walking, so we were able to get the second studio from the dining area on the first floor. I went up to the activity center and met quite a few of the people. They also introduced us to the employees. They had a little sitting room by the dining area with the TV, so people could sit there and watch TV. They were watching soap operas, and I said, "Oh my God! These are the soap operas my mother watches!" They also showed us five or six rooms. Some of the residents let us go in, so we could see how they were set up. It was nice.

We’re not very happy with Brookdale. We’ve had three thefts from my mom’s room. She’s a dialysis patient, so she’s out of the facility for majority of the day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. During those times, she’s had cash, CDs, and, just recently, her checkbook and credit card stolen. The management did not say one word to her about it. We called and filed the police report and reported it to them, of course, but nobody seemed to really care. So, I’m really disappointed. It's not a warm place. The staff is very unfriendly and uncaring. When you go in, workers will walk right pass you in the hall without making eye contact. There are two people there that are consistently friendly: the night-time med nurse is always nice, and the front desk woman who’s there during the day. Mom has only been there three months. We had to have a meeting after she had been there for about a month with their kitchen director, facility director and the charge nurse because she has a special diet due to her dialysis. Before we moved in, we asked them if they can accommodate that or if there’s going to be a problem. There are three different choices for their main entrée at each meal; she can’t have many things, but she really needs protein, so we were assured that she’ll have eggs every morning. It just has been a disaster. They’ve given her a ham sandwich. She can’t have all the sodium. The director of the kitchen definitely tried to be more accommodating. They started sending an egg to her room for breakfast in the morning, but beyond that, it’s still not enough food. My mom only weighs 94 lbs. She’s a tiny, little lady, but she can eat and usually has a really good appetite. It’s really frustrating. They do have bingo, and she goes to an exercise class that is like a sit-and-stretch class. They have a dominoes group, but she doesn’t like to do that. I think overall, if they care about their people and treated them the way they would want their relatives to be treated, I think everything would improve greatly.

It was good. My mother was there before. It was nice and well managed. The food was good. They had many activities during daytime to keep them busy. They had exercise, trivia games, and bingo. I would recommend them because of the care, and help was really nice and friendly.

I was able to look here and I like the whole deal of it. It was located in a very good neighborhood. The lady showed me several different sizes and several different price ranges. The staff were all friendly and nice. I was not able to ask if they have garages or not because it's very important for my dad, but I later found out that they did. I saw their activities, and one of them is an exercise class.

I visited because I looked for a place where my dad could stay. It was a beautiful facility. The people were very nice. I would definitely put my dad there once he agreed to go to assisted living.
