"I have been a resident here at the Lorien in Taneytown for over a year now. I can't get over how friendly and willing to help the staff is, every department and every shift. I moved here with my dog, who is the Queen of the facility. Every one knows her: staff, residents & regular visitor alike are all greeted by the white dog who lives with me. We both enjoy the activities especially the music. I fell in love with the courtyard on my first visit, it reminds me of the gardens I visited in Paris."

"I toured Paramount Senior Living at Chambersburg. It's an absolutely beautiful setting. It's in the mountains. The grounds were spacious, wooded, and well-kept. The independent living area was very nice. The apartments there are large and all one-bedroom. They're very spacious. The staff who accommodated us was the manager of the facility, and she was informative, positive, and very helpful. The dining area for independent living was small but very clean. They were in the process of cooking dinner, which smelled very good. They had bingo activities. They had trips to the local theaters. I can't remember everything that was on the activity list, but it was a very full activity from what I remember. If I could convince my mother to move in there today, I would."

"The Terraces at Westminster appear to be wonderful. They were quick to respond and they were quick to set up an appointment. They came in on the weekend to show us the room. So, the facility itself is beautiful, clean, and luxurious. Everyone we met has been super kind and willing to work with us. It's clean and it's just a great location."

"I visited Autumn House West in York to see their assisted living. I'm already very familiar with the facility. A few years ago, I used to be there every week doing communions for the residents. I talked with a lady in the office who also interviewed me and was impressed with the facility and its offerings. The staff is very nice and always right on top of everything. I find the facility very clean."

"I toured Nova Springs. The rooms were nice and big. It was all neat, orderly, and clean. The staff who toured me was a lady that was the manager also. The building was very clean. It had a very welcoming atmosphere. It was like walking into a motel or hotel where somebody was greeting you. The dining area was spacious. It had tables and tablecloths on them. It had decorations making it look homey. I only saw one room and the staff said they were all practically alike. They were very spacious. They had a TV, a bathroom, and a nice-sized bathroom. You didn't have to come out of the tub or the shower and hit the commode. There's plenty of room in the bathroom."

"My brother has moved into Celebration Villa of York. When he had major brain surgery five years ago, he was there, and he liked the place then. We checked out four or five others, and this one is off the main road. It's also behind a grocery store and it's behind a Dollar Store or a couple of restaurants, and it's in a community where he can go out and walk on the sidewalk, so I don't have to worry about him walking on the roads. Additionally, he has trees and wild animals in the backyard, which he enjoys watching. There is also a pond, and he can go down and watch the geese there. The staff members are polite and friendly. In fact, when we visited today, the cleaning ladies were greeting him as we walked past. The place is very clean. He has two rooms, which is what he asked for. He has air conditioning. When we first started to move him over there, he was very quiet, and he didn't say anything, but his first comment when we went to visit him yesterday was, "I love the shower." He was also in a better mood than he had been in for the past couple of days. When I was watching him eat, he had corn, a filling, and a nice-sized ham slice, and he was enjoying it. He was eating it big time. He eats Pennsylvania Dutch food, but they don't serve that. I told him that I would make it for him and bring it in. They have a microwave down the hall from his room, so that he can heat it up and eat it. They have a lot of activities. They have bingo. When we were there the other day, they had a speaker talking to them about different things, and the people were interacting with him. They have a guy who comes in and plays the piano. They have a whole bunch of stuff going on. They can walk outside without worrying about getting hit by cars because it's off the main highway."

"My brother likes to walk, but at Autumn House East, there were so many corridors. Also, the traffic outside on Market Street was just a mess, and I would not trust him walking out there or crossing the street to get anywhere. With the heavy traffic, he would be splat. The place was beautiful. It was kept up very well. It was more involved with the senior center type furniture, and the people were nice. We really enjoyed visiting there. They even gave my brother ice cream and peaches. It was a nice place to visit. The staff who gave the tour was very good. I didn't see the food, but the menu looked good. The cafeteria where they go and sit at tables was nice. There were a couple of them around at different places. However, the community has a lot of halls. It covers a whole block. They have activities for them to do. They're still in the process of fixing the back for them to be able to sit outside in the yard. They have games, bingo, and stuff like that. They were working on puzzles while we were there. Most of them were sitting around and talking."

"Victorian Villa was an excellent facility. It was about an hour from my home. It seemed professional but yet home like. The people were extremely friendly. I could sense a secure atmosphere, and I would recommend anyone to visit if they were looking for a personal care home as opposed to a larger facility. The rooms were spacious. The facilities were excellent and well maintained. They had an elevator for residents who needed walkers or scooters. They had exceptional cognitive activities which I really liked. "

"My dad will be moving into Morning Glory Assisted Living. The staff was very personable. The whole thing puts you in mind of an old boarding house. There are only 12 residents in total, and it's run by a family. I met both owners and two of the staff. They interact with the residents. It gives you that homey feeling. Everything looks clean and up-to-date. It's all home-cooked food, and it looks pretty good to me. They have a nice big front porch that they have chairs set up. They can go out and sit on the porch. It looks like a house. It's in town, so you are kind of limited as to the space you have, but I think they do well with what they have. The staff members were really cordial and very open about everything."

"We went to Homewood at Plum Creek. They have the villas, they have the cottages, and then they have the apartments and the care in the big building. It's beautiful. It's very nice. It is in a farm setting. It's very pretty. However, it was a distance for us. Also, they didn't have any available end units, which is what we would have taken if available. The people were very nice. They explained everything and showed you all the stuff you could have with your place. They had a pool, an exercise room, and a library. They had a lot to offer. It was immaculate, too. We looked at the cottages because that's what we were interested in. The cottages were fine; there were nice-sized rooms. They have two bedrooms, two baths, a living room, a kitchen, and a patio."

"My mom moved into Tree Of Life Personal Care. We like the staff. They're very accommodating. It's in our hometown where my brothers and sisters can visit Mom. They don't have to drive an extended distance away, so it works out well. They have three meals every day. The main meal is around lunchtime, at 12. They do have a light breakfast. They have the main meal in the middle of the day. They are not as heavy as a meal for supper, but a good selection of stuff. The cleanliness is very good. They have games and different crafts. They could improve on physical walks outside the building, not so much a gymnasium, but something to get the people out and about in the community, and take a nice walk."

"Country Companions was just assisted living ,and they said they could handle memory care, but they didn't let us know that they could only handle Level 3. It was good, but it didn't have enough staff for somebody who needed a little more skilled care. The staff members were nice and very informative. The single person rooms were fine and clean. Everything was nice if it suited what our need was. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere, and it was just a single house. It didn't seem like there was a lot of outside usage. They were very confused about Medicaid, and they only take Medicaid waivers. They said they're a Medicaid facility, but they're really not because they're not a nursing home."

"We chose Lutheran for the location. It met our requirements: the way the place was laid out, the services, and it had a lot more to offer than we were looking for. They’re really good. There were many things to do there, but my family member does not participate. "

"My sister-in-law is in Sharon's Personal Care Home. I like it because it's like she's in a home. It's an actual house. There are only like 20 tenants there. Her room is nice. It's two beds in one room, but it's good sized. It has a fireplace in it, but it doesn't work. They can't burn it, but it's a beautiful room. The staff is very nice. It's a mile from where we live, so we're there three or four times a week, and we've never had a problem. She's always been taken care of and she seems happy there. She goes down for three meals a day. They take care of her meds and they take care of everything for her. We like it. I've been there when they're having lunch and dinner, and it looks like they're home-cooked meals. They have a big kitchen there and they go out and they buy fresh food and fresh produce and they sit them all down for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They play bingo. Once or twice a week they have entertainment, a singer, storyteller, magician, or whatever they bring in. They seem to keep them busy. They won't let them stay in their rooms. They make them come down for the meals, so they can't just hang out and vegetate in their rooms. I haven't seen any problems. It is nice and clean. They still haven't gotten everything back from the COVID era. They do a lot, but they could do a little more. It wasn't the cheapest one that we found, but it was the best for the money. We looked at a lot of places and this is the one that we liked and settled with."

"Everyone has a opinion and their own way at looking at things. So are the reviews of Fair Haven. The facility is older but is well maintained. It’s kept clean and organized. My mother-in-law entered Fair Haven over two years ago. From day one she was welcomed and treated with respect. Eleanor the owner try’s to operate the facility the way it needs to be operated. There are rules the state says must be followed. This is what must people see Eleanor taking care of. Every place like this sees a higher level of turn around when it comes to employees. People do not realize what it takes to be a caretaker of someone who has special needs. They enter into it thinking it will be easy and then realize it’s actually work. Back to my mother-in-law. She enjoyed being there. They have activities for the residents to participate in. There is something pretty much every day . Everything from bingo to crafts to bible study. Also volunteers come in for different activities. They took very good care of my mother-in-law. Even when she started slowing down they did not leave her behind or left out. They adjusted what needed to be done. My mother-in-law had a dramatic turn downwards. It was quick and sudden. They did not bat an eye to what needed to be done. They went over and above. It was my mother-in-law’s home and that was the way they treated her. In my opinion they did a great job. You need to form your own opinion. "

"My in-laws stayed at Columbia Cottage Hanover. It looked like a large house. It did not look like a facility, the decor, the wallpaper, just the way that it was set up. You feel like you're in a big house when you walk in, which to me is very comfortable and it was very fresh smelling. The food was great and the care. My father-in-law had dementia and they would let him assist them in the office. He thought he was at work and they gave him great attention. The care there was excellent. I had mashed potatoes and gravy and chicken. It was not like a lot of facilities I've seen. It looked like real food. It tasted like real food. There were family events. There were a lot of activities outdoors. I saw people participating in the common area. The beauty of the place made me feel like I was not in a facility. I liked the homey look. Everybody had a wreath on their door and it wasn't all the same wreath. When you went in, he had an area right inside the door where to the left was a bathroom, and to the right was his bed right inside the door. A few more steps past the door, it was like an L-shaped, and he had two easy chairs there. It was his own furniture. Everybody could take their own furniture. He had his own recliners, shelving with the TV, and his family pictures on the shelving."

"Look About Manor, in my opinion, is not what I think of when I imagine assisted living, it is many times better. The number of residents is small and each person is given a level of individual care that gives the relatives of the patents peace of mind. It is a comfortable, home-like setting with beautiful views of the surrounding country side. All the meals are made from scratch in the kitchen and they are great! The owner is a great cook and loves to treat the residents to her wonderful meals. There is nothing institutional about the tasty, healthy food. In fact, there is nothing institutional about the Look About Manor experience. The staff there is wonder as well. They treat the residents with respect and kindness. The relatives who come to visit are also treated as family. We have come to know the other residents there and visit with them as well. It is truly a unique experience when it comes to assisted living. When my father-in-law was in another home visiting him was not a comfortable experience. Here at Look About Manor, we actually look forward to not only seeing him, but visiting all our friends there. I highly recommend Look About Manor! "

"Michaux Manor is set up beautifully and everyone is very nice. My mother has been difficult, but they have been trying to deal with her the best way possible. I would definitely recommend them. She's in a private room and it's large enough for her to have her queen-sized bed, one nightstand, recliner, and dresser. The community is located in the mountains, so the location is a little bit out of the way, but it's a beautiful drive. I like that it's not off of a busy road unlike other places, because she had tried to leave one night and it would have been dangerous. The food was fine, and my mom hasn't complained about it at all."
