I had a family member moved to Shawn Manor after a nearby facility had shut down. While I will say I do know some of the higher functioning more independent residents there that are getting more of an assisted living level of care are doing well, my loved one had a severe stroke and was completely dependent needing Total Care in all aspects of life and did not receive adequate care at this facility. When he arrived at Shawn Manor he was in good spirits still happy moods had been stabilized at the previous facility and he was doing wel. He was at a good weight he was doing so good that his feeding tube was removed. The transfer packet was never looked at, the staff never took the time to get to know him or his individual needs he was given their basic care and even that was questionable at the end. The admin did not follow up on complaints about nursing staff not giving good care they gave instructions to the staff to change things and never followed through or verified that the changes had been made. I was lied to about care my loved one received, the resident doctor was not completely updated or made aware of declining condition of my loved one, rather than following proper grooming and cleaning one of the nurses aides took it upon herself to shave my loved ones face without asking us. He took great pride in his beard and mustache and had never shaved so this was extremely upsetting. They minimized some of his decline and we're not truthful about intake decline and losing ability to swallow. I was not notified every time my loved one fell only if it resulted in him being sent out to the hospital. When his final day there resulted in him being sent out to the ER and more complaints were being made the admins threw their staff under the bus refused to accept any responsibility in their lack of follow-through and went into cya mode. The nurse and CNA to resident ratio is not adequate while some of the good staff members there try to do their best there's not enough of them to give adequate care for the residents that need more total care.

My experience at Shawn Manor last year during Christmas was very beneficial in several different ways. For starters, I was thoroughly enthralled to have the chance to meet several different residents of Shawn Manor and hear personal stories from numerous residents residing there. When first entering the residence I was taken back at how many residents were actually living at the place. With the amount of people all residing in the same location I assumed it would have been quite difficult to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. This was in no way true at all. The residents explained to me the quality of their stay at Shawn Manor and described to me that they were taken care of very well by the faculty who ran the home. I took notice of the room sizes where members of the home lived in. Each room had plenty of space for visiting family, which was a strong point for many residents when it came to deciding between houses to live in. Overall, my experience visiting the Shawn Manor gave me insight to see how the residents lived and went about their lives in a comfortable manor all to be thanked for by the immense and helpful staff working there.
