"My mother is at Friendship Health And Rehab Center South. All of the staff members are very, very nice and very helpful. They have lots of activities to do. She doesn't want to be there, but she admits that everybody is nice. The facility is beautiful. It's all on one floor, and it has four halls of rooms. There are two dining rooms, but they only use one. They would have everybody in the same dining room, or you could eat in your room. They have activities in the dining room when they're not using it for dining, so it's a great use of space. It's easy to get around; it's not hard to learn your way around. Also in the center is the gym for physical therapy and occupational therapy. They also have speech therapy, which is memory work for my mom. They have outings, and they would do everything that assisted living places do. Everything is nice and clean, and the cleaning never stops."

"My Father stayed at Pheasant ridge for several weeks after a stay in the hospital for physical therapy. He very much enjoyed his stay there thanks to the friendly staff, especially his nurses. He was pleased with his very large room that gave him the ability to have several visitors at once. The cleaning staff did an excellent job making sure his room was always clean. And his physical therapist that worked with him was always very careful and patient with Dad during therapy sessions that he always enjoyed having. If Dad should need more nursing care in the future, Pheasant Ridge will be top on our list. Thanks again for all your help! "

"My mom is at South Roanoke Nursing Home. It is a very nice place. It's an older facility, but it is clean. It has a good layout. It is smaller, but they are well-staffed. The staff communicates well with us. We've been there a few times, but we have been pleased because we feel like she's making some strides there. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that a lot of the people there really are enthusiastic about helping the patients, and that's a big deal. My mother loves it. She likes the people there. My mom seems to enjoy the food. She says it's good. Their therapy department has done a really good job with her in figuring out what she needs and they are focusing on that. They do day trips, bingo, they do things outside, and they do church study on Wednesdays where they have a pastor come in and he gives a sermon and then they'd say hymns after that. They have Music Day where they'll play music of that era. They also do some dress-up days for certain things. "

"The nursing home need stricter management. The level of care has declined. The male patients are unshaved, the female patient has facial hair, the fingernail are long and dirty, urine smell in hall. The dining hall during lunch time is like a social club for the workers. They are on the cell phones while feeding the patients, talking loud, using profanity."

"My mother-in-law has been in the rehab program for over one month. The care has been very good especially the OT/PT professionals. The food is good as I have eaten dinner with my mother-in-law many times. There is a quite a number of permanent residents which I interact with who seem happy with the staff and facility. "

"I was interested in Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, but they have a long waiting list. I had several friends that were residents there and I thought they were great. I really liked the place. I never saw the apartments. I only saw the rehab and the nursing home part. At Brandon Oaks, they have little cottages or if a person wants to retire with assisted living, they could go in there, but I never saw any of those. I didn't have any friends in there after Covid, but before Covid, you didn't have to make an appointment, you could just go up anytime and go visit. The rooms were all good. The facility was very clean. I liked their staff. The staff was very friendly, very caring and loving with the residents. When I was there, I noticed all that and I liked it. They had a lot of things set up where they bring everybody into the cafeteria, and they'd have little awards they give the residents. During the time when the Emmy's and Oscar's were on TV, they would have a little Emmy or Oscar award ceremony for all the residents. They had a lot of music groups come up and play for them. I thought it was really good. The cafeteria was really nice. It didn't look like a hospital cafeteria. It looked like you'd go to a nice restaurant. You have all these tables and the walls or panels. It was just very pretty. Sometimes, we'd go out on the front lawn and they had a gazebo. I tried the food there, and it was fantastic."

"My mother-in-law is staying in Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab Center, and I think it's pretty good. Their visiting is limited because of the pandemic. It's very hard to make a judgment about the nursing care or anything that I've observed, but I will tell you that she seems to be pleased with the nursing care. The nurses are always prompt and call me to let me know if there have been any changes, if they've changed any medication, or if she's not feeling well. I've been very pleased with that. You can only visit for 30 minutes twice a week, so it's kind of hard to judge what's going on, but she seems to be comfortable and taken care of. We've had very little interaction with the staff, but they do call me and let me know if there are changes in her condition. They're very positive, very accurate, and they're very kind."

"My husband is currently at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. They've done a very good job with him, and they're doing regular, weekly COVID testing, and they've been very diligent in keeping that out of there. Even though they have a lot of cases now, they've actually done a very good job. Everybody's been fine, everybody's been very professional, and there's good communication with everybody up there. He seems satisfied with the food."

"My brother moved into Salem Health & Rehabilitation. When I go to visit everything's nice and clean. The residents and staff are friendly. The meals seemed to be good. My brother seems to like it, but he has a roommate. He has his own TV now. He seems to enjoy it. They have music, art, and bingo. The staff will say they're going to go get you something and then they don't ever come back. They're really busy. But overall, they've generally been nice and polite. I've seen my brother's calendar, and they have something going on all day long at different times."

"I was in rehab at Springtree; other facilities gave me zero chance at recovery from a heart attack and a stroke, but the Springtree team made sure my medical, personal and rehab needs were met. I recovered quickly and regained my ability to speak, walk, and use my hands Evverything that was damaged by the stroke was made whole by the Springtree team. The food was excellent and the care provided by the CNAs and Nurses was excellent! The speech Therapy , physical therapy and occupational therapy were excellent. Today seven months after the heart attack and stroke, I am living a normal life."

"I visited this facility in April 2012 to see my aunt. She was on the South end of the facility. I found everyone there to be very friendly. The receptionist at the door greeted us and knew exactly what room my aunt was in. As we walked down the hall, the area smelled like what could have possibly been dirty diapers or human odor. I'm sure that that's common in facilities such as this, and I only smelled it on my way in and not my way out. My aunt was in good spirits and said everyone there had been real nice to her. She had just finished eating and said the food wasn't too bad considering where she was. We stayed about an hour or so until my cousin came in to visit and as I had my wife and four children with me which was a room full in a semi private room, I politely excused us and we made our way back to the front. All the nurses and aides seemed friendly and played with my children. The facility did appear clean throughout. All in all, if I had to go to a facility of this nature, I believe I would like it to be this one. "

"My daughter worked at Snyders Nursing Home; she was always gushing about the wonderful patients at this facility. She worked closely with all of the administration and nursing staff. She found them friendly and considerate most of the time. It's a smaller facility, so patients are better known and better cared for. I was going to place my mom here when it became necessary, but I lost her before the necessity arose. "

"The staff at Friendship Health North Campus was friendly, answered our questions, and seemed to interact with residents very well. The facility was clean and their accommodations were pretty common as far as what a nursing home would be. The room sizes were a little bit bigger than where my mom was, but you still had two people per room. The only thing I didn't like was if you want to visit a resident, you cannot visit them in the room, I think it's for security reasons. However, they take them on trips to different places and sometimes just for sightseeing locally in the mountains or something like that. They have an activities director that has a pretty good activities calendar and group activities for them. They also have a courtyard. The facility was just well maintained."

"We have known Friendship Manor for years because we've kind of grown up in this community since the 60's. It's a massive facility now all over the valley. The people that we talked to were excellent. They answered all our questions regarding Medicaid, the facility, and services. I can't say anything bad about the staff. The staff interacted with residents. The lady who took us around was very informative. However, the whole facility is basically a hospital floor. Residents are only allowed to have a hospital bed. They cannot bring in any chairs or recliners or anything from their home. They were well taken care of, that was obvious. It was clean, but the actual facility offered nothing as far as homeyness or being welcoming. It literally was a hospital floor that they left exactly the same and put a memory care residence in. The staff who toured us was very accommodating. She worked with our schedule, and she was extremely knowledgeable. She knew what mom would need and what they could offer. She was very helpful with Medicaid, with any of the processes there, and guided us as if we were going to need that to help supplement her being able to pay for this. Honestly, it was $8,400. We were just flabbergasted. It would have been very sad because there was nothing there: no flowers and no garden. They had a 4th-floor balcony as their outdoor area that was completely concrete, nothing inviting or welcoming at all with it. I was just very disappointed with what we saw there. We would never have considered it for her. I felt like the care level was very good though. The staff interacted with the residents. I didn't see anyone sitting alone like what you think of people doing in a nursing home in memory care. You'd kind of think of them being pushed aside. The residents in Friendship were all in various areas where they could be monitored by staff. I don't feel like there was any problem with actual care. I think they were very well taken care of."
