"My mother is already placed at The Harmony Collection at Roanoke - Memory Care. It has three different buildings on the same location. The staff is very responsive and very good. The manager, Margaret, is fantastic. She's a great help. She's been very helpful to us in the transition for my mother going into the facility. There was a transition issue, and my mother was very concerned, upset, and confused. All of the people there were very good at helping her in that transition. She goes to all the meals and she's very happy with them. It's very well kept and always very clean. They have the staff there always cleaning the facility. It's a beautiful facility, and they maintain it very well. It's one of the more expensive facilities in the region, but I think it's worth the money. They have a very good system for physical therapy and occupational therapy that comes into the building. They have a doctor who comes in once a week, and they have nurses as well."

"Brookdale Roanoke was a nice facility. Having a great outside and walking path for the residents was a big plus for that place. We visited it twice, and the staff seemed good. It definitely had the best opportunity for people in locked memory care to get outside, walk, and exercise, and feel that they weren't locked in."

"Carriage Hill Retirement had their own memory care that was separate. The rooms were a nice size, and the showers were in the room. They were able to eat in their memory care unit. I saw their food, and it looked good. The staff who gave the tour was very nice and very professional."

"What I liked about Runk & Pratt is it's a mixed home community. It has patio homes, apartments, assisted living, and memory care. It's not huge, but it's large. It's very clean, and very well maintained on the outside. They welcomed us at the door. Of course, you have to do all of the covid checking things. My sister-in-law talked to Kelly and I worked with Mary Beth when I visited. Both are very helpful and very empathetic. They answered all of our questions and showed us exactly what we needed to see. We were very pleased with what we saw. When you first come into the lobby, they have a pretty good-sized library filled with books. It was set up just like a library, even organized by a Dewey Decimal system. They had it very well organized so that you could find what you wanted. Assisted living has more mobility and the ability to get to those things. The memory care we visited is secure, which we were very pleased with. They have a hairdresser, so they can go and get their hair done. They have a very nice dining room, which was very clean. They have a sensory room, which is unusual. I went in there and I think that it can probably be a little scary at first because it's dark and has some glowing things. I think my mother (once she gets there) will enjoy that. The thing that we like the best about it (other than the initial care), was it what we were looking for. It's very bright. It's open and has high ceilings and wide hallways; it is not confining at all. My mother is used to being outside so being in a smaller, confined environment would be very hard for her. They have a secure large courtyard for them to go out in. It has all kinds of flowers and shrubs for them to enjoy. It's very nice, and we were very pleased. The dining room has lots of windows looking out into a courtyard view with large light-colored tables. It was very welcoming. There was nothing dreary about it. They did have a refrigerator for snacks that residents had access to throughout the day. They had different juice dispensers that they could get to during the day. They really work with them on hydration. All of that's available for them to come and go in there."

"Our Lady of the Valley was very interesting and great. The tour was marvelous, well and beyond the time needed for the staff to spend with me. The staff listened to my concerns over the location where my mom currently is and actually gave me some good advice. I saw lovely rooms that have been recently remodeled. They also recently built and completed the rehab area that looked just wonderful. Aside from that, I was very impressed when they walked me through the dining room. They were preparing their evening meal and it looked appetizing. They also had a lovely salad bar, which I think my mom would love. "

"I chose Richfield Living in Roanoke for my brother because it has a comprehensive care facility and memory care, so that he could get both aspects of what he needs. He would be able to stay there for the length of his life if he needed to because as his condition worsened, they could provide care for him at that stage too. It's brand-new, and he's currently in memory care. He just got there, so we're still feeling things out. They seem to listen to me when I make my wishes known to him. Although I realized that his day-to-day care and needs probably don't match what I think he needs because of the condition that he has. At least they listen to me, and we are getting better medical care than we were previously getting. I like that. I haven't had a chance to get to know too many of the staff, but the ones that I have were courteous and seemed to care for him. We'll see how things go as time goes on. They have complete physical therapy, so they can help him ambulate again. They are also able to take care of his medical needs as far as a catheter goes, where the other place couldn't. My goal is for him to get rid of that catheter, so that we're able to get medical treatment with that goal in mind. If he pulls the catheter out, they could put it back in again. They can get his hair washed. He had a beard, but they shaved that off so I'm not sure why they did that. Except maybe they asked him if he wants them to shave it off, and he said, yes. They said they have a hair salon, which is good. They have the ability for him to go outside in nature rather than just stay inside. They have an outdoor area where he can walk with grass and trees and that kind of thing. "
