Nursing Home Communities in Washington Court House, OH

"We visited this facility to tour a few of the villas, or individual resident units with my grandparents about a year ago. At the time we saw several different configurations, including two and three bedroom units that were beautifully constructed. One of the many benefits of this facility is the grounds, which are professionally maintained. Each resident is allowed to keep a garden as well and is assisted in the maintenance of this outdoor space. My grandparents waited about six months for their preferred villa to become available and moved in recently. They love the atmosphere and amenities. In my opinion, this facility is better than most because of the combination of assisted living and traditional "nursing" care. There is a central building with more traditional end of life (intensive) care that is surrounded by independent homes or villas for those who need less care. The combination is especially important as couples age and one partner needs more care than the other. The more independent partner can stay in their home and be right across the street from the partner in the nursing home. "

"My mom has been a resident here for over 9 weeks now. So far I like what I see. I visit pretty much every other day, sometimes every day, sometimes skipping 2 days in a row. She is well taken care of and they are very kind to her. She has told me often that she doesn't want to leave here; she looks very happy most of the time. Everyone knows her name, and I feel she gets personal care and the nurses take time with her. The kitchen staff are wonderful, as are the ladies who clean the rooms. Most everyone is friendly and seem caring. The facility does not have a nasty odor when you walk into the front door like most rest homes do. If the quality changes I will certainly post a review reflecting that. I'm sure no place is perfect and there are issues everywhere, but saying that I will also say this- you can't please every one, and some people are just nasty and would complain if they found a hundred dollar bill because it was wrinkled. Also not sure that an occasional visit qualifies a person to make a sound judgement call. "

"The facility was really nice. It was well kept and very clean. The staff did a good job getting to call lights most of the time. It seemed like there weren't enough aides as there should have been. The managers didn't seem to care for the residents as much as they should have. Everyone was really nice at the facility. The activities staff seemed to be very busy. They had the activity calendar posted outside the activity room. Each day the residents had the option to attend at least 5 activities. The dietary department had good cooks. However, the food didn't always get to the residents as fast as it should have. The kitchen always had several choices for each meal. There was always multiple different items such as cottage cheese, or mashed potatoes, different soups and sometimes grilled cheeses for substitutes that the residents could get at any day for lunch or dinner. Overall, the facility was a nice place. "

"My stepmom has been in Logan Elm Health Care Center for three days now. She's there for long term. The facility is not as nice or pretty as the other place where she was, but they are updating their building and the wing that they have finished is very, very nice. The rooms are bigger. There are two people in a room, and they're separated by curtains. Two people share the bathroom. My stepmom seems to like the food a lot better. While my dad was in talking with the admissions person, I talked to a couple of people that were in chairs in the hallway and they loved it there. They said the food was great. They have all kinds of activities there. In the summertime, they have excursions outside where they would play with water balloons. They decorate things for Halloween, and they have a lot of arts and crafts there for them to do, like decorating pumpkins. The cafeteria was full and everybody was laughing and eating and getting seconds. The aides were walking around to fill up their drinks and stuff. They have a courtyard, a library, and a beauty salon. They have tables with puzzles. They're upgrading the whole facility. In the hallway where they're upgrading it, they have like really nice big TVs on the walls for people. My stepmom brought her own TV there. She is in one of the rooms where they bring people in and they have them isolated for so many days for like COVID and stuff. They haven't moved her to her regular room yet. We went there the day after she went. They have one nurse and two aides per 20 patients. They have a great ratio there. Their physical therapy department is really good from what I've heard. Most of their staff have been there 20 plus years, so they hardly have turnover at all. The staff is great. They have two different types of mattresses. They have some that are raised on the side a little bit to keep the residents from rolling out of bed and they have others that are completely flat. They'll switch the mattresses out to whatever the resident wants."

"I was a patient here twice this past year. Both of my daughters are nurses so I believe they are not just looking at me as their dad but clinically very involved in my care. They were so impressed along with my surgeon with the wound care I received while at their facility. Doc was honest he didn’t know when I discharged the hospital if more of my foot would be removed and because of them Managing my diabetes and healing my foot that didn’t happen. They have a wound doc that visited me each week and I also seen my surgeon my foot was their top priority. I was very impressed."

"I first went to Westmoreland Place around year ago. My friend had gotten kidney cancer and was no longer able to take care of himself. At the Hospital they suggested Westmoreland Place. He seemed like he was taken care of reasonable well there. I nurses seemed nice and he would always try and make them laugh and they would laugh with him. The Nurses where also friendly to any visitors he had. While they seemed friendly they also seemed a little disconnected. They took take of all his needs and where there whenever he needed them. Westmoreland Place was a little run down when I was there and needed some basic repairs just to make the place look a little better. Paint, new ceiling tiles etc. Since then they have remodeled it and judging from what i have seen when I have drove by, my friend is no longer there, it looks a lot more professional and nicer. "

"Pickaway Manor Care Center is very nice. Their rooms were set up a little better. I have a person who used to be my client that I go and see there now, and her room is set up very pretty. They also have a nice cafeteria. They eat away from the others, so they don’t eat right there with the ones that are in the rest home part of it, and they are set up in little different areas. Because in the rest home you hear so much hollering and moaning and people crying, but you don’t hear that in most of the assisted living you don’t have that."

"My husband was at Signature HealthCARE. It was bad. He was in quarantine for the first two weeks and he was inside his room, so we couldn't even see him. We tried to talk to him on the phone, but since he was paralyzed on one side, he couldn't manage the phone very well. Then they moved him after two weeks into a room with a window, so I can go and look at him through the window, but he is still having trouble with the phone. They had no phone in the room so I had to take his cell phone, and it's also very hard to manage his cell phone with one hand. I wanted to take his clothes home and wash them because he didn't have any clothes when he asked for something to put on. He had clothes in the room because when he left, he took his clothes home with him. They got him out the bed, maybe three times, the whole time he was there. There's no communication. He fell the first night he was there, and they did not let anyone know. He was trying to get out of the bed but he didn't realize he couldn't, and after that they would not let him out of the bed. I gave him one of those grabber things so he could pull himself up whenever, and they took it away from him. One night, he managed to call in the middle of the night, and they took his phone away from him that night. They told him that I told them to take it away from him, which of course I did not because I wanted to hear from him anytime he wanted to call me, it doesn't matter what time at night. So we had no idea what medicines he was on. There was just nothing, no contact with his family either me or his son at all. He was miserable and felt like he was in prison. They had a fellow with him in a double room, who kept his TV on loud all the time. There was also a woman who wandered up down the hall and came into his room. He didn't want women coming into his room. He was very mad. It might have been different if we had been allowed to visit him and help him with things that he needed help, but we were not allowed to because of the COVID. There were a couple of good nurses. He got some therapy. They put him in his chair a couple of times, and the guy said he would be back, but he said he went home. He was stuck in his chair not being able to sit up very well, and finally, two nurses came and managed to wrestle him back in the bed. He was really thankful for that and wrote a nice letter thanking them, thanking God for good nurses. It was not a good experience for any of us. Some of the staff were good; some of them were not. Four people came in one day and surrounded my husband's bed. They got onto him and talked really mean to him because he said something to them, because they took the grabber thing away from him and put it out of his reach. Then a couple of days later, someone came in and apologized and said that should not have happened. He's lying there helpless, he can't do anything for himself, he has to depend on everybody. There's nothing wrong with his mind. His brain is fine; his mind is fine. His left side just doesn't work. The facility seemed alright, but you can't really tell when you're outside looking in. He said the food was bad. He could hardly eat anything when he was there."

"My mother-in-law is in Greene Oaks Health Center. They’ve been great; she’s always clean and happy. They try to get her to mingle with other people and be a little more social and her care is very good. It looks clean; it’s up to date, lots of natural light. "

"My mother needed rehab after having her knee replaced. As would be standard protocol, she received physical and occupational therapy. But, they went the xtra step and provided speech therapy for cognitive retraining. Because the therapist worked on memory skills/problem solving/comprehension of what she hears & reads, she became more safe, more compliant, more mobile more quickly. (She had been in another adequate facility and did not make progress. There was concern that she might not be able to return home. She received physical and occupational therapy but not speech.) My mother's Alzheimers/dementia baseline is mild but any surgery or illness can cause a decline. Because she transferred to a facility with a Team cognitive approach (nursing followed therapist's suggestions so there was good follow through), My mother returned home and at a cognitie level better than prior to surgery. "

"My mom was in Legacy Chillicothe for several months. The people there are sweet, but sometimes the care she needs she doesn't get. They transport her to doctor's appointments. Some staff members just don't seem to care to do their job but overall, they talk to my mother and say they were very sad and concerned when she left. I have tried the food, and as much as my mother said it was horrible, but it's not too bad. They're very good. If she doesn't want that food, "what can I get you?" And so they will get a sandwich or soup or both, something easy that is off the menu. They have church. They have people come in and play music. They have game time. They have paintings. They give them a four-by-six canvas and they're allowed to paint. Legacy needs to update their building and they cost more."

"The first thing we noticed visiting Meadow Grove was this facility did not have a smell of a retirement home, that was evident at other facilities have. This was refreshing. The second thing was there was not folks in wheel chairs aimlessly sitting in hallways sloped over with no one attending to them. The therapist were very engaging and had a very well equipped area for the purpose intended. All the rooms are private. Our 94 year young Mom was here for therapy to get her to back into her home. She spent approx a month here with therapist, aids and nurses attending to her care. The therapist did more than their JOB. What I mean by that is you actually felt they had a personal feeling about the care they were providing for their patients. Always in a positive outlook. The aid staff also demonstrated a personal attentiveness towards the patients they cared for. The nursing staff was attentive to the distribution of prescriptions being administered. We felt we could not be in a better faciiity for her care and being. We were very pleased with her care and therapy."
