Nursing Home Communities in Prestonsburg, KY

"My mother said she wanted us to never put her in a nursing home, ever. We broke that promise and to make it worse, the mother of nine did not get the visiting she so badly needed.The staffing was varied, some people could be so nice and others you would wonder how they kept their jobs working with people.I seen her go through therapy each week. She would smile at me when I got there to visit. She ate better since the food was served three times a day.Our elders were raised to be independent and had to stand alone. Now, we have to reverse the roles and help them in every days tasks and it does feel strange at first. It doesn't get any easier as time passes. "

"The facility is very beautiful and well keep. The residence have plenty of room and activities to keep them happy/busy. Their rooms are also very nice and furnished appropriately. The only reason I don't give it a five star rating is because on occasion the faculty can seem pre-occupied and not as helpful as they should be with the residents. But I have never been to the Mountain Manor and it not be spotless. They do keep everything sparkling clean and the landscaping and grounds are always keep clean and trimmed with very nice bushes/flowers. One big plus I give is they seem to be very into the seasons of the year and always have very great decor to match which I think helps with demeanor. Over all I would say if I had to live at one these kind of facilities this one would be a great choice. "

"Some of the staff at Salyersville Healthcare Center were not up to the standards I think they should be able to meet. They were extremely rough with the residents when bathing or changing them and they did not approach them with a friendly attitude. Not only were they rude but they also seemed to be bothered whenever a resident would request something. However, not all of the staff were so cold, some of them were very friendly and always came in with a smile. The home did offer daily games and activities for residents to participate in and also offered church services on scheduled nights which I was pleased with. They catered to everyones dietary needs and made sure to prepare the food according to their diet plans. The facility was clean and seemed well stocked. Overall it was an okay experience except a few staff members. "

"We were so surprised to find a facility that was so beautifully decorated and clean. Our relative was treated with such kindness and wonderful care. It is like a big family there and they were so good to us."

"My sister Rita is in there for rehab. She has been sick many years, and fell at home broke a vertebrae. After nine days in hospital she was sent there for rehab. I for one would not want to leave my family member in a nursing home long term, unless absolutely necessary. But, she has been there two weeks, they had her walking some with assistance. Then she had a set back had to go back in the hospital again. Her first two weeks she couldn’t been treated any better. Now of course she complains some about the food. lol But, it is like hospital food. So we try and and take her snacks we know she will eat...Looking through the window her room is always clean. As far as the staff the ones I have spoken to have been very helpful. Some of the ladies names I remember is Janet and Crystal. Very helpful. When I call to speak to a nurse , I am always put through to them and they answer all my questions... Dalton H. always answers any questions I have. He goes beyond far more than he has to. I am glad they have a person such as him in that facility..She is back in the nursing home again to finish out her stay. I am sure she will continue to receive good care...Far as activities goes, she wasn’t able to participate so far, so I can’t answer that..."

"The Knott County Health and Rehabilitation Center is located in southeastern Kentucky. I go there often to visit residents in the community. Recently, a dear friend of mine, as well as a brother in our church had to be admitted there because of his progressing Alzheimers Disease. I had noticed the decline when I saw him at church regularly. His family kept him home as long as they could, but due to his rapid decline they had no other choice. Even though he doesn't recognize me, I go see him at least once a week because he is such a wonderful man, friend, and brother in our church. He is about twenty years older than I, but from the first time I met him we became friends. He never failed to joke and try to cheer me up if he knew I was feeling down. As for the nursing home he is in, it is the nicest one in south eastern Kentucky. The staff is friendly, it's kept clean, and even though they seem to be understaffed a bit, they do a fantastic job of making sure all the residents are taken care of. In my opinion, my dear friend has the best place to live in these last stages of his life. "
