"When my grandmother was sick and suffering from dementia my family made the very difficult decision to find a nursing home. She was sent to Flora Garden Center. The facility is average, the rooms and accommodations are not exceptional but it does the trick. I would not send family members or people from out of town there however if you happen to live in the area the accommodations are appropriate and most of residents know one another. It is a small town so there are not a lot of people there which I find to be pretty nice. The place smelled a little of urine, I had never been in a nursing home before so I don't know if this is common. My grandmother stayed there for about a year. There was one nurse who was particularly kind and helped my grandmother out a lot. When my grandmother had moments of clarity she would always say that she wanted to go home. "

"When my looking for long term care insurance my parents decided to visit a few nursing homes near their house in case they would ever need to go to them and since I was my parents power of attorney I went with them. The first nursing home we visited was this Courtyard. I never wanted to ever think of a time that they would not be able to take care of themselves. But at the age of 70 they wanted to plan ahead. We visited the rehab department and saw the way they worked great with all of the residents. The chance of having a stroke increases with age and the rehab department would be an important part of their lives, if needed. Then we sat in on a Christian service they had for the residents every week. My parents both agreed this would be a great facility if you actually had to live in one and not live on your own. "

"We visiting my mother's brother at the Meadowood facility I noticed he was happier than her had ever been. It took him awhile to understand that he could no longer stay at home by himself. His wife had passed away and he had to move into the home. My aunt was the person who took care of him, because he has severe dementia. My cousins were the ones who found this nursing home. But every weekend when my mother and I would visit him the nursing staff would tell us all about his progress. Some weeks he would be doing very well and live in the moment, but many times we would visit him, he would still think he was living at his home. Since he had a private room he had lots of room. The rooms were larger than you would think they would be in a nursing home, and the bathroom was large enough for the wheel chair. He is always happy every time we go to visit him and I know the staff is a major reason for that. "

"My grandfather stayed in Wabash Christian assisted living for about six months, before he had his heart attack and had to move into a full care unit. The unit he stayed in was a very nice one bedroom unit, he was able to cook is own meals in the small kitchen. But we knew if he had any problems he would be able to call for help. The nurses were very sweet to him and called him gramps. He was a big ladies man so he loved that. We really didn't know how my grandfather would take to living there, because he had lived on his own his whole life. But the nurses and cna's made him feel so safe and happy he really grew to love them. I know when he got sick, he really wanted to move back, but sadly he died before he got the chance. "

"My grandfather was a resident at Mt Vernon Countryside Manor. He was very afraid to go into the nursing home but after about a week of being there, he was praising the staff. The nursing home did not have that urine smell that is usually present as soon as you walk in the door. Instead it smelled like cleaning supplies. That was my first pleasant surprise. Another surprise when I turned from the lobby down a hallway. There were no laundry carts, trash cans, nothing in the hallway except an occasional chair. That was very nice. I have been places where there were so many things in the hallway, you couldn't walk a straight line. The room was extremely clean. There were two people in the room and everything was put away and there was even a shelf attached to the wall that flowers and photos could be without taking up lower space. The nursing staff were all very friendly and came right away when the button was pressed. Accompanying my grandfather to the cafeteria was nice and many of the staff spoke to us as we passed. They were not too busy to stop briefly. The food smelled very good and must have been since my grandfather ate everything he was offered and was able to have a second helping of vegetables and desert.All-in-all, I believe my grandfather's stay was as pleasant as one could be. "My mom has been at long-term care at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital. It was a part of the hospital that they just made into a long-term care, but we think the CEO's starting to close, 'cause why would you go increase a rate? She was paying like $5,800 and some, to almost $7,300 a month, and that's a huge amount. It's a private pay, that's what they call it, and they're good. You get a little better care than some of the other nursing homes here, so that's why we put her in there when she first had a stroke during heart surgery. She doesn't even really know names of food or anything, and if you ask her what she has for supper, or dinner, she has no clue what you're talking about. I had some issues with a couple of the CNAs. They were just picking the crap out of her trying to aggravate her. It must've been not too bad, but we've had the same issues over the workers in there. She is mad in any way, her personality changed when she had the stroke. I hate it, plus they said they'd given her her share and they didn't do it then, and she smells. That made me mad too. That's the sad part with this COVID, you have no clue what's going on in these places. It's changed several times who has worked in there. Some of them are great, and then others are not so good. It is hospital food, it is OK. They changed the diet up there, so it wouldn't be as good anymore. It's not fancy up there, it's just like an old hospital, a part of a hospital where they stuck these people in the old rooms. Mom's room is tiny. The rooms are all in different sizes, they're caught up, and some of them they put two people in. Mom doesn't have a shared bathroom, but one did. That's one reason we left her in there too. We didn't want her to have a shared bathroom because she still can go to the bathroom on her own, but her room is awful. It's gone downhill up there. It used to be where you wanted your loved ones because they got a little extra special care there, but not anymore."

"Staff and administrators at Burgin Manor are genuinely caring and show compassion for their residents. My experience with this facility has been very positive, and I know my friend feels the same about his choice of home. Staff strive to empower the individuals that live at the facility and do their best to make there lives as normal as possible. Independence of residents is facilitated by staff and administrators, and they honestly want to provide the best life possible for residents. "
