"This facility has been running for a while. Even though it’s not a five star resort I found the care to my loved one was top notch. Nothing is ever perfect, but when I concerned issues they were heard and staff tried to accommodate them. Rooms are double occupancy and small with a shared bathroom. One cna named Melissa provided top notch care for my family member. She went beyond the call to help him before he left to go home. "

"We chose The Cottages of Swansboro for my sister because of the location, the price, and what was included in the price because it's a flat fee. They don't charge extra if medications are required. Everything is included in the flat rate. It's very nice and very affordable. It's a home setting, so each person has their own room. There are six people in each cottage and everybody has their own dining room and living room within the cottage. Everyone comes to the table and has a meal as a family. Each cottage has one house mother to six residents. They have three or four shifts throughout the day, but they're always assigned to the same cottage. They have a staff that goes through all the cottages to give out medicines. The food is fabulous and homecooked. Each cottage has their own laundry facility. I love all the people there. It feels like family. The director is fabulous. We are happy with it so far. They have an online beauty shop and an activities director, do art, play games like Jeopardy, and have a little bus that takes them to different places. They have therapy dogs and gospel groups that come in."

"My brother is at Pruitthealth-Sea Level. He has been there for eight weeks now. They are reasonably responsive to phone calls and such. They have a social worker, a financial person, and an activities director, which are the three people I interacted with. My brother worked with nursing techs and a physical therapist for a little while. They are building and moving to a new facility, so the facility is quite old, but I didn't feel like it was unsafe or anything like that. Our biggest struggle was that my brother didn't always get daily transfers to the wheelchair, which did not help his progression in getting better. They were slow to start physical therapy and somewhat inconsistent in getting his physical therapy. When the insurance denied coverage for skilled nursing or regular kind of activities of daily living care, they also discontinued physical therapy, which doesn't fall into that category, so I'm not sure why they did that. And that was the one thing he needed. That's my biggest distress with them. I don't think they did everything they could to advocate for him to continue to get physical therapy. They never submitted the physical therapy claims for review or anything like that with his insurance company separately from the overall facility charges. They're not particularly knowledgeable in the way that they could work with insurance companies. I think they're used to just taking people that ultimately end up on Medicaid and just taking whatever Medicaid pays. So for me, that was a little bit of a struggle. My brother was in a private room initially, I think because maybe the insurance covered it. Then shortly after insurance quit covering him, even though he's paying, they moved him to a semi-private room. They never asked us if we had a preference or gave us any options for different charges, they just moved him and discontinued his physical therapy without conversations about this thing. "

"My mother is in Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay. It is absolutely beautiful and the layout is perfect. The staff has been wonderful, helpful and very caring. Their dining area is separate from the main. There's a big one for the ones who just need therapy or a place to live and a smaller one for my mother. The food is delicious and accommodation is wonderful. They go to church and they had happy hour last Friday evening, but there's no alcoholic beverage. They had music and she got up and danced. They also have bingo."

"The people at Croatan Village were really nice and very caring. The facility was about average, but I think it's the people that made it. They were very interested in their clients' well-being. They had all sorts of activities lined up. They're great to talk to. The staff member during the tour was very outgoing, very knowledgeable, a real people person, and seemed to know everybody that walked by in the hallway and what was going on in their lives. We went and talked to one of the residents that was in the assisted living, and she's a very nice lady, showed us around, and toured her room. We went and looked at the activity center and we looked out on the courtyard with the garden where they're growing vegetables and flowers for their group. I would definitely recommend it. The people were really caring there. The lady that runs it has been doing that for 32 years, and she's very knowledgeable."

"The Viridian was brand new, very posh, very modern, clean, with high ceilings, and very welcoming at the same time. They had a grand piano in the foyer, glass everywhere, that kind of place. Everybody I met was wonderful. The tour was excellent. They were very knowledgeable. They have a doctor on staff, which is nice for an assisted living place. They had a wonderful rec room. They had a media room where they had a gigantic TV for people to watch movies. They had the standard barber. The whole place was very slick. There's no carpet because the carpet is a trip hazard. It's just flat tile throughout. The rooms were quite large. They were very well set out. We did not eat lunch there, but we saw menus and the food looked really good based on the menu alone. There's a separate dining room for company, if you want to have a big Thanksgiving dinner, and you arrange it. There's a huge dining room table where your whole family can come. They do trips. They have an activities director, so something is going on all the time, all day, games and that sort of thing."
