I found Fort Bayard Medical Center for my mother. It is in my hometown and it is very small. I knew it was here all along but the waiting list was quite long. However, when I talked to them that she was coming from a home and not transferring from another facility, they had an opening for her and that's how I got her in. They have double rooms there. She is in an Alzheimer's area. The staff is excellent, so my mother is safe and okay there and she transitioned well from home to the facility. The staff is all licensed one way or another. There is a psychiatrist on staff and a social worker for the wing. There's physical therapy. They also play cards, bingo, and they also take them shopping and sightseeing. Regarding food, they have done everything they can to prepare a meal that my mother will eat because she has gotten to be a picky eater. They monitor to make sure that she eats enough and they give her modified soft diet. It is not pureed but it is just finely chopped so that she can chew and eat it.
