My husband suffered a stroke and was a resident of St. Johns for 3 months while learning how to care for himself. He had daily therapy in order to learn how to walk and how to live with the use of only one hand. The nursing assistants were kind, patient and helped my husband laugh while helping him. The occupational therapist was helpful in providing aids for my husband to use in order to dress himself and manage with daily tasks. She did however have one shortcoming- she told him what he could not do again. You do not ever tell anyone that they can no longer do anything. A good therapist helps the patient discover their own limitations and helps expand what they can do. The physical therapist was great in helping my husband learn to walk and to gain his sense of balance. This facility is well kept with caring personnal. The food served was well balanced and nutritious. The lack of air conditioning meant for some uncomfortable days but a fan in his room helped. They were kind enough to provide a cot for me so that I could stay with my husband when it was possible. We chose this nursing home over other ones in the area due to their positive reputation in the area and we weren't disappointed. My husband is now home and is doing well, a good example of what good therapy and a loving helpful atmosphere can do.
