"My wife and I moved to the Colonnades ten months ago, after considering five other Charlottesville-area retirement facilities. The residents and staff quickly made us feel part of the community. The staff is very helpful and available, even with some tech support with the internet and cell phones. We especially appreciate the wide range of activities--there seems to be an activity for every interest--and the varied exercise and fitness opportunities. There is a UVA-staffed health center and a good physical/occupational therapy program. The food is generally good, and it's improving. Independent living residential options include cottages with garages and patios and apartments with patios or balconies. Pets are welcome."

"I went to RoseWood Village at Greenbrier and had a very nice tour. I saw the assisted living and the staff. The executive director happened to be my tour guide and was was extremely pleasant (both to me and to the residents that I saw). They seemed very dedicated to their job of caring for older people and making their experience pleasant. The executive director was very concerned about having a feeling of a family-type situation there, and they worked very hard to create that for the residents. I saw the dining room and their menu. It was spacious and well-lit. The facility itself was very clean and very organized by their principles. It was just a little overly decorated to suit me, but they believe that the residents enjoy that."

"I went to Commonwealth Senior Living at Charlottesville. I would give it our second choice because of the location. They have more room choices, you could get one room, where everything is in one room, or you could get a different one that had a separate bedroom, for a few more dollars. It felt a little more like a facility than the other place. The staff was very, very knowledgeable, very nice, very helpful. They have followed up with me since I went. All kinds of activities, whether it's a movie night or whether it's bingo, and they did the day trips. They had a van that would take them to visit a park, or a museum, or whatever they wanted to do. It was a good activity."

"Acadia Care is nice and clean, and they have twenty-four-hour service. I think that would be good for my husband so they can help him with his medications. The staff was really nice. She showed me around the place, and it seemed like they take pride in the work that they do. The staff was very eager to help, she explained everything to me in detail, and she was more than looking forward to me choosing this place for him to stay. The upkeep is really good, it seems like they have everything in order, and everything looks nice. It's right off the interstate, and it is in between Charlottesville and Waynesboro, so it's a good location for me."

"My mother resided in one part of Linden House Assisted Living and Memory Care at Branchlands before. We thought her care would be incredible there, which it was. She stayed there for about a month. It is excellent. It is terrific. It is very nice, so are the people that are there .The staff is outstanding. They deliver everything they promised, and we think the world of them for taking care of my mother. We like the newness, for one thing. Also the staff is always accessible and available whenever you needed help. They get things to you right away. The facility itself has a wonderful restaurant or dining room in it, and the food is very good. We could not find any faults with it at all. It is a complete restaurant. They serve three meals a day, seven days a week. My mother had a specialized menu because of her condition. They have different levels of dining depending on your condition. They got plenty of activities. They have a calendar, and there's something going on every day like music and games. They have all kinds of things. The price is more than it ought to be, but it may be the best deal in town. It is between $5,000-7,000 a month, compared to her previous facility which was $9,000. It is probably the best choice to put a person in assisted living in this city."

"Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge is a relaxed yet beautiful facility, tastefully decorated but with physical aids for aging adults. It has clear, sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, and stunning sunsets to be viewed from it's upper level apartments. Its meeting rooms on the first floor are top notch with all the latest technology to make it easy for residents and visitors to put on excellent presentations. Some ground floor apartments have doors leading out to their own gardens, and staff is available to help those interested in exotic plants to plant and care for them as needed. There are definitely four seasons in Charlottesville, but most year they are mild. Spring and fall are especially beautiful. Westminster Canterbury is not too far away from the University of Virginia and its Miller Center, where top leaders and authors speak to topics that affect democracy, government and the world. Many of the residents are active in sports, and take advantage of lifelong learning programs offered through the university. "

"We liked The Blake at Charlottesville for my mother. It was open. I like the openness, high ceilings, and things like that, which gave a bigger feel to things that my mom, I think, would have liked. I like the people, they were nice and helpful, but just in general the appearance of the facility itself gave -- and almost felt resort-like. The staff was very accommodating, he made you feel very comfortable, his knowledge seemed to be good, and he pretty much answered all of our questions. He's very helpful and knowledgeable and just an easy person to talk to, so it was a very comfortable visit. The room we looked at if she was moving there tomorrow, it was more than one room, which I like. It gave us a situation where you could have a bedroom and a kitchenette area, and then a separate sitting area. It was not huge, obviously, but it was adequate and gave more of a home feel because you had a separation of your bed space and your living space."

"We're working on moving our mom here because it checks all the boxes. I thought that the staff there were very friendly and helpful. The individual apartment's layout was fine and the size was adequate. They had a pianist and singer, and by the time my tour was over, about 20 residents were watching them. It looked like they were enjoying themselves and it was good to see that. They showed me the dining area, and one of the things we particularly liked was that they separate the assisted care dining room from the regular dining room. My mother will eat foods she's not supposed to eat because she's diabetic, and they'll make sure that that doesn't happen by separating the diners."

"Our Mother has lived at English Meadows since Sept. 2021. She shares over and over how she loves her room and the beautiful view of the mountains. We noted the staff that come in to serve her relate like old friends and family making her feel right at home. Mom has significant dementia but has always felt welcomed and supported. She can't remember what she had for lunch by mid-afternoon, but she remembers the food is good. She enjoys the fellowship of the dining room and is assisted by staff to join. When conditions do not support being in the dining room they serve her a meal in her favorite easy chair in her room in front of the TV. If you were to drop in and visit, she would welcome you in like an old friend even though she can't remember you or may never have met you. That in part is due to the feeling of safety and comfort English Meadows staff provide. We would recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a place for their loved one!"

"My dad has been in The Harbor at Renaissance for about a month now. The staff is very professional. They're very responsive to his needs, they're very organized as far as his medications go, and they really keep a close tab on his needs, so I really appreciate that. The place is awesome. The first time we went in just for the intake, it was clean. They're constantly keeping up the place so that it's clean and disinfected. When we visit him, we don't go in. We visit him by the window, and that's how we see him, but that's OK; we have to respect that."

"When I was at The Retreat at Fishersville, I asked what if our money runs out and what if our long-term care insurance runs out. Do they accept Medicaid? They do not. The person who did the tour was excellent, answered all kinds of questions, and was very knowledgeable. I appreciated the tour. They were very nice. I would be very comfortable there. The rooms were sufficient for the stage that I would be in if I were going there. All of the rooms I visited had kitchenettes. They had places where you could go outside and it was an attractive place. They said I could make an appointment to come back for a meal. There were facilities where they had activities. They had a place where they could go to see movies. They had a little commissary where they could go to get snacks and just have coffee together. They had an exercise room, and they go on field trips."

"I toured Birch Ridge. I like that it's small. I like the grounds. The man couldn't have been nicer to answer my questions. I've had a good experience. The facility was very clean. It probably needs to be modernized and updated. It has the feel of being old, but it was clean. The rooms are nice, but their common area, the furniture, it's old."
