Catholic Charities was a very nice place. The room seemed like a good size, but they told me that for six to nine months, they won’t have an opening. Everything seemed to be OK. The room was a one-bedroom with a kitchen and living space.

This is not an assistant living apartment complex and the property manager never tires of reminding the residents of that fact. When I moved in 2 1/2 years ago, I didn’t notice any problems with mice or bugs. In the last 6 mns I have seen rodents and roaches in the halls as well as some apartments. They have not sprayed for roaches in the last 2 1/2 years. There are a few residents that throw birdseed bread, fruit, and vegs on the grass. This makes the mouse problem worse. There are residents with dogs who never pick up after their animal. This makes the rodent problem worse. Management will give you a violation notice for something as Ludacris as wearing a house dress in the hall, but does nothing to stop the residence from throwing food out on the lawn. Although there are dog stations with bags to pick up after the animals management does not enforce this. The recycling cans disappear for days once full. Management’s solution was to tell the residents that they could put everything on the floor. A floor full of recycling is a nice place for a mouse to borrow. It is also a nice place to eat leftovers residents haven’t cleaned out of the recycling items. Complaints to the main office never get answered and only get worse. Children are also allowed to run the halls day and night. Don’t mind the children, but Horses galloping over my head is not conducive to sleeping. Maintenance has keys to apartments and comes and goes at his pleasure. I complained once and he yelled at me so I yelled back. I got a violation notice for not being respectful. I have also received violation notices for not being respectful to the property manager, but nothing is said about property manager not respecting me or my privacy. Arundel Woods looks nice at a distance, but get too close and it’s a different picture.

Community Rooms are nice although way to cold in the summer and way to hot in winter (have seen the thermostat set as high as 82 and as low as 65). Residents are told they cannot open the windows and sometimes the windows are screwed shut (a dangerous practice). Management gives a private club in the building special privileges. They can be a very mean bunch and with management on their side they are even more difficult. Complaints about management to main office are either not acknowledged/ ignored?/never responded too. Property Manager does not keep confidential matters to herself and has sent violation notice for disagreeing with her. Major parking problems. Told private lot they can do what they want. Asked for lot rules but never given. Refuses to give resident files to residents when asked (against HUD regulations) Until these problems are resolved I’d stay away.

Rooms seem nice, although mold problem in bathroom wall. Maintenace is good. Nice Library's on each floor, Multipurpose room (MR) large, computer room and laundry room (2 dryers have not worked since September that only leaves 2 dryers for 70 families). Small room off MR w/piano, TV used by sunshine team to show movies on 3rd floor (Sunshine team is not an association. it's some residents that make money by selling raffles and Bingo - they give to charities and have things like crab feast, Christmas brunch, soup and half sandwich etc.). Accountability? Rules? Elected officials don't think so. When asked about joining I was told nothing to join they don't have set times to meet. They Just call each other and get together. Interactions with staff -Main office staff tries to be caring and helpful. Service Coordinator has had many complaints made to Catholic Charities (written and verbal). Complaints seem to go by the wayside. Until the Service coordinator problem is resolved I recommend steering clear of Arundel Woods.

Catholic Charities is fantastic. My mother lived there, but I can't get my brother in because it's completely far out. That place couldn't have been any better. It was over the top. Everybody there was fantastic. They had different choices of what they could eat. The families could bring things for them to eat. They had parties for them, and that was nice.

Since I have been going there to visit my friend, I have noticed that the staff are very sweet and accomadating. My friend enjoys the Catholic atomosphere this home provided. Also, he enjoys the beautiful landscaping around the facility. The apartment my friend lives in is nicer than any apartment that I have ever lived in. It is incredibly roomy. They have their own living room and kitchen areas. Overall I feel at peace knowing my friend is enjoying his stay here. I really like to go and visit him and enjoy seeing the close family-like feel this home provides their patients. When I get older, I honestly would not mind staying here myself. I usually go to visit my friend about once a week, and the staff is always very kind and accepting of visitors. I believe this also makes the patient's stay more enjoyable knowing that their family and friends are always welcome.
