We visited Village Healthcare At the Glen for my grandmother. I thought it was very nice. Most of them were very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious. It looked very well-maintained. They had all of the amenities that they said there was going to be. Their room had a TV and a bathroom.

My mother-in-law is in Village Health Care at The Glen. It's very neat and clean, and it's a very nice building. We have someone who goes in and checks on her daily or every other day because I don't think she would get the care she needs if we did not do that. I'm not saying it's a bad place. It's just to be sure that she's okay and has everything she needs. For activities, I know they have exercise and they get together and play games. I think they do well with it. We chose them because they had an opening and they were willing to work with us to get my mother-in-law settled. I also had a couple of people tell me that they have relatives there and they were well cared for so that helped. I don't know if they need more staff or they just need some people who actually care. I know that's got to be a difficult job to work at a place like that, but they just don't seem to be very concerned about the people there. I don't want to say they don't care about them, but they're very indifferent. I found that out when I was trying to move a bunch of stuff in, and nobody even offered to help hold the door for me. They just watched me struggle. The people in the office are fine, they're wonderful, but the people working on the floor aren't. I don't know if they have too much to do but they're just unconcerned. My mother-in-law has lost her glasses, her teeth, and her phone. I know that's part of it and they can't keep up with everybody's stuff, but it's disheartening that they don't even seem to try like they don't even care anymore. Probably it's just because they know it's just going to happen over and over.

I just have to warn anyone that might be considering putting a loved one in this facility. I decided on Village Health Care at the Glen despite it being one of the most costly care facilities in Shreveport because I thought they would provide the best care. My uncle was neglected, they would go for days without giving him a bath. There were a few staff members that were better than others. I found some members of the administrative staff to be stiff and uncaring. The last straw with these guys, I had been paying them out of my own pocket for his care, which was set up for direct withdrawal. My uncle died on March 9, 2019. A week later they did an automatic withdrawal for the entire month. When I brought it to their attention they said, oh we'll credit that back, but not until the next billing cycle. So I waited a month only to have them send a check to the "estate" of my uncle. I told them, my uncle wasn't paying for this, I was - the check needs to be made out to me. They refused, claimed there was a law. I asked my attorney, he said there wasn't and we could fight it but the legal fees would outweigh the check amount. These guys are dirty, beware.

The Glen Retirement System consists of 3 different facilities. Each one is run independently of the other. I have visited with each of the facilities and have found all of the staff to be as personable and caring as the other. The security guards are especially personable, knowledgeable and caring. They are all the most wonderful group of people. I am excited to have my elderly parent be a part of the facility.
