All staff are required to complete training courses with the Alzheimer's Association at the start of employment and quarterly. Each staff member must provide the training certificated provided by the agency. Staff in-services are provided by licensed facilitators on Alzheimer's and Dementia care.

Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Our Home Senior Care. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Our home is designed for elders of 55 and up age. Since we our a small home plus assisted living and memory care home, our residents enjoy the privacy and more intimate environment that allows for customized and personal daily activities. Our residents enjoy sitting on the private patio, using the walking trail, our daily activities based on their preferences and wants. Some of those activities include the puzzle area, Bingo, gardening, the movie night in the movie theatre and baking.

What programs or activities does Our Home Senior Care offer to enrich residents' well-being?

We offer a wide variety of social, cognitive and motor skill activities as well as lots of encouraging physical and mental health stimulating activities. Those can include chair yoga, paint therapy, board and memory games, trivia, gardening, baking, music and aromatherapy, and educational and current event social table talk.

Our Home Senior Care is located in a residential neighborhood, that happens to not be close to any highly trafficked areas, however we encourage our residents to enjoy the indoor and outdoor amenities that Our Home Senior Care provides such as the private patio, gazebo, walking trail, gardening area and other home amenities.

What transportation services does Our Home Senior Care offer to assisted living residents?

In house transportation is not provided at this time. We do offer transportation assistance and arrangement for the resident with a 3rd party servicer.

What makes the chef or dining program at Our Home Senior Care exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

Since we are so much smaller and private, we are able to personalize and customize our residents needs and wants. Our Chefs prepare all meals and snacks based on the residents preference and suggestions. We encourage all of our residents to continue to enjoy eating the foods that bring them comfort. We also can accommodate special diets and restrictions.

What safety features or security measures does Our Home Senior Care offer to assisted living residents?

Our Home is a locked, and secured home. We also provide audio and visual security system monitoring in all common areas and all exterior areas of the home. We have a door control panel alert system and we also provide emergency alert necklaces for all residents. Our home is a 1 level home with no stairs anywhere. We provide 24 hour awake nursing care by licensed professionals.

How does Our Home Senior Care keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?

We strive to make the families a part of every step and process involved with their loved ones in our home. We encourage families to attend the home as much as possible with our convenient visiting hours, and also attend all of our events and special moments with their loved ones. We require families members to be a part of the care planning process and every time their is an unusual occurrence.

What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at Our Home Senior Care during daytime and nighttime hours?

We offer a 1 or 2 to 6 caregiver to resident ratio. With a home maximum occupancy of 12 we believe that this will provide the direct personal supervision and quality time and care each resident needs and deserves to live a comfortable life.

If Our Home Senior Care accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

Our Home currently does not accept pets of any kind at this time.

What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?

All of our staff is trained at the start of employment, quarterly and annually on many topics related to the success of providing quality care. Some of those trainings include Alzheimer's and Dementia , Resident Rights, Infection Control, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation, Workplace Safety and Conduct, Emergency Preparedness and Disaster and required continuing education courses relevant to the license of each employee.

How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?

During the day 4-6 staff members between the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm and 1-3 staff members between 5:00pm-7:00am

What safety features or security measures does Our Home Senior Care provide to protect residents who wander?

We are a gated home, locked and secured, security camera system with audio and visual, door alarms, and staff required monitoring on residents who are elopement or wandering risks.

What programs or activities does Our Home Senior Care offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?

We offer daily activities that promote healthy living and engagement. We take recommendations and preferences from the resident and their families of activities they enjoyed or still enjoy doing and incorporate those into our activities program. We offer social, cognitive and motor skill development activities such as trivia games, board games, memory games, gardening, music therapy, chair yoga, daily exercise, religious activities, educational games and family table talk of topics they want to discuss.

Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?

Only the RN, LPN and Operator are licensed to conduct assessments. Assessment are completed before admission, annually or if there is a significant change in the residents care. The families and the residents are involved in this process.

What techniques does Our Home Senior Care use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?

We try to make familiar meals, keep conversation to a minimal during dinner if possible, place utensils in familiar places, make eye contact and eat with the residents, verbal cues with food praises, keep meals easily eatable.

How does Our Home Senior Care keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?

We keep a very close relationship with our residents and families keeping them involved in as many updates as possible. We center all our residents care with approval from the resident and families. We send out cards, and make telephone calls and encourage visits to the home anytime.

Our Home is located in the north western part of Johnson County in the City of Shawnee. We are remotely in a all residential quiet neighborhood. We are not too far from the 2 major highway systems of Kansas City, and we are just minutes from shopping areas, groceries areas and other more highly trafficked areas if needed.

Is Our Home Senior Care affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?

We recommend residents choose their hospital and Physician of their choice. We do work close with other skilled nursing and long term care facilities, assisted livings, home health's, hospice and social workers.
