"I moved into Atria Hillcrest. I like that I can go down for the meals and not have to prepare them myself, although I'm not used to this kind of food and it's not always to my liking. The activities are really good. I do go out and I take my little dog out 3 times a day. The staff here is very good. They have a beauty salon on site and they have Farmer's Market coming in often enough. They have some good bands that come to play on the patio, which is very nice."

"I toured Laurel Heights. It was very modern, clean, and very nice, but it's just too far. The size of the rooms was medium and could have been larger. I like the balcony in the independent living apartment. The kitchen was a full kitchen. They had a washer and dryer. The living room and the bedroom were medium-sized, but it's OK. It was like an apartment. They had a library, a dining room, and an exercise room. The coordinator who gave us the tour was very informative. They had a theater, too."

"The best part about Simi Hills was that it was clean, it smelled good, and it was well organized. I liked the grounds. The thing I liked the least was it doesn't have a jacuzzi. The staff was very friendly and knew what they were doing and showed me everything. I'm going back for lunch there. They have everything laid out beautifully. They even have like a little Starbucks pastry coffee thing that's open all the time, so I thought that was amusing. It's very clean. I used their public restroom and it was immaculate."

"We have chosen Granvida Senior Living and Memory Care. We're moving my loved one there tomorrow. It's a very nice place with a very homey feeling. It's brand new, so it is very nice and clean. What really impressed me was the people. They seemed to be so friendly and wanting to help make the residents feel like a family. They have rooms from studios to full one-bedrooms. As far as amenities, they have a lot of really neat stuff, like a library, a little rec room, and art room. They have a really nice outside area. I have seen activities going on."

"I wouldn’t recommend Sycamore. The building was nice, and it had a lot of amenities, but the rooms looked very small. It’s very hotel like. As I was walking down the hall, the smell from the different apartments was terrible. It would be suitable for a single person. The staff was absolutely fabulous. "

"It was a great help to have the lists provided by A Place For Mom, Caring.com and the sympathetic and capable staff. I was able to visit the places within close proximity and call the locations that were further out. I'm on my own in a quieter town closer to the ocean. It is much cooler than Woodland Hills where my son lives. This is a Senior Accommodation place, and I have a 2 bedroom unit with a little balcony all to myself. I miss my late husband at every moment, in everything I do. How sad he was unable to get this peace & comfort whenever we were in California. But he is in no more pain. I'm glad only of that. Hope people who have need of guidance and assistance in such living situations can get the very capable help I got from agencies such as these with the caring personnel I had the good fortune to survive this time of personal tragedy. "

"Mira Vista has clean apartments, one-bedroom and two-bedroom, upstairs and downstairs. They have a swimming pool, a rec room, a pool table, two Jacuzzis, and a very nice landscape. It was very well put together, and it's within my budget. You are only allowed to make up to a certain amount of money. You can't make over, say, $50,000 to live there; you have to qualify within a certain price range. The staff accommodated me very well. They're very receptive. So far, the only person I have interacted with was very, very polite and very helpful."

"What I like best about Santa Paulan Senior Apartments was probably the price and that it's in my hometown. It's got a pool. It's a big enough area and it's got enough parking. The staff who gave the tour was friendly. We just didn't like the whole application process that we went through, but she was friendly. They have their laundry on every floor. They have a little patio area. The apartment was big enough for what we needed. There's a kitchen and it's a complete apartment."

"The facility was extremely spacious. There were very large roads scaling the hillside in the beautiful Wildwood area of Thousand Oaks. We visited both the assisted living facility (Named separately as "Oak View") and the independent living facility (Named "University Village"). The staff was extremely friendly and helpful in the various questions we asked. We were able to sample one of the meals in the dining room and the food was great. The dining hall is very large with a multitude servers taking care of the residents. The area surrounding the living facility was beautiful and the community seemed to enjoy traveling about with golf carts. One thing that I was impressed by was the safety features in the facility. Each resident is given a wrist band or a necklace where in the case of any emergency the facility's staff can find the exact location of the resident and reach them in minutes. "

"The Gables of Ojai is a very, very nice community. It's beautiful. The staff is lovely. The rooms are nice, but the community is on the smaller size and that's why we did not go there. Nevertheless, it's almost like a house. They probably have maybe 20 rooms at the most. But it's very intimate, and it feels very, warm. It feels like a house. The woman who heads up the whole community is very proactive and very caring. The food was great. We had lunch. We didn't have options. Maybe they have options once you're a resident, but the food we were given was a good amount and very, very tasty."
