My mom was in Sunset Home 6.5 months. I did not think she would ever be coming home. Sunset did a wonderful job in her rehab and caring for her, that she was well enough to come home. The staff on 2 Riverview is outstanding. Rachel at the front desk is wonderful and very caring. My moms room was always clean. They never hesitated to call me if there was any type of problem. I was very happy with the care my mom received.

Sunset Home was very pleasant. The woman who gave me the tour was very nice. She showed me different-sized rooms and introduced me to a couple of residents. She was very helpful, polite, and very pleasant. The apartments were a nice size and they have big windows, so they were nice and bright. So, it just looked beautiful. The dining area was very nice. They have a big table for everybody. They don't have very many people there though. There were some ladies playing bridge while we were touring the place and then they have a nice patio that you could go out on. They had chairs out there that you could sit at in the summer.

For 4 years my mother was at this home, mom had problems with falling, on 2/11/20 she fell out of bed, no rails, no supervision, she later died from this fall. After informing the home we would be in to collect her belongings the day after her funeral. I was shocked as was my family when we found her belongings removed from her room and thrown on a bed in a room that had not been used or cleaned in 9 months so they could put a new resident in her room, this place is just all about the dollar, no respect now that she's gone.

Residents are dollar signs. There is little empathy, especially in The Haven. Immobile residents are parked in recliners or at a dining room table and left for most of the day. The recliners are often urine soaked and many hang slumped over the side of their chair for hours. Those that are mobile are told to sit with little activity provided, unless you count endlessly folding towels. Staff is constantly changing, especially the Unit Coordinator. Clothes are lost and never found, incident reports aren't completed and families aren't notified of care plan meetings. Superiors have no interest in getting involved to correct issues. Admissions and Social Services have no compassion or professional passion for caring for residents or their families. They have no empathy for families new to caring for loved ones and offer no referrals for assistance or support. It's a numbers game. A few employees are dedicated and nurturing but the majority treat resident care as a burden. I highly suggest doing your research and tour this facility without notice to truly see the day-to-day lack of care.

I rated a 1 because I couldn't rate a zero. I cannot comment about any area other than The Haven, and it is anything but a haven. The staff lacks empathy for the residents or their families and there seems to be a shortage of patience as well. Residents that are immobile are left with little interaction and residents that are mobile are considered a nuisance and are directed to sit around.. Although a few staff members are caring and nurturing, most have no regard for residents comfort or state-of-mind.

I've visited patients from time to time at Sunset Home. The facility was always clean in at least the common areas. The room of the person I visited was clean. The staff is very helpful. They point you to the right direction on where you have to go on those times when they're renovating the building and moving people around.

My Grandmother was recently a customer here. I say customer because thats how I view the relationship with healthcare providers. The Medicare floor was excellent and well staffed. The nurses and aides were very concerned, looked me in the eye, answered my questions and never made me feel like we were bothering them with our many questions. When Grandmother was moved to a different floor, the atmosphere changed. They were clearly understaffed and overwhelmed...and even admitted it to me. We asked a nurse, who was at her station for some help, and she told us to go back to the room and push the button, that someone would come to help us. After I shared this action with management, the same nurse raced over to me later when I came for a visit and told me that couldn't have been her, I must have her mixed up with someone else. I think a customer service program would be a good for this facility, getting everyone trained on how to deal with customers. Empathy for the families who are new to eldercare, helping us understand what's happening and why. I would recommend this facility, but believe they can do better. Budgets are tight and they are likely doing the best they can, however.
