Residents at Melody Living have varying degrees of interests and abilities. By learning about each resident, Melody Living can customize their experiences to those interests and abilities. Resident age needs to be 55+. The concern is not someone's age, it's if we can help that person physically, emotionally, psychologically, and with their overall social well-being. Residents will have varying interests that may include Yoga and chair yoga, Meditation, Gardening, Painting classes, Educational lectures, Book clubs, Computer classes, Classic car shows, Art shows, Happy hours, Trivia, Sudoku, Crossword puzzles, Chess, Checkers, Concerts, Local museums, Sporting events, Plays or musicals, Movies, etc

Our dining staff will speak with each resident and/or family member in order to get a feel for likes and dislikes as well as dietary restrictions and requirements. Dining room menus will include daily rotations of fresh fish, beef, pork and poultry along with creative and delicious salads and side dishes that could be recognizable or unique. We’ll have also have staple items that will be available each and every day. Whether residents want to pop-in to our mod-style bistro for a quick bite and a coffee with friends or get dressed up for dinner in one of our onsite restaurants, our passionate culinary team is here to provide the best service possible.

Activities will be tailored to each resident and their past and current interests. Some of those activities may be coloring, painting, arts & crafts, listening to music, playing rhythm instruments, singing songs, Hula dancing or other simple dancing routines to music, wash & peel vegetables, shell peas, break beans, make popcorn, make a grocery list or meal plan, planting seeds & bulbs pulling weeds, raking leaves, fold towels, sort socks, sweep, set table, look through photo albums, create a scrapbook, look at old greeting cards and letters, take short walks, simple exercises, bingo Object trivia, crossword puzzles, word searches, puzzles, read aloud from short story collections, poems, look through magazines and books with pictures, and visit with family & friends.

Melody Living's Registered Nurse and Memory Support Director assess people and put together a daily care/activity plan to best suit each resident. There is ongoing assessment everyday by care staff. Changes will be communicated to family.
What techniques does Melody Living Lake in the Hills use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Routine- eat at the same time every day as much as possible. Hydration- offer small glasses of water frequently throughout the day to promote adequate hydration. Calm environment- avoid distractions, such as a television. Remove unnecessary clutter from the table. Dishes and utensils- choose dishes that are easiest to use: white dishes instead of patterned dishes, bowls instead of plates, spoons instead of forks. Use bendable straws or lidded cups. Food servings- cut food into bite-sized pieces before serving or make finger foods. Serve one type of food at a time. Food choices- favorite and familiar foods, while ensuring generous servings of vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Encouragement and modeling- help with the basic mechanics of eating by demonstrating and gently reminding. Gently hold the person's hand to help with using a utensil.
