Assisted Living Communities in Ellwood City, PA

"I did a tour of Grace Manor at North Park. One of the issues is I live out of state, so my brother is the one who would be close, so it's close for him to visit. It's also close to Passavant Hospital, which is pretty good. I liked it because it's a small facility. It's not as new as some of the other ones, but the prices are pretty reasonable. They have a pretty good memory care unit and it's clean. They're painting the walls and redoing carpets. They're trying to keep it updated. So that's sort of nice. Sharon, she's the assistant executive director, she was the one I talked to. She did a great job on the tour, and she showed me around the whole place. It was early in the morning, 10 o'clock, so we looked around. It was pretty nice. She did a good job explaining everything. I have a spreadsheet of different things that I have questions on, so she answered all my questions. The prices are reasonable, and they explain a few things that I didn't think about. It's good that they tend to want to keep their people out of the rooms and doing activities, which is good for them, especially. It's clean, they got new carpets, and they're painting the wall. In the memory care unit, they try to keep the people active and engaged, so it keeps them alert. So, they get into a lot of activities, which is good. I noticed some of the nurses were trying to make people that were not using their walkers, they make sure they get to use their walkers and stuff, to remind them. So that's good, they're taking care of the people. I have their brochure; I know the cost and I have room layouts. They have a beauty salon, weekly housekeeping, and meals with friends. They assist in hygiene, have physical therapy, and have 24 hour trained support nurses and health physicians on call. They also have trips sometimes for people, without the patients that have memory issues. The people that are not as well as poorly off, may have trips and stuff. "

"My mother is currently staying at Magnolia Place of Saxonburg. They called first and were able to match the price of the other facility, so she moved there. We have to call and schedule visits; they are very COVID conscious. But as long as I'm schedule ahead of time, I've always been able to visit when I wanted; I just can't go down to her room. We meet in a little room, and usually I take her out walking. Their limit is about a half hour for each visit. It's very clean, up to date, and modern. We're really impressed with it. They have a recreation director. I met her and she seemed really nice. I am not sure about activities because I can't go down into the unit, but I know they do things with them. They say they play games, do crafts, and listen to music. When I did the tour they gave me the price guide, and when I priced out what their base rate was, plus what mom's level of care would be, it was more than $11,000. When they called to tell me they had a bed, I said, "That's out of her price range." So, they matched the other place, which was $4,500 a month all inclusive. So for me, the value is awesome. She got the nicer place for the price of the cheaper one. "

"My mom has moved into The Seasons of Saxonburg. It is very nice. It is clean and very professional. They have a beauty salon, they have activities, and there's a courtyard. You can take your loved ones out to the courtyard and share a meal with them. There's also another side patio with a couple of tables and chairs. I've had some interaction with the staff, but not really with a lot of them, just with the coordinator, and she did well. It's very good for the money. They have a flat fee. Even if her care goes up, it's all one fee. They get three meals a day. My mom is in a private room. It's large for a private room."

"I didn't like the pod room system at Orion Personal Care Residence, but the staff members were really lovely people. We had a good time talking to them. It looked clean enough. The furniture was dingy. They had a lot of nice outdoor areas, but they also had a lot of ramps. I just didn't see my mother-in-law wanting to go up and down ramps too much."

"I found a place for when my mother-in-law is ready to go. It's The Lakes at Jefferson in Mercer. We toured their 2nd floor, which is the 24-hour care facility. The 1st floor has no assistance at all. They said when you're on the 2nd floor, they clean your place, wash your clothes, tell you of your medicines, and anything that you would need medically. They also take you to any appointments. It's like you're walking into the most beautiful wedding reception hall or even like a gentleman's club back in the day that you would see in movies because the floors are just stunningly beautiful. It has couches and beautiful furniture all over, and even a pool table that's just beautiful. The colors of the whole place, even the flowers, it's all beautiful. When you walk in, they have this big, long white counter and it's all refreshments that anybody can have, even if you're going for a visit. There are beautiful tables and chairs. It's so state-of-the-art. When I walked in, I thought my mother-in-law would love this place. I've seen other ones that look so run down and this is the nicest one I've ever seen. It doesn't even look like you're going to a nursing home. I did not talk to the staff, but I was introduced to a couple. What I liked is that that particular day they had a large van and any of the residents that wanted to go to Kaynak's are going on that trip that day. Those that didn't (because it was around Easter when I went) could come to help stuff eggs because they have a huge egg hunt for any family members, children, or even the local residents. They put on shows and entertainment, and they're outdoors. They have beautiful patios with fire pits and a waterfall thing. It's just nothing like I've ever seen that could be associated with the nursing home. If I go and visit, they have a private lounge room that's just like a living room with a big-screen TV. It's small enough to make it intimate, but large enough that if you had eight people with you or the whole family, you're all comfortable. I loved their meals too. They have an area where they post for the whole month, what they're having every day. They also have alternatives if you don't like that. I was just impressed, from top to bottom. I didn't meet any staff or personally talk to them, but I was introduced to one of their members who was in charge that day. I did not try their food, but the menu looked like something I would want. They even have a Taco Tuesday, where they literally have like a taco truck that comes out. They have certain things that happen weekly for the residents, aside from what they also cook inside the place. They have specialty trucks that come with special food. They had a hair salon right on-site and a workout area, a beautiful gym. The only thing that was different was just something that I did not expect from the phone call. When I went there, was the room that I got quoted was a price of $2800 a month for a semi-private (so there would be two people in that room). If you want the private one all to yourself, it's $4500 (which my mother-in-law doesn't have). The semi-private area was still really nice. The bathroom was huge and then the other room adjoined to that just looked like a hotel. It has 2 beds, a TV, a little kitchenette, a little sink with a refrigerator, and its own dressers. They just had a hotel look. "

"My mom is at The Haven at North Hills, and she enjoys it. We've had a positive experience, and mom likes the Haven a lot. She said she enjoys the activities and she has made a lot of friends. The staff is very friendly, the room is quite large and very comfortable, and it has its own bathroom. The facility has recently been renovated so it's very clean, and the furniture is all in very good shape. It's a very comfortable accommodation. I have not eaten there but mom says the food is pretty good. There's a common dining area, it's a large room with nice large windows all around it so it brings light from the outside. They have nice-looking facilities. They have daily activities, games, and exercise activities as well. There's a common room on each floor with a TV. It's a high-quality facility, and the people that I've interacted with there have been very nice."

"My mother-in-law moved into Harmony at Diamond Ridge. Nicole, the one who gave us the tour several times, had the biggest impact on my mother. She was very thorough, showing us the entire facility several times, answering all of the questions, providing and explaining the care my mother would be receiving, which met all of the criteria I needed for her. And so far, so good. They're wonderful, very helpful, get her down to her meals, bring her back, take her to activities, introduce her to other residents, and make her feel comfortable and at home. She loves the food. We can also eat with her if we'd like, and we have several times. The food is wonderful. They have a special every day, but there is also a completely different menu, so if it's something she doesn't like, she can order it from there. It's the cleanest facility I have been in. They have a ton of activities. They have art class, cards, and bingo. They have a coffee chat every morning, where residents can get together. They go down to the bistro and have coffee, get to know the other residents, have a snack or something, and talk, which she did, and she likes that really well. They have a lot of different activities. You get a schedule, and it's the whole day. If you want to be doing something every minute of the day, you can be. They go on outings and take them to restaurants and stores. I chose this facility because it seemed the best fit for her. The size of the facility, the staff, the director, and everyone that we have met. It just seemed like a perfect fit for her. All the facilities that I took her to, her exact words were that they felt like home to her."

"I liked Harmony at Harts Run. It's very nice and very clean. That's really important to me, the cleanliness and just the comfort of the place. The people were very nice and very welcoming. Marissa was very nice. It's a fairly new building."

"Northview Estates has a van which takes people places like to appointments or shopping. The rooms are big and nicely appointed. They have bingo, cards, and crafts."

"Trinity Oaks is the one where we're going to put my mother in. We have actually made arrangements and moved-in date. My mother would have had her own room that was huge, beautiful and clean. It was almost like an efficiency apartment. It was enough to put a double bed, dressers, a chair, and still we're able to put a recliner or extra furniture besides the bed. Their rooms were really of nice size and each one has its own bathroom. With regards to meals, I have not tasted their food but I have seen their menus. From what I have seen when they're eating, food looked really good. They have a professional cook and a professional kitchen. They have a large dining area which is more restaurant-style. They also offer alternatives if residents don't like the food that is being served. "

"Carriage Manor looks more like a bed and breakfast than a nursing home or personal care home. The staff is very caring but right now, they're understaffed. They have either single rooms or double rooms. They've got a front porch and a rear porch you can sit out on. We moved my mother to another place because she needs more care, but for somebody that needs assisted living, this place is a good value. Since they are understaffed right now, they don't want to take out time to do the activities. It's not that the people are not cared for, because they are. But I don't think they got the time or the staff to do the extra things like the activities and such."

"Supportive Services based in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania is a great program for people with Mental Health issues. It helped people learn everyday living skills and helped them with forming a plan to one day live again on their own. Supportive Services has many houses all over Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, New Brighton Pennsylvania and Ambridge Pennsylvania. Other than just group homes and assisted living facilities, they also have a personal care home for elderly patients. The staff is full of passionate people who love to help people in need and are very friendly, patient and helpful. "

"Both of my parents resided at Cambridge before the recent passing of my Dad. The entire staff showed such love and compassion to my Mom and our family at the time of our loss. The residents receive wonderful care and this is evident by how much my Mom feels at home at Cambridge. The rooms are very nice with an extra large bathroom, allowing plenty of room for a walker or wheelchair. I’ve been invited to eat and enjoyed the food very much in addition to hearing my Mom speak about the delicious options. There is a calendar with a wide variety of in-house activities and music, and there are also outings that keep the residents happy and active. The personal engagement the aides, nurses, and the entire staff take with each of the residents, goes a long way in making each person feel secure and treasured. The staff is always receptive to any questions we may have and are great at preventative care. Knowing those we love so dearly, are well taken care of, gives us a great piece of mind. "
