"My former husband is a resident of Maplewood at Stony Hill. The place is lovely. The people are great. A couple of times he tried to get out of bed himself, and he ended up on the floor, but they call me every time he does, and he's not getting hurt. The staff is very nice and very kind. They're all good. The food is nicely prepared. In the summer when it's nice weather, he goes outside. They have a lovely patio, but they also have grounds. It's just really a nice place. I have no complaints about the place other than the fact that he was having to pay extra, and they don't take Medicare. These people do a nice job on the food. Unfortunately, my former husband is on pureed food, but that's okay. It's kind of cute because what they do is they make it look kind of like what it's supposed to be, in the right shape and stuff like that. This place has been top-notch. This place is lovely. They're just trying to keep them occupied and try different things. They have an arts and crafts room, and another room to play games and stuff."

"I liked the Maplewood at Newtown. It had several floors and they designed it nicely. The rooms, the hall, and the carpet on all the floors are the same. As people decline, they put them on the lowest floor, and they have no idea that they changed rooms or areas. That was very impressive. The staff was very nice. They talked to us and showed us the brochures. They showed us the rooms and explained everything. I had a good impression. They showed us the studios, but I was interested in a one-bedroom. They had a beautiful library, a TV room, and a sitting room. Name it and they have it. In case you want anything special, you just tell them, and they do whatever they can for you."

"The Springvale Inn was gorgeous but it's way too big. I stood at one end of the hallway and I said, 'my mom can't do it.' They said that they have to get themselves to the dining area on their own power, but my mom needs more assistance than that one does. The Springvale Inn was very clean and organized and the rooms were spacious. That part was nice. The only part I didn't like is that the halls were extremely long. It was beautiful, but it was too big for my mom. I only met two people and they're extremely nice and really helpful. I only saw one room and it was being redone. It's gorgeous. They had a salon and a beautiful courtyard. They had a bingo hall, a big dining area, and a smaller dining area where you could hold family things. It was very clean. "

"My mother has lived there for a year, and we are very happy that the staff's attention to her care has continued to be excellent. The executive staff is also as attentive and most importantly they are accessible if we need anything!"

"I love the Spring Meadows by Monarch. It was clean and bright. The decor was amazing. They had that soothing blue. And the residents that we passed by were really pleasant. They were all so very happy. The room itself was just amazing. It was a perfect fit for what I was looking for. The sales manager was extremely nice and very informative in terms of the community, especially the activities that are offered. It was nice. The receptionist was amazing, and the nurses that walked by were very well-mannered and very pleasant."

"I saw a friend from church at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill and he liked the food there (he was a guy who liked to eat). It was a very nice place. The environment was very beautifully appointed with all the colors and large windows. My friend's apartment was very small. It was a studio size. He said he didn't need to have more than one room because he'd just go in there to sleep. He had a chair in the room, but it was very tight. He had a twin bed. The bathroom was built to accommodate people who had problems walking or standing in the shower. It was kept clean. It was a very wonderful environment. I didn't interact with the staff, but my friend said he liked them. They have a big room where everybody watches television with all the wheelchairs, and people are sitting around. The TV was huge. There was no other activity."

"My father has been a resident at Maplewood of Darien for 5 months. We have been very pleased with his care. His room, which is a studio, is very generously sized , the handicapped bathroom is large and the kitchenette is perfect for him. The staff is very attentive. When I am there even for the shortest visit, invariably a staff member will knock on his door to check on him. They have a broad range of activities. My father's favorites involve the outings such as scenic drives, concerts, plays and luncheons. He enjoys having lunch with a good friend he has made at the facility. Maplewood also allows me to coordinate his care with the V.A. where he receives his medications. The managing and administrative staff is very responsive and are always working to develop programs that the residents enjoy. I would highly recommend this facility."

"I looked at this facility for my 91yr. Old mom who has dementia. I feel it is a perfect solution for her . The staff were engaged and genuinely caring of the residents. It was a warm and cozy home without a hint of the institutionalized feel but at the same time I felt confident that the CNA ‘s were very capable. I would highly recommend visiting and considering this type of facility . "

"I went to Vanduzer Family Type Home for Adults in Walden. It's a very loving, caring family, very dedicated and devoted to their members. It's a very comfortable, warm environment, and they work together as a family unit to take care of the needs of each individual. The dining area is very home-like. There is a kitchenette attached to the dining room. The mother of the house cooks, and she makes very healthy food. Her husband does a lot of research, and they provide food that is healthy for their people. It's a home, so they have a beautiful backyard where people can go sit outside and enjoy the country-type setting. They also have permission to go on activities with family members freely. If there's a family member who has a pet, they're allowed to bring the pet to the room of the individual. They gave me a sample of something, and I was like, "What is this? You don't have to feed me." They said, "If you had come a little earlier, we would have given you lunch." It was a dessert, and it was a chocolate cheesecake. There was absolutely no sugar in it. It was gluten-free. I never would have guessed it was gluten-free. Their food is phenomenal."

"The Plaza at Clover Lake was a nice facility. It's a half an hour from where we are, so we can easily get to Mom and check on her. The people were friendly. The residents were friendly. It seemed like all the elderly that were there were happy and moving around and doing stuff and active. Even though I saw people in walkers and wheelchairs, they were kind of on the move and engaged. The mood was positive and energetic. I noticed there were a lot of staff there, and they had the different amenities and the assistance that my mom would need, like they have the physical, speech, and occupational therapy onsite. They do medications and all that kind of stuff that she would need. For the Medicaid, it's a shared room. I'd say it's akin it to kind of a dorm room. It had a decent-sized bathroom in the unit, and decent space, but kind of divided in half, so it's not fully private. You could get private rooms, but that would be self-pay. They have a lot of stuff. They have a nice patio outside that overlooks the lake. They do barbecues. They have musicians that come out there and perform. They have a little theater, a library, and a game room that has bingo, board games, and different stuff. They have large common areas, like a living room kind of. It's not like a house. This is a big facility. It has like 178 residents, so there are multiple buildings and elevators in the building. The admissions director was very personable, friendly, and hands-on. I've met with her several times, both in person, and talked with her on the phone. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it was everything that we needed, so it checked the boxes. The staff seemed very friendly, personable, and responsive. It looked like they have a varied menu. They have healthy choices and diabetic choices as well."

"I looked at Waterview Hills in Purdys. It was last fall when I went there, but it was very nice. They took us down to a lower level, and they had one floor that smelled a lot like urine, and I didn't like it. They need to improve on the cleanliness of it. It looked like you're on a cruise ship in there. They had nice cafeteria, and there were nice tapestries on the wall. It was very nice. The staff was very good. They had a beauty parlor, they had a gym for physical therapy, they had a big common room, and in the common room, they had a fish tank and a library. It was very nice."

"The room I saw at The Sentinel of Mohegan Lake is a double occupancy, but it is very pleasant. They don't have a regular M.D. They have a nurse practitioner for their medical department. They've got a pretty good pharmacy department and rehabilitation department. The food could be better. Upkeep and maintenance are pretty good. The dining area is very clean and very proficient."

"I went here. They were great, it's basically brand new, they opened during the pandemic, and I think they've done a really good job considering everything that they have to deal with. It's absolutely gorgeous, and they have a really great setup I think. The staff is fantastic, super, super knowledgeable, super helpful, they reached out a couple more times, and are just generally caring people. They had singles or doubles available, they're brand new with really high ceilings, they don't really feel small at all, like very nice. I did see a super, super nice courtyard in the middle that all the interior rooms looked out at, and even if it's not an exterior room you still have a view of daylight, a nice garden, stuff like that."
