"If you are reading this review you are likely experiencing a lot of emotions as you face the difficult decision of assisted living placement. As our Mother's health declined, our family was committed to keeping her at home as long as possible, but eventually, it became clear that we were putting both our father’s health (as the primary care giver) as well as hers in jeopardy. The moment we found Maplewood-Stony Hill we knew we had found a very special place that would not only provide excellent care for our Mom but would treat her as a beloved family member.  As we began the transition, the Stony Hill team quickly put their arms around all of us, since they knew better than we did that this change was truly a whole family affair.  I really love that Mom is surrounded by people who care about her and that she's in an environment that is fun, comfortable and safe. She especially enjoys the exercise, sing-a-longs, and trivia games. As a compliment to the caring culture, physically the facility is beautiful and clean. Cleaning products are odor free and there is a concerted effort to keep things clean and orderly. The dining room is lovely with tablecloths and formal settings. Mom has special dietary needs and the chefs took great care to not only learn about her restrictions but her specific likes and dislikes. This is a great example of how I know how very well she is both cared for and cared about. We have been so impressed with the love shown to our Mom and the compassion and patience each caregiver shows as they provide care to each of us.  This culture of care is present everywhere, from the front desk, maintenance and nurse assistant teams to the memory specialists, RNs, finance teams and the senior management who lead them. While this life decision will not be easy, if you decide that Maplewood-Stony Hill is right for your family, you will gain some piece of mind that your loved one is surrounded by people who truly care and that the environment is a comfortable, fun and safe place for them to not just live but thrive."

"The Springvale Inn is clean and they seemed to be very sensitive to the senior and the caregiver seems to be very caring. They have a lot of activities for them to keep them very busy and active. They do have a pool; the families and members could also utilize. They have also dental on site, two doctors on site and nurses. Everything is pretty much consolidated, you don’t have to travel unless you have a scheduled doctor’s appointment outside the facility. They supply transportation if needed. The dining area is very nice. It’s restaurant dining; very cozy and nice. I haven’t eaten there yet but the menu looks appetizing. Mom is going to have a very nice studio and it’s comfortable, carpeted floor and nice. They have tub and shower stool. It has all these safety railings on it. The visit was excellent. "

"My Mom moved into independent living at Spring Meadows 6 weeks ago after looking at 5 other locations. She choose Spring Meadows based on the amenities it offered her. From my first interaction with management for her lease signing to her move in we found the entire staff friendly, helpful, supportive and compassionate. Although my Mom lives independently, she could no longer live alone and did not want to live with family. Spring Meadows provides everything she was looking for and peace of mind for me knowing she is cared for 24/7 if needed. "My mother moved in to Maplewood at Strawberry Hill. The care is going very well. The food is not great -- my mother's not happy with the food -- but other than that everything is great. There they have bingo, baking, cooking, and arts and crafts. Also I think the staff is amazing and wonderful. They really have a good staff; very attentive and very caring. She is comfortable, and she feels that it’s a warm staff. They make a point of getting to know the residents. I absolutely would recommend the place. It is a very warm, caring, and positive environment. "

"Maplewood at Darien was the nicest facility that we looked at. They had very good staff, and it's one worth definitely considering. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and had good follow-up. The facilities were brand new, the rooms were very nice, it's upmarket, and a 4-star hotel quality. The dining area was very nice, the food we took home was delicious, they said it was made there, so they did a nice job."

"I visited The Dogwood Home with my daughter to find out if it would be a good fit for my husband who has a brain injury The house is impressive, light and airy, the rooms are also light and airy and personalized to each residents requirements. They have communal meals in a lovely dining area, they have living room and den options plus a delightful deck to enjoy the good weather. A very caring and pleasant place to be. "

"This is a wonderful community. It is spacious, airy and open. The residents have a full schedule of activities and a lively Happy Hour every day. The staff are friendly and helpful whenever I visit. I see them interacting in a caring and compassionate manner. I would definitely recommend this community."

"I went to Vanduzer Family Type Home for Adults in Walden. It's a very loving, caring family, very dedicated and devoted to their members. It's a very comfortable, warm environment, and they work together as a family unit to take care of the needs of each individual. The dining area is very home-like. There is a kitchenette attached to the dining room. The mother of the house cooks, and she makes very healthy food. Her husband does a lot of research, and they provide food that is healthy for their people. It's a home, so they have a beautiful backyard where people can go sit outside and enjoy the country-type setting. They also have permission to go on activities with family members freely. If there's a family member who has a pet, they're allowed to bring the pet to the room of the individual. They gave me a sample of something, and I was like, "What is this? You don't have to feed me." They said, "If you had come a little earlier, we would have given you lunch." It was a dessert, and it was a chocolate cheesecake. There was absolutely no sugar in it. It was gluten-free. I never would have guessed it was gluten-free. Their food is phenomenal."

"My mom moved into The Plaza at Clover Lake. The staff has been very nice. They are all very attentive and give pretty good personal care. They seem to be taking good care of my mom, so that's good. Their serving staff and the food have all been excellent. They have a variety of foods, and the residents can choose. The facility is very good. They do bingo and Wii sports on the TV. They even have trips and stuff, so the activities seem pretty good as well. My mom's room has a refrigerator, but she shares it with a roommate. They have televisions. They do not have a pool. They have courtyard space in the back, a big patio, benches, chairs, tables, and a garden that they can go into as well."

"I looked at Waterview Hills in Purdys. It was last fall when I went there, but it was very nice. They took us down to a lower level, and they had one floor that smelled a lot like urine, and I didn't like it. They need to improve on the cleanliness of it. It looked like you're on a cruise ship in there. They had nice cafeteria, and there were nice tapestries on the wall. It was very nice. The staff was very good. They had a beauty parlor, they had a gym for physical therapy, they had a big common room, and in the common room, they had a fish tank and a library. It was very nice."

"I am very pleased with The Sentinel of Mohegan Lake. First, the people are very nice. The management is very nice and very caring. I have the freedom to come and go as I please. There are no restrictions. Since I don't require any of the other services other than the room, I am happy here. I can bring my dinner from outside. I have a very lofty room with all the amenities like a telephone and television. And they keep this place spotless. The food is like regular cafeteria food. The tables are assigned, that way, everybody knows where they want to sit with friends. But most of the time, I don't eat there. They have activities, but I've never taken part in them. They bring dogs in to mingle with the residents. One day a week, they have opera nights. One of the residents was a big opera guy, and he explained the opera, and then he played it, and then people enjoyed it. They have a full set of activities. The people are very nice here. The staff are friendly and they're nice people. They will do whatever you ask of them. And they don't accept tips. It's good value."
