Assisted Living Communities in Whitefield, NH

"The tour we had at Riverglen House was very good. The woman worked around our own work schedule, and she was willing to stay late in the evening. So, that was appreciated. She seemed to understand the situation and gave us some good advice in terms of approaching the subject with our mom. Overall, we were very pleased. The rooms were very nice and clean. We saw the dining area, which looked like a nice community dining room. It wasn't a sterile feeling. The rooms themselves were a little bit smaller, but it definitely would have been a place that we would have gone."

"I was taken on a full tour of the facility when I was interviewed for a possible position in the kitchen/dining area. The outer facade of the building is not very clean, however the visiting and "day recreation" areas are. The bedrooms are orderly and clean, but the bathrooms were a bit messy. The kitchen area was the worst as far as cleanliness. It was cluttered and everyone working there seemed to be unorganized. The dining area was not very large and was not decorated. There seemed to be a lack of nurses or care-givers as opposed to the number of residents/patients. Many sat in the hallways, unattended and sad-looking. It didn't appear that the staff was negligent, rather they were scarce and clearly needed. I don't think I would be comfortable placing a loved one in a facility such as The Morrison (or any other, for that matter). I would keep them at home, with me, for as long as possible (with visiting nurses, if needed).I was not impressed with this facility and did not return for the second interview. "

"Summit By Morrison was very nice. We love the community. It's a brand-new facility. We looked at a cottage that has two bedrooms and a kitchen-living room combined. There is a sun porch and a laundry room, too. Some of them have garages. It is quite roomy. We went through the whole place. We went to the dining hall. They had a theater, and they had a library. They had assisted living places. The only thing is that it was on the small side. It was just a bedroom, a bathroom, and another small room which had a kitchenette in it. The staff was very nice. She introduced us to other people. The community is beautiful. It sits on the hill. It's very, very nice. The cottage was beautiful, too. It's perfect."

"My brother-in-law moved into Loch Lomond. They help him manage his meds and he's able to socialize there. Their rooms are mostly double rooms. Twin beds. They do the meals for them. The community feels homey. The staff was professional. Amenities and services include laundry, cooking, housekeeping, and socialization. My brother-in-law seemed pleased and he's a hard-to-please guy."

"As family legend has it my Aunt Bonnie spent a week in New York City and came home a different person. A year later my Aunt Bonnie moved to Vermont and refused to ever set foot in Pennsylvania ever again,and for my whole childhood my Aunt would call and send us letters, but never once visited. Out of nowhere my Aunt suffered a heart attack and shortly thereafter a stroke and needed care. I offered to let my aunt stay with us, but she refused. My aunt was living in a little town called Plainfield, Vermont halfway between St. Johnsbury and Montpelier. I made the 9 hour drive to Central Vermont Hospital and asked my aunt what she wanted and she said Canterbury Inn in St. Johnsbury. I drove the hour to St. Johnsbury and I was delighted with what a saw. Canterbury Inn wasn't at all like a traditional nursing home facility that I was use to in PA, it was much better. While the place doesn't have all of the "things" that an assisted living center in a city would have, the place smelled wonderful, the staff seemed very cheerful as did all of the residents. Best of all my Aunt got to stay in her beloved Vermont. Sadly, my aunt died only 2 weeks into her stay as she had another heart attack, but I am comforted by the wonderful care given by Canterbury Inn. "
