"We went to Lakeside Generations Senior Living Community. There are a lot more residents, so there's a feeling of community. There are a lot of people having coffee together, chatting, and doing different things. It's a larger facility. like the rate schedule, it starts out inexpensive, but then if you want, for example, prescription management, you pay so much per week for that. If you want just lunch, you pay so much a week for that or just dinner. You can build your own package, which is kind of attractive. They have a mini-kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave. We walked in unannounced. The staff was very good, she was the person that does that type of thing. She was extremely thorough and spent a lot of time with us, gave us a lot of written information, and did a really good job. They have a courtyard and it's actually on the lake, it's on Spring Lake in Dassel. They have a beautiful patio that's a hundred feet from the lake that overlooks the lake. It is very picturesque. The snack room where you eat your meals and have your mid-morning snack and everything overlooks the patio that overlooks the lake. So it was attractive. The building itself is relatively old though and it shows. It's clean, but it's not exactly what you'd call modern."

"We looked at Brookridge Assisted Living. My mother-in-law liked that it was close to our house since it's the same town, about a mile away. She liked the environment, they had a bird aviary. She liked the decor, but it wasn't modern. It felt more like it was her age style, the furnishings were contemporary furniture and stuff like that. They had drapes where some of them don't have any window treatments. If you had to summarize it, it felt like home and it was close to our home. We dropped in unannounced so they didn't know we were coming. The person that gave us the tour is not the person that normally does that. She was one of the aides that works there. She did a very good job, she's very hospitable and everything, but it wasn't like a pre-arranged with the person that normally would give a tour. She was very friendly, very accommodating, and very knowledgeable. I've visited there quite often because I know other people that stay there and so they have breaks and lunches, all that in their community room. My wife and I often go there to visit with some of the people. So I mean, I was very familiar with it to begin with, where my mother-in-law, of course, just moved up here from Florida and had never seen it before. We did not have any food on our tour. But I've often joined their residents for snacks and they have sing-alongs, and church services."

"I will be moving into Prince of Peace Retirement Living within 2 weeks. They're across from a park and it's close to downtown. Most of their independent living apartments were one-bedroom, and they're a little over 600 square feet. They would provide a refrigerator and a stove. They also had handicapped-accessible apartments. They had a regular 1-bedroom and a larger 1-bedroom apartment. They also had a 1-bedroom apartment plus a den, and a few 2-bedroom apartments. They had different activities scheduled on different days. They tried to do some social things like movie nights and get-togethers. They also had a noon meal a day for an additional cost. The staff did a very good job explaining what was all available with the cost, what amenities were included, and what was a la carte that they did offer. They had a beauty/barbershop area. They had a store that had some necessities. Like if you need to bake a cake and you don't have a cake mix, you could probably find one down there, toilet paper, toothpaste, and things like that. All the stuff that you need was centrally located. They had an elevator and they also had underground parking. And then if you bought groceries, they had a cart that you could use to haul your groceries up to your apartment. "

"I toured Woodstone Senior Living Assisted Living. The place was clean and neat. It's very transition-appropriate. It goes from senior apartments to assisted living and goes to memory care, which is very nice. The staff was friendly, nice, and well-educated. The food looked great. The menus looked good and there were options for everyone. They had bingo."

"Centennial Villa in Annandale wasn't too bad. The staff seemed very helpful, but we didn’t get a chance to tour the facility. We only looked at some of the private rooms. It was very nice, and they were very helpful and would have helped us get my mother moved, but she didn’t want to. As far as cleanliness and everything else, it was very nice. "

"My parents will be moving in. They've already rented an assisted living apartment. I know the building is not new, but it appeared to be new, very clean, and homelike. It had very comfortable seating scattered throughout the hallways and corners. I couldn't have looked for a nicer place. The staff couldn't have been better. They were knowledgeable and welcoming. We were shown their activity schedule, and they also showed us different areas of the campus where they do activities. It's an excellent schedule. We checked their dining room, and we viewed several of the apartments, the exercise room, the activity room, and the family party room, and we found nothing negative at all. After they saw this, they didn't want to look anywhere else. It was everything we were looking for."

"Glen Oaks is more in a wooded area. My mom was there. Actually, they had independent apartments, assisted living, and the skilled nursing facility, and she was in all three. I was impressed with their care. They were very, very good. They had adult daycare, transportation, and a beauty shop. They had a big picnic every summer and a Christmas event for all the families and the residents. While my mother was there, they had bingo, and they had people come in for concerts. Of course, they had church, and they had kids from the surrounding school that came in. They had an "animal day" too. "
