"My cousin has been in Country Cottage in Huntsville for three weeks now. We're very pleased with it. She has adjusted to it very well, and it's good care. There is a nurse practitioner on duty all the time. My cousin has a bedroom. We carried her own furniture; she could have whatever she wanted. She has her own bathroom, too. We're pleased with the maintenance. My cousin is beginning to like the food. She didn't at first, but she has adjusted to it. In terms of activities, I've seen puzzles and games and things like that in there and I saw a room where everybody can gather."

"I toured here. What I like best is the overall facility, the layout of the building, and the rooms. The cleanliness of the place was excellent. Very clean. I felt comfortable there. It's a friendly atmosphere. The rooms were very good. Excellent layout. The courtyard was well-kept, spacious, and good. I didn't feel cramped in. It's a good size."

"I toured Brookdale Jones Farm. It was good. They answered all my questions. I did not see activities, but we talked about the activities. There wasn't a big gathering place to do activities. I went through the kitchen when they were cooking, and the food looked great and smelled good. They had the salon and those kinds of things. There was therapy there. The rooms were nice and more like studio rooms."

"I have relatives living at Redstone Village. It is an upscale facility. It has all the amenities that a person would want right there close. They've got exercise and aerobics. They have instructors that come in for that. They just have a full complement. They've got a gym and workout area. They just got all of that onsite. The interaction with the staff was very good and very personable. When I went over there and toured and visited the facility, if I had any questions, I just asked them. They were just really nice. The food is fine. It's almost like going to an upscale restaurant. They've got a bridge club. They do yoga. They do exercise classes. They've got an exercise room for stair stepping. They've got some weights for somebody that's trying to work out to maintain strength and that kind of stuff. They've got aquatics. They've got pretty much anything you can think of activity-wise or therapy-wise. They've got it in-house."

"I toured Residences at Wellpoint. It was like a concierge hotel. It was huge and all the residents seemed to be very happy, but it was just kind of like a hotel. It's very similar to the other facility we went to only a little more high-end because it had Alexa in every single room. The staff was very open and honest about what she could and could not offer depending on our needs. She also gave us some other options as far as skilled nursing facilities to look into. They had a greenhouse area and a courtyard."

"I toured Madison at The Range. The people there seem to be very caring of the residents that were there. They didn't seem to mind visitors even though they had one case of COVID-19 in the memory care area, but the people were very open and upfront with all the services they offer and what it took to put your loved one in there. It has a bed, a chair, a nightstand, and a small bathroom. The staff was easy to talk to and discuss the issues, and she seemed very knowledgeable."

"My mom moved into Heritage Assisted Living & Memory Care. They are wonderful, very helpful, coordinated everything with us, and went out of their way to make her feel welcome. They bought her a special candy bar that she likes, bought her flowers, and put her name on the door, and welcome signs. All the ladies are very caring, and I'm very happy with them. I was there yesterday and they made us orange cream milkshakes in the middle of the afternoon. They were awesome. One afternoon she was there having lunch, and she had a huge slice of ham with some beans, fried green tomatoes, and chocolate pudding that looked delicious. I could have eaten it myself. They're nice, and if she wants something special that she likes, they go out of their way to try to get what she wants and make sure she's taken care of. What they did just before she moved in, they painted the whole room. They put in all new flooring. It's a nice size. Even she commented on how big the room was. She was quite happy. She was a little nervous about stepping down from a two-bedroom apartment, but this is more than she needs, so she's pretty content. She went to bingo the second day she was there. She won four times, and she's pretty tickled. We compared prices in other places, and theirs is probably one of the best."

"I visited Gardens of Hazel Green for my friend who needed assisted living. I thought it was very nice and very well-run. It was a small place but they had activities for the people that live there. I was pleased with it but they were saying that my friend had to be able to get herself to the dining room to eat, and we didn't know how she would react to her chemo yet. They've updated half of their facilities and it was very nice. They're in the process of updating the other half. All the ladies that we came across during our visit just loved it there. It was a strong and very active community. We only interacted with the manager and she was very informative and very helpful. The rooms were basic with a bathroom. They weren't fancy, but they were nice. It was a small facility but they had a courtyard in the middle. It makes a round or rectangular area, and they have big rocking chairs for everybody to sit and rock on the porches. I thought it was very pleasant."

"My mother is already in a home called Limestone Manor. It's a veteran's assisted living and only veterans or veteran spouses can be admitted there. My dad was a veteran, so they're helping with the finances there. She does pretty well on her own. This morning, she even changed her bedsheets by herself. It took her a while because she couldn't do anything and was holding on to something, her walker and all. Even though they have people there to help her, she likes to do things on her own if she can do it. I heard a lady when I was on the phone with her this morning, she came to the door and said, "We're going to wash bed sheets today, you want me to help you change them?", and my mom said she's already done it. The lady said, "Now you know you're supposed to wait for us to help you. That's why we're here." They take good care of her. One thing she loves is the best food that she has ever eaten in her life. They have a cook there. My mother is particular about eating other people's cooking. When she was at home, she didn't like the Meals on Wheels coming by with food because she didn't know where it came from and who cooked it. But she said, this place, they give you so much food, they fill you up and it is so good. She says she has not had one thing that she didn't like. Now she doesn't like fish at all but they served some grilled tilapia one day, she tried it, she liked it and she ate it. I couldn't believe it. The cook there is such a nice lady. Everyone there is so sweet and so nice. All of the attendants, the director, and the assistant director. She helped me with all the paperwork because I had no idea what I was doing, trying to get her into the home. She put me in contact with the man who could help me and they were all just wonderful. They had daily activities. They have them sit in a chair and do exercises with their arms and their legs. They play bingo and give prizes. As far as I know, bingo is the only game they've played so far. One day though, it was St. Patrick's Day and it was before she moved in, we were just there visiting and they were making crafts. They had done a mason jar, painted it green, and put glitter on it. They put fake flowers in it that were green. They made it for St. Patrick's Day. She missed out on that, but I'm sure they'll probably do some more crafts pretty soon for Easter. They're all wonderful, nice, and always in a good mood, smiling. My mom's a little hard of hearing, so they know they need to speak up for her and they do. The cleaning lady is very nice to her and even the handyman they have. He is very thorough and they have him hanging pictures and stuff. He's as sweet as he can be. and I haven't met anyone there who is not nice. The community is very nice. I think they only have 20 or 30 rooms there. They're all on one wing so everyone has a window. Everyone hangs wreaths on their door, that way they can tell if the room is empty. I told my mom that the ladies in the hallway told me to tell her that she needs to put her wreath on because everybody has a wreath on their door. It matches the seasons too. I got her a little wreath of spring flowers and all that and hung it on the door. They change it by season and which makes it look very nice down the hallway. Beautiful paintings are hanging down the hallways too. I think some of the people who had lived there have painted some of those, but some look so professional. They're just gorgeous paintings and they're all framed in. It's also always so clean. To the end of the hall, there's a larger area where the nurse's desk is at. There is also a big, round, gorgeous oak table. It looks like an antique and there are chairs all around it. There's a huge television and a lot of the ladies sit out there and watch TV. They could watch it in their room, but they'd rather sit out there and talk to each other. You go to the right and then there is a commons area, and that's where the front door is at. They call it the commons area because the assistant director has her desk in that room but there's also a huge gas rock fireplace and there are all kinds of beautiful furniture that look antique. There are couches and chairs and tables all around the fireplace where they can gather and talk. It's just a wonderful room. At the end of that room, there's a long table and that's where they sit and do crafts or play bingo. That's where they have church too. They move the chairs around and they have church on Wednesdays and Sundays. The dining room where they eat has gorgeous curtains and it looks like you're in a fancy restaurant. The tables are all round and they all have white tablecloths. I haven't tried their food yet because they only cook a certain amount to not waste food. The director told me they do not serve leftovers. She said, if I want to eat with my mom, I should tell them the day before and the cook will make more and have enough to eat. The people that live there have a choice of whether they want to eat a large portion, an average portion, or a small portion. My mom always asks for a small portion, but she said it's still a lot of food and she never had any complaints about the food at all."

"I went to see my granny this last weekend at Country Cottage - Decatur. I have no complaints. All of the workers were very sweet. When your loved one goes into a place like that, you always kind of worry that the workers won't be nice to them, but my fears were eliminated. It was very clean. It smelled great. The food was timely. If they say you're gonna eat at 5:00, you eat at 5:00. They cleaned up quickly after my granny. They're caring and personable. You can tell that these aren't just patients to them. They truly care about their well-being. She plays cards and stuff there, but I don't know if that's facilitated or if the old people just get together and play. I'm very comfortable with the care."

"I went to Columbia Cottage - Hartselle. I was looking for something that I could afford, and it was the best as far as the space and everything that was included. It was the best price and the most room I could get. I liked everybody. Everybody was very friendly. It was clean. They showed me everything as far as the menus and that kind of stuff. I just felt like that's something I can look forward to. They were very friendly and professional, but we laughed. They showed me everything. They included everything. The menus looked great. It's got everything that I need. I know that if I had to have more assistance I would still be able to get it with no problem. The salon is there on Fridays. They were just playing some games in some of the rooms. I'm a big crafter, and they were talking about, "Well, you could probably help with that out here, if the girls need things that you know that they don't know and stuff like that.""

"My mom has been at Fleming farms for 4 years. The place is beautiful and the staff excellent. Recently we had to move mom from independent care to memory care. Melissa and her staff were so caring and helpful. They moved her over and have been as loving and attentive as anyone could hope. I feel very comfortable that’s mom’s getting the best care possible."

"My wife will be moving into Regency Retirement Village - Huntsville. It was a nice community, and the residents seemed happy and well cared for. There are all levels of medical care there, from independent living to skilled nursing care. The incoming cost and monthly fees were reasonable. We looked at several different apartments and different floor plans. We saw a 1-bedroom deluxe. It was a bedroom with a den that can be used as a bedroom. I could come and go 24 hours, 7 days a week. I could also participate in the amenities, like the meals. The staff was good. I had good interaction with them, they answered questions, escorted me around, and they explained everything."

"We toured. The apartments are large and have a full-size bathroom and closet. The staff is very friendly. The outdoor area is lovely. The overall community there is just very welcoming. It's just like an impromptu lunch they were having for the whole community, that's why we went over. It was just hotdogs but they were very good. They were excellent. I complimented the chef when he came out."
