"My mother attends Morningside 5 days a week and would go 7 days if they were opened. She looks forward to it everyday. She has moderate dementia and has improved in some areas since attending. She talks about the special events, meals at the Center and it gives her a safe, inviting place to go daily. "

"The coordinator and the staff are creative and caring, always finding new ways to improve the physical strength of the seniors with dementia with exercises and daily outings to the park. They also invite community participation with group singing, crafts, and have youth volunteers. We are worried that the MediCal budget cuts effective November 20 2011 will affect this excellent center's work. "

"My mother requested to go to the center earlier than her regular schedule (9am). Instead, the driver picked her up early, drove her around town while picking up others and her arrival time to the center was still 9am. It took around half an hour longer than before to get there. After couple days being baking in the car for the whole hour while it takes around 10 minutes (yahoo map) from her house to the center she got sick mentally and physically and had to go the doctor office. She has been very upset and could not sleep the whole night the day the incident happened. The nurse (responsible in arranging the trips) explained she misunderstood that my mother would like to be in the car early? She confronted my mother in the manager office in the rude, disrespectful way that my mother was wrong to tell her a cheating person. The driver confirmed he was asked to do it by somebody from the center, it was not convenient way but it was not his own decision. The fact says it all. The center is not somebody's charity; it was paid by the government with the purpose to maintain the healthy living style for seniors not to abuse them or make them sick. Without the seniors, they all won't have those jobs. The seniors have their children, grandchildren and relatives, friends who care for them. We all should have our voices to protect our grandparents and for a better tomorrow for them, for us. Welcome all your comments. "

"My husband is going to the Memory Spa. It's very nice, they have very lovely people, it also provides hygiene, and personal grooming. The place is very efficient in the grooming portion, they cater in their food, they do exercise, games, mind games, they have a relaxing quiet room, they have television for instructional purposes, and they have social activities. They go for daily walks along the facility. It's really a nice place. I love the Memory Spa, I think they're just great people, they have a small clientele, and they don't take more than 25 people, but they feel comfortable, and at home. My husband goes once or maybe twice a week. I liked the management and caregivers."

"My mother had been diagnosed with vascular dementia and it was getting to a point where I could no longer meet her physical and mental needs at home (I work full-time and am a single person). I had to find a place where she could be safe during the day while I was at work and the Alzheimer's Family Services Center fit the bill. When I contacted the social worker at the center and explained my dilemma, they bent over backwards to help get her on the fast track for full-time enrollment at the center. Once she was enrolled, I was able to drop her off in the morning on my way to work and pick her up on the way back. It was hard at first, not knowing how my Mother would adjust to this new routine, but the staff there assured me she would be fine, and they were right! There were times when I had to pick her up early for a doctor appointment and I could barely pry her away from the activity she was participating in (for example: chair exercises, sing-along secessions at the piano, a craft project, or visit from a therapy dog). My Mother enjoyed it all in a completely safe environment with caring staff. I knew once I dropped her off at the center, I could be completely confident she was well taken care of and not have to worry while I was at work. What a heavy load off my shoulders that this service was available to me and the surrounding community. They provide a wonderful service for families who are caring for someone with Alzheimer's/dementia. I am forever grateful to them. "

"SBSS has been in business for over 100 years but in the last few years it has expanded and added a rich new set of programs and activities. It is particularly strong in the work it does with seniors from different cultures. It has an active adult day care program that included health screenings, exercise programming and memory training. The staff and volunteers speak a number of languages and are exceedingly knowledgeable and friendly. One of the neat new programs is the cyber cafe - largely staffed with volunteers that allows seniors to learn and use the computer. "
