We availed the services of the University of TN Medical Center Hospice Services. It was challenging, but they did a great job. They did the counseling at the hospital, with the questionnaire, and talked with us about our needs. They arranged for her transportation from the hospital to my house, the ambulance. They arranged for equipment such as a bed, a table, and oxygen tanks. They had all that delivered before her arrival. They supplied us with a lot of things like diapers, pads, and mouth swabs. They did counseling the day she got there and went over her meds. We established a health plan, do not resuscitate, all of that; they handled all that. Any drugs that she needed, they shipped directly to our house, and they provided a nurse two to three times a week, and then every day in the last week of her life. They were around to bathe her and help us change the bedding. They were very professional. Everyone that came to the house had an ID, and they called ahead of time to schedule the visit that day. They all wore safety gear, masks, and gloves. I felt very comfortable there. They were very empathetic. They communicated very well with me about my mother's care, her prognosis, longevity, and they worked well as a team.
