This staff is amazing. The care and passion they have for their job and caring for their patients is evident on a daily basis. I would recommend AseraCare to anyone. They are a much smaller organization in Lancaster County and can give patient focused care. They have met all of my families physical and emotional needs. Thank you AseraCare.

As a local pastor, I have had the blessing to work with other hospice care groups. Unfortunately, I have also had the misfortune to work with AseraCare. It is important for hospice to work with the entire care team, which other hospice groups recognize that the family pastor is an integral part providing spiritual care and support. AseraCare hospice does not work with me as a pastor and oftentimes puts the undue strain on the patient's family to contact me when they have been told by Aseracare that the patient is getting "close." Never in my career has a patient's family had to contact me during this time when hospice is involved, actually most hospice groups call me so often that I get to know the patient and the family extremely well by the time the journey is complete. Oftentimes, with this coordination, I can be there as soon as the family so that I can be there to provide pastoral support to my parishioner and their family during the sometimes long drawn out, grief filled struggle. I have also noticed that with AseraCare, the patient has not had her wishes met and oftentimes there is medical intervention to prolong life when that is against her advance directive and also against her family's wishes. I also do not see much outreach/checking up with the family members who so desperately can be blessed by the interaction of a good hospice team. When I had encouraged this patient to work with hospice, and had told the family how much hospice eased the difficult journey towards saying good bye to your loved one, I had no idea that there was a hospice like this one. I now regret recommending any hospice to this patient and her family. Not realizing the big difference between hospice care, having only worked with superior hospice groups in the past and never with AseraCare, I didn't make a recommendation for a specific hospice group. I will never do that again, I now know the importance of knowing the difference and finding the right care group for your loved one.
