Six years ago my father found himself alone when his wife and caregiver of 64 years was moved to a senior care facility, leaving him far from family and in need of assistance. Fortunately I found Home Instead in Wolfeboro NH, introduced them to my father, and they were soon able to initiate caregiving at 12 to 20 hours per week. Prroviding care for my father would prove very challenging as he was exceptionally proud and stubborn, and his needs were great in that my mom had taken care of all the homecare, bills, relationships, etc. Home Instead’s caregivers would drive him to the stores, coordinate appointments with doctors and others, keep him on schedule with medications, prep meals, help with getting dressed and personal care/hygiene, and provide an ear for his many stories. While there was a need to change or rotate caregivers over time, Home Instead provided a good framework and support for the them to quickly come up to speed to productively help my father and respond robustly when challenges arose. In addition, Home Instead communicated and coordinated with me frequently, alerting me of various needs along the way. Over time my father’s needs increased and his condition deteriorated. He would not admit need for help, and he created many challenges (he “fired” his caregivers several times). Home Instead met these difficulties professionally and with compassion. Although his predilection was to be suspicious of people, the caregivers navigated well and for some my father was able to develop a trusting relationship. After almost six years, the caregiving hours were increased to a nominal 12 hours per day, seven days per week and flexibly to 24 hours when needed. Eventually, I had to remove my father from his house to an assisted living facility. Knowing my father, I knew that had he been removed earlier, he would not have survived long. Home Instead and their caregivers enabled me to provide him more than five years of life where he could enjoy the sense of independence which he required. I highly recommend them.

My dad has dementia, and last fall I felt it was time to provide my mom, a retired nurse, with respite and professional support for his growing care needs. Our client care coordinator took the time to understand our needs and match them to a caregiver who brought skill and knowledge to the situation, while being sensitive to my mom's capability (and need for "control" over their situation). Since that beginning one shift a week, we have expanded to five, and the two new caregivers are different, yet just as fabulous as our first. One is extremely intuitive and knows how to engage with my dad, and listen to my mom. The other is very skilled and particularly helpful on her day with housework and light cleaning, thereby lighten mom's load with "chores" quite a bit. All really understand dementia, are very flexible, and highly reliable. The entire team at Home Instead are so professional, quick to share known resources, and excellent communicators. From the owners, to the administrators and the care professionals, it is clear that they care deeply for their clients and the families involved. Because of the support they have provided, we are able for now to continue to keep my dad at home, which is truly a blessing. I cannot recommend Wolfeboro Home Instead for senior care highly enough.

It was a big step to bring in home help to support my aging parents, but it's been a blessing providing support for my parents and peace of mind for the rest of the family. Our client care coordinator, really took the time to understand my parents' needs. She matched them an intuitive caregiver who brings just the right skills and sensibilities to the position. The caregiver is very flexible, helping with more practical things like housework and organizational tasks, while also providing companionship through walks, listening to music, etc. The team at Home Instead are highly professional, knowledgeable, organized, terrific communicators and clearly care deeply for their clientele. It comes across as a mission rather than a "job." Best of all, my parents, who were initially resistant to the idea, are delighted. I cannot recommend Home Instead Wolfeboro highly enough.
