In mourning

A nurse came to the house once. We got a call shortly before the second appointment informing us that she quit, but not to worry because another nurse would take over. Didn’t happen. Nobody called to reschedule. I left a message - nothing. We were ghosted in a time of great need. This is NOT the end-of-life care that was promised to us. The additional stress and lack of caring is unacceptable.

The hospice nurse came to home NEVER HAD A STETHOSCOPE, NEVER HAD A BP CUFF. "We look for other signs". I was told. I never once seen her look for motting at the feet. This lady (who is supposedly trained in hospice care) had no clue my husband was on the cusp of death. I seen more signs than her!!! Last time I saw the hospice nurse, she said "I think he has more than 5 days, but probably less than 10 before passing. He was gone in 12 hours. I feel like a newly graduated nurse could do better. The cna was good at her job and with the patient. STAY CLEAR OF THESE PEOPLE...I wish we had! Also, when I called for something at night, the person on call answering the phones was rather rude.

I cannot say enough good things about Lightways hospice. We were only blessed to be with them for a very short time but the impact they made in both my grandmother passing peacefully and for my family was tremendous. I am a healthcare provider and I have never seen such an extensive list of offerings for their patients. They have excellent communication, are responsive and timely. Every single person we came into contact with was compassionate and skilled. My grandmother was able to pass in such a beautiful way due to their skill and listening to her requests. They gave my family so much peace. Thank you for changing everything. We so appreciate you.

Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care was absolutely beautiful, and the care for my dad, the residents, and the family was amazing. They just finished remodeling and the rooms were really large. They had a bed that the family could sleep in and a private bathroom. They were constantly checking on my dad. At one point, he couldn't swallow anymore, so they made sure that they were giving him medication that was helping him. They were just on top of things. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for hospice care for their loved ones. They did an amazing job with my dad and they cared for him. I feel that he had respect and dignity and they took really good care of him.

Joliet Area Community Hospice came over within an hour after my husband arrived here at home. They did a full evaluation on him. They started him immediately with two nurses coming over twice a day, the social worker came over, and a pastor was stopping by daily. They were providing all his medications, diapers, wipes, and anything that I needed. When it got tough, when that rattled breathing started, at 3:00 in the morning they came out to the house and started him on the comfort package which I already had. I called them at 3 o'clock in the morning and they came here ten minutes after and were with me consistently. I would recommend it to anyone who has a got a person that's in need of having an awesome team that will work together, not only during the patient's hard time, but also working with the family and making sure the family is taken care of emotionally.
