Meal delivery services that deliver directly from restaurants don’t deliver prescriptions, but some services that offer grocery delivery may provide prescription delivery through affiliated pharmacies. For example, a pizza restaurant with in-house delivery drivers would not offer pharmacy delivery. However, contract delivery companies, such as Instacart, that partner with grocery and big box stores may offer both hot meal delivery when purchased in grocery stores along with prescription delivery.

Seniors in need of prescription delivery combined with meal delivery should first check with their preferred delivery companies to ensure the service is available. Not all pharmacies participate or partner with contract delivery companies, and the service may not be offered in certain states. It’s also important to note that while certain meal delivery services may offer prescription delivery, the services may not be available simultaneously. Customers looking for both food and prescription delivery at the same time may have to place two separate orders, as shoppers may need to pick up medications at pharmacies that are separate from their preferred grocery stores.

Food Delivery Services That Deliver Prescriptions

Instacart is one of the most well-known shopping services that delivers groceries and in-store prepared meals along with prescriptions. The company partners with Costco Pharmacies in participating states and cities to offer the service. Instacart requires shoppers to scan their IDs at the time of delivery. In some states, customers must provide physical signatures along with identification. In addition to Instacart, other food delivery services that offer prescription delivery to eligible customers include the following companies.

Uber Eats

Uber Eats is a supplemental delivery service offered by Uber’s ride-share service. In select areas with participating pharmacies, Uber Eats offers prescription delivery. Customers can access the service by logging into their Uber Eats account and choosing prescription delivery. A page will then open for Nimble RX, Uber’s pharmacy partner. The company accepts most major insurance plans, and customer information is kept confidential.

DoorDash

DoorDash is a popular food delivery company that picks up and delivers to-go food orders for customers from local restaurants. DoorDash offers prescription delivery services, but all drivers must follow specific protocols when working with prescription medications. All packages must be sealed at the time of pick-up and delivery, and all packaging must be non-transparent to protect customer privacy. Prescriptions are either left in a safe location at the time of delivery or delivered directly to the customer if signatures are required.

Shipt

Shipt is a shopping and delivery service that’s partnered with an umbrella of retailers, including Target, Walgreens, CVS and several local grocery stores. Shipt shoppers deliver groceries, including food prepared in-store, and it partners with CVS to provide prescription delivery to eligible customers. To order prescriptions, customers must call in to their local pharmacies or place orders via the CVS app and choose Shipt at checkout.
