When I first went to visit my great grandmother at the assisted living facility of One Penny Place, the staff was very friendly and kindly explained to me the location of her room. Once I got to her room it was filled with her possessions that she had brought from her home, and was able to decorate in any way that she would like. She was being given her medicine by employee that she receives everyday at the same time along with her meal. All residents at this facility are able to choose how many meals they would like to receive during the day; my grandmother has chosen to only receive dinner. Guests are allowed for the residents freely until the time of 4:00 in the afternoon, after this time they would have to ring the bell of the appropriate resident, where they let you in. They are able to roam freely around the facility, which has a library as well as an area that in afternoons is used for bingo or card games, etc. There is also a "dining room" that is commonly reserved for dining when a resident would like to gather with all of their family. There is also a room where the residents are able to use computers for whatever purpose they desire. A feature in the facility that I found was very interesting was that outside of each residents room there is a little table beside the door. On these tables are the possessions of the residents for each room. I first thought that this was just for customization, but then I realized that is was just for the residents that simply cannot remember which one of the rooms is their room. I find this to be a fantastic facility and I could not be more comfortable that my great grandmother is staying here.
