We toured the Garden Courte Memory Care Community. The campus grounds and everything were open, airy, and colorful. The staff was very attentive. We saw some people there when we walked around the tour. They had a calendar of events listed on the wall of what they do, basically seven days a week. So that was nice to see also. We also toured one of the rooms. They have a regular bathroom, and then they have a larger shower room facility. The floor was tiled, but that wasn't part of the shower. The shower was like a half unit. It was on the wall, but without the door. So, it was open. Then, the opposite side, where it was open, was a pretty big area. I'm guessing you could have a couple of staff in there helping work on somebody with a shower or a bath, or whatever needed to be taken care of, without any issues. So, that was nice to see. They had a nurse on staff and even had a doctor there. The staffing was very good. The areas were very organized. The activity and dining areas were good, and they had the hallways where a lot of the people tended to gather outside the rooms. They did some activities there because I guess that's where a lot of people congregated, and they felt comfortable there. It looks like they take into account the patient's likes, dislikes, and activities, like what they enjoy doing and where they feel comfortable. They like to sit outside their room and read. They don't force them to go over to the reading area. They cater to the patient very well. The staff who gave the tour was great. She answered all the questions. She gave us a folder full of information and a couple of business cards, said to call anytime, and told us the hours that she was there or her partner, so somebody's always there. They're very friendly, open, and informative.

My Dad was at Garden Courte for a year and a half. Every member of the office staff, caregivers, housekeeping, kitchen staff, maintenance, med techs, nurses, laundry, hair stylist and activity personnel are the most caring people. Every resident got care with compassion and smiles from all, including the residents. They have all become like part of my family. My Dad, who didn't like change, was happy there. God guided us to the best place ever for our Dad. God bless each one of them. The facilities are always clean and bright. The courts yard is well kept too.

We were so disappointed when the care giving staff of Garden Courte did not inform us when my father's condition changed to "actively dying". They did call hospice, but did not feel the need to reach out to us. This meant that no one was present when my father passed away a few hours after the Garden Courte staff called hospice. I can't think of anything more important than having a care staff that will take the time to communicate with family during such a critical time. We visited on a daily basis, and felt so incredibly disappointed to be left blindsided, excluded, and robbed of a final moment of connection with my father. Communication had always been poor. We had some meetings with the director about how to improve communication, also regarding the monitoring of the care my father was receiving. In the end, my father died without anyone in Garden Courte reaching out to inform us that he was dying. Food is comparable to meals on wheels, and smell was always off putting. We felt that the facility placed a lot of emphasis on medicating patients to keep them "calm", and we were shocked when they administered morphine to my father to "calm him down". My father slept for days after given morphine, and lost so much strength he never was able to walk since that time period.

My dad was at Garden Courte Memory Care Community. It was a wonderful facility and I highly recommend them. They had caring staff and the facility was very clean. Dad had a shared room and it looked wonderful. They had a ton of activities. They followed through with the activities. The activity director just had amazing things, like field trips and other wonderful things for the residents to do. But sometimes, I wish the communication had been better with how he was declining.

I wouldn't leave anybody at Garden Courte Memory Care Community. We were not impressed. A lot of the clients weren't being cared for and were not getting the help they needed. I feel like they were understaffed. The staff member who gave us the tour was nice. They were remodeling when were there.

The rooms at Garden Courte Memory Care Community were OK, but they were kind of plain. I was a little disappointed that they weren’t very homey. They had a case of the flu going around, so I couldn’t go into a lot of the places, but the residents seemed happy enough.

So far I've just visited around 6 times to get my Dad set up there. Once it smelled really bad, but the rest of the times were fine. I think it's par for the course with these kinds of places. I will say that out of all the facilities that aren't actual "adult family care homes," this was the only one that appeared to be squeaky clean with DSHS who do an extensive, random, 2-3-day inspection of each place they go.

I went to the Garden Courte. The rooms were clean. They had shared and single rooms. They were right by the main hospital and all the doctor’s clinics in the town. The price was doable. It was a positive, clean environment with lots of windows. It had a good feel and was updated inside.

Garden Courte Memory Care Community was very well organized. I liked the fact that there was a division between functional and non-functional. There were activities and programs during the day.

I did not care for Garden Courte Memory Care Community at all. The smell was terrible, and the rooms were awful and not well kept. The staff seemed OK.

We went to Garden Courte, and that was fantastic. They were absolutely fantastic. We were with them at least once a month. We go to meetings and stuff that they have there. They were more than helpful. They're wonderful. Their facilities were grand. If my husband could go somewhere, I would have him there in a heart beat and not feel at all apprehensive about it. It was very, very nice.

My mom was in Garden Courte before. The staff is very friendly and helpful overall. They did have some people that were stealing, and somebody put cold water on a patient for not cooperating, but they got fired. The rooms were fine. It was just basic rooms, and they were OK. Their food was not very good, and it wasn't very much either. The security is good, and the patients are as safe as possible. My mom had fallen and broke her wrist. I think they are understaffed. They need to hire more people. It was an Alzheimer's facility, so basically they were trying to keep people entertained. They brought people to entertain by singing. They had a Valentine dance where they brought in a karaoke singer. They brought people in to entertain.

I was really impressed with Garden Courte. It was really nice, everyone was so friendly, and they showed us everything. They showed us the activity centers and what they do with the patients. They had puzzles for certain residents that can still do puzzles, and they had guests come in and entertain them. They had sessions where they could draw, depending on what stages they were in their Alzheimer's. The person who showed us around and told us all about it was just very pleasant. I think their rooms were all two bedrooms -- two people shared a room -- and they were all very clean. There was no odor, and it was just very nice. Their dining area was very, very clean and presentable, and the food menu looked very, very good. The grounds were very well-kept with flowers and shrubbery, and they had a nice little garden area where the patients can go out and sit at tables.

My husband and I have had quite the couple of years dealing with aging relatives having to be in nursing homes and retirement homes. I think we're getting to be pretty good at evaluating what a good one is from what a bad one is. My great-aunt Agnes is 95 and, until recently, very spry and aware for her age. She's no Betty White but she was able to care for herself and her small cottage which was on the same property as my brother's in Seattle. But, while he doesn't have a family of his own, he couldn't be at his house 24 hours a day to continuously keep an eye on Aunt Aggie. I live in Oregon and travelling up to Seattle wasn't something I got much of an opportunity to do. My brother started to notice about a year ago that Aunt Aggie would forget first small things and then eventually even who he was. Doctors diagnosed her with borderline Alzheimer's and we felt it was simply dangerous to allow her to live essentially by herself. My brother did some shopping around the Puget Sound area for a place she could live that had a focus on Alzheimer's patients and eventually found Garden Courte in Olympia. While it's a bit of drive from Seattle and Eugene where I live, it's fair to say it's more or less splitting the difference for us as far as travel distance goes. They are GREAT at Garden Courte! While it's VERY expensive (over $3K a month!), Aunt Aggie is really getting what we (and Social Security) are paying for. You name it and they have it there: a mini theatre, an exercise room (Aunt Aggie was always worried about her slim figure), all the usual housekeeping and food services, plus activities and socializing fun. The health care there is second to none (it better be for the money we're paying them!) and Aunt Aggie seems to enjoy it there. Her Alzheimer's is getting worse, unfortunately, but she has lots of reminders of her life around her such as family pictures and mementos in her little apartment. The building/grounds are very nice and the staff treat all their residents with respect and warmth. Frankly, I'D like to live there! It would be great if we could round up all the family members who currently live in assisted living facilities, plus the ones headed that way, and all move to Garden Courte!

Our beloved Mother was diagnosed with dementia in 2010 and has been a resident at Garden Courte for 7 months now. She is doing better than at previous settings. All staff are caring and attentive, from the Director to the Caregivers. The food is very good. Mom is always clean and well-cared for, including manicures and pedicures! The communication between staff and the family is timely and effedtive. We rest assured every day that Mom is right where she should be given her current situation.
