"As I walked around Churchland, I saw the staff interacting with the residents. It was very nice, it was clean, and the rooms were clean. The workers seemed to enjoy what they were doing, and the residents looked happy. They all looked clean and well-kept. I was very impressed with them. The sales staff was pretty consistent with what they told me. "

"Harmony at Harbour View has a very good, caring, and attentive staff. My dad is in an efficiency apartment and it's very clean. The facility has a nice environment. I feel good about having him there. It smells good and seems safe. They have a lot of diverse activities."

"The Gardens of Virginia Beach is just down the street. My wife and I toured it and we're very happy and satisfied with it. She and I won't have to travel far to see my dad. The staff was very helpful. They didn't just wait for me to ask questions but I could tell from the conversation that they were looking for questions I might ask. We saw 3 different rooms. One room was big for what we were looking for. The smaller one was too small. But the middle one was just right and cozy. The most alluring feature of this facility is the general accessibility and the atmosphere of the whole place. I would absolutely recommend them to others. "

"Commonwealth Senior Living at Leigh Hall was very nice. They went out of their way. Their chef came out and talked to me as far as how they do a farm-to-table kind of meal plan with the seniors. He took a lot of time to explain that to me, so I was very impressed. It was an old renovated hotel. It still needs some updating, but it was very nice. They had apartments on the second and third floor. It was in a busier section of town, but it was close to Janaf Shopping Center and Military Circle Mall area. It was close to stores and things like that."

"The service at Indian River Residential Care Community is wonderful because this is a facility that all the people there are all in auxiliary grant, which mean that they are not a rich facility and I don't know if they have patients with private pay. There are a lot of things that they do not have. But for people like my son who cannot go even for one month on a private pay and can no longer live on his own, I thank God there is a facility like this. There is no choice menu, but that's alright. These people are happy that somebody is cooking for them. If they don't like what the dinner is, they can always have a sandwich. They don't have a lot of activities and that's very disappointing because I think old people need activities. But for activities, you need money. These are not well read people, so I think a library will be wasted. However, if a van can take them to a dollar store or Walmart once every other week, that will be wonderful. They will have something to look forward to, but they don't have that. There are some downfalls and yet for people who have nowhere else to go, thank God the place is there. I will rate the manager of that facility absolutely the highest mark plus double it. She is a wonder on this earth and all the people in that facilityand these are her words are her children. She is a wonderful human being. She is very good. She does what she has to do. She has taken a person out of there because he is a danger to others. She gives him a number of chances but it comes to a point that she can't keep him there any longer. Nothing is perfect and I am not saying that this place is perfect. Not all people are as nice or understanding or as kind as she. But ultimately she is in charge and she listen when you talk to her. She asks how we are doing and is everything is okay. She speaks with us and gives us a beautiful greeting when we come in. She runs the place beautifully. It is the love of her life and it shows. The people who are there are on auxiliary grant and these are the people who are not well-off at all. They haven't any abundance of anything in life and some of them like my son are mentally ill and other problems. So, they can't go out and earn hundreds of thousands of dollars a year so they can go to a private pay. This is a special place for special people. If somebody doesn't have enough money and can get an auxiliary, there is not that many places around to choose from. "

"We moved my sister from a large franchised facility. Her care improved exponentially in every aspect. Clara is so knowledgeable about all things dealing with elder care and nursing care in general. It’s HOME with the care and services needed for elderly, those with dementia, and those with medical needs. It’s like having family take care of family!"

"The Villages of Rosemont had a nice concept, except for the part that not all rooms come with showers and stuff, which I understood when the woman explained it to me. The staff was great. I met the medication nurse, the maintenance staff, and the kitchen staff. The building was easy to navigate so that the seniors wouldn't get lost. Everything just goes back in a circle. They end up back where they started from. They also have a library and an outdoor space."

"Serenity Care of VA is really amazing, honestly my Mother and I weren’t big fans of the huge corporate assisted living centers. I came across Serenity Care, their home is so welcoming, and accommodating. Ms. Doreen is very attentive, and hands on, and the management was able to work with me financially. I am blessed to have found you all, and I am relieved to know my mother is in good hands."

"I went to Chesapeake Place Senior Living. It was very clean, and updated, with a lot of new amenities there. It's just been remodeled. The rooms were pretty nice sized, they seemed clean and organized. They had a small dining area, and when you walked in, it was very pretty, with a sitting area. It was very easy to get to everything. They had a hair place where you can get your hair done, and that was within reach of most of the rooms, so everything was accessible. The staff was very good, very helpful."

"My mom moved into Bickford of Chesapeake in November. The facility is beautiful and brand new. It just opened in May, but it feels like home when you're inside. It doesn't feel institutional at all. They have big fireplaces and sofas in the seating areas. The staff is amazing and very knowledgeable. My mom has a large studio room that's nice and bright. It doesn't have a kitchenette. It's just a full bathroom with a walk-in shower. She has a dresser, a nightstand, a sofa with a small coffee table, and a bed, and there's still plenty of room. Three meals a day are included, and they have regular doctor visits. They have a hair salon inside. They do different fun activities all the time, like movies, popcorn, and games. What I was impressed with is that they have different stations set up throughout the facility to trigger memories. So, one is set up to look like an office, another is set up to look like a laundry area with an ironing board. They're very nicely done. I've been there to visit her when she's having her meals and everything looks good. It's farm-to-table as much as possible. They use fresh ingredients, they don't use processed foods."

"Harmony at Independence was really nice, but it was higher than the amount we are looking to pay. I felt the person who toured us around was a little bit pushy. They had studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. They showed the common rooms, a social area, and the dining room. Everyone was very nice. The food we had was OK. It was very tall and for my specific needs, needing to go up and down less would be ideal, but it was very clean."

"My mother has been in First Colonial Inn for two months in a $3,000, one-bedroom apartment that's just the right size. She fixes her own meals. It's six blocks from my business, so I can visit almost every day. It's a very nice three-story building, with very nice staff. It's less expensive than the other places I looked at. However, the meals were mediocre. "

"My mom moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Cedar Manor. It seemed like the place was appropriately staffed. It was open and bright. Everyone I met was very pleasant. The food seems okay. My mother hasn't been complaining about it. They've got a different meal every week for the four weeks. They've got pretty much a monthly menu. They helped get my mom situated, but I ended up having most of the stuff that I needed to move in. The facility looks clean, open, decent, and well-maintained. It's a fair value for the money."
