I visited this facility

The Arbors at Shelburne was very dated and needs updating. It felt like a nursing home. The outside was quite lovely, though. They had beautiful gardens and lots of room for the residents to walk outside, and it's secure. So, that was the positive thing from them, that there was more opportunity outside. The staff was fine. There were moments of professionalism and moments that I didn't think were very professional.

I visited this facility

The Arbors at Shelburne was a nice place. They would have been able to accommodate my mother-in-law's needs, but they had no openings. Their rooms were all the same. You could bring your own furniture, which made it easier for everybody to make it feel homier. The facility was nice because it had two sections. One was a little bit more independent than the other section, and they were closed off, but you can get from one to the other with help. They both had outside areas that the staff could bring the residents to. Everybody seemed friendly, very nice, and accommodating. They had different activity centers that they could use. They had a couple of care animals there that they could pet. Maybe there could have been a little bit more open area for the residents, and I think some of the things could have been more modernized or revamped a little bit.

The Arbors is the BEST!!! Never did my family and I dream that we’d find such a perfect memory care home for our father! He started out in the hospital and was then moved to a nursing home for rehab. His care wasn’t as good as we were comfortable with and it was an extremely stressful time for my father and all of us. When he moved into The Arbors, we breathed a huge sigh of relief because the people were so amazing and he was in a beautiful, homey place. The more people we met over time continued to impress us! Everyone is so kind and caring and they love my father...and he adores them! He gets lots of attention and is kept occupied by all of the activities offered. We have complete peace of mind now and I can finally sleep at night! We are forever grateful to The Arbors for their top-notch care!!

My mom has been at the Arbors for about 4 months. I am so thrilled with the care she is receiving. At the previous facility she was at I was afraid to leave her. At the Arbors I don’t have to worry about anything. I am confident that they will (and they have) contact me with any issues/concerns. I also feel at ease asking them a million questions! This is a challenging time for my family and all the staff has been an anchor for us. Mom was able to bring her things from home to surround her with some familiarity. Even her beloved lace curtains!!! The activities provided for the residents are diverse and plentiful. My family is blessed to have found the Arbors for my mom!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our mother had been in another facility in Maryland and we were so disappointed in her care there that we decided to move her to Vermont to be closer to me. I had heard such good things about The Arbors, I contacted them on a Saturday, they got me in for a tour and conversation that Sunday morning and we had our mother moved in by that Wednesday. The Arbors is everything we hoped for and much, much more. Our mother has cognitive issues, is nonverbal for the most part, and cannot walk without assistance. She has also been refusing to eat. The Arbors staff has been wonderful with her. They are all so patient and compassionate, always treating her with dignity, allowing her to make her own choices and, when necessary, prompting her to make the best decisions for herself. And The Arbors staff takes care of their resident's families as well. Staff is always checking in with me to make sure I'm doing okay. I don't have to worry about my mother at all, knowing that she is getting the best care possible, being treated with dignity and love. I give The Arbors the highest rating possible. It was the best decision we could have made and every single day we are incredibly grateful that we had this option available for our mother.

My family member has been the most stable in both medical and mental health, since residing in community. The staff brings positivity towards prompting good behaviors and encouragement towards participation in activities. Everyone is super supportive. Concerns are heard and addressed with the multidisciplinary team.

My mother lived at the Arbors for 3 years until her recent passing. I live nearby. I visited her often. I have high praise for the care she received. The facilities are excellent, but it is the people -- the care staff, the nurses, the managers, the activities, kitchen and maintenance staff -- that make the difference. They were attentive to her needs. I was moved by their kindness. They brought out the best in my mother and reassured me that I had made the right decision in having my mother live there.

We knew from our first visit to the Arbors that this was the place where my stepfather would thrive. He is fully engaged in all the daily activities, and always appears happy and relaxed when we visit. I could not say enough about the staff, from director to nursing staff, to social worker, and housekeeping; all are respectful and go out of the way to offer comfort and support to all residents. My stepfather's anxiety level (and mine) has declined considerably since he moved into the Arbors. The staff, residents and visitors all seem like one big caring family, and visiting is a pleasure!

My father has had a difficult year with various health issues including a traumatic head injury resulting in some cognitive impairment. We have had three trips to the ER and spent several weeks at the hospital, a few months in a rehab facility and also an assisted living arrangement over the past year. At a particularly difficult point in our journey through his care when we were pressured to make a decision, the Arbors reached out to us. I am so grateful that they did! We thought we had no local options for care. Finally now that he is at the Arbors I can sleep again at night. The support for my dad as well as for our family is amazing. I love the positive staff, the cheery facility, the great activities they do, and he loves the food. I recommend the Arbors highly!

The Arbors is the most wonderful facility! The love, care, and overall personality here is beyond my expectations for my beautiful mama. Everyone truly loves the residents here, from the nursing staff, to the kitchen staff, to the laundry professionals, maintenance staff, and even the wonderful people that work in the offuce areas! I was a geriatric nurse myself for 16 years. I feel sad about what I thought was exceptional care for the residents where I worked. This is truly a home experience for not only my mom, but also my dad. He visits mom every day and he is just as loved and cared for at The Arbors. I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE this place!!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was moved into this facility from another facility. He required a higher level of skilled staff to deal with the later stages of dementia. This facility guided me through the move, to include actually physically moving his belongings/furniture from his prior residence. They set his room up before our arrival and had a small plate of cookies waiting for him when we arrived to his "new home." He went directly for the cookies! He knew he was home! We were welcomed into The Arbors as one of the new members of the community. Staff introduced themselves to me in the hallway when we were walking. They were always attentive to the needs of the residents whenever I was there. At meal times I was always encouraged to join my husband, something we could still share with each other. The facility was clean and whenever I requested anything, it was quickly responded to. My husband passed away after only 2 mos at the Arbors. How did I learn of his passing? Jessie drove to my place of employment an hour away to tell me in person. She then drove me to The Arbors where we were greeted by Wendy, the Exec. Dir. She gave me a big hug, and we proceeded to my husband's room. When I walked in, Cathy, was sitting at his bedside, his music was playing softly and his Boston Red Sox cap was on his bed post. Cathy told me, "I stayed with him until your could get here.." After "taking care of things," Jessie then drove me home, another hour out of her way... It was not an easy road my husband and I traveled dealing with dementia, but in the end, I'm so grateful we were at The Arbors. They treated me with much love and kindness and continue to keep in touch. In our short time together, lifetime friendships were made. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

I visited this facility

On visiting a hospice client at this facility, I responded to the calls of a resident across the hall. He had been calling out "please help me" for about 5 minutes. I found a staff member to told me that they were in a meeting and that the resident who was calling out could wait since it was his disease talking. The client had urinated on the floor since he could not get help from the staff.
