I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was at Oceanview Senior Living. I was disappointed in them. They made a lot of promises that they couldn't keep because of staffing issues. They were supposed to wrap his legs every day and I showed up and they weren't wrapped. His apartment wasn't kept clean. They weren't really good about cleaning it as much as they were supposed to. My dad hated the food there. In the end there, my dad needed a lot more care than they were capable of giving him up to that point. He was there for three years. I don't know why they weren't able to keep employees there, but they had a high turnover. They couldn't keep an RN on staff, and I think that's why they're unable to give him the care that we were paying for. For example, the wrapping of the legs and the assistance in bathing weren't good about doing that. I showed up many times and he'd be in dirty clothes and not smelling very good. They need to address the staffing issue. I know that they have agency people because they can't keep anyone there. My dad didn't participate in the activities. They weren't consistent on it. They did take him fishing and he thoroughly enjoyed that. They would go fishing for a couple of hours once a week. The facility was not as clean as it could be, and it was not just his room, it was the whole facility. They had a salon, a pool table, and a foosball, and that's all I'm aware of.

I visited this facility

My mother-in-law likes Oceanview Senior Living. It is not big, but it is clean, neat, and smells good. We like it. The facilities are very good. There are two different types of rooms. We saw the whole place, and everything was fine. The staff member who assisted us was good and knew what she was talking about.

Oceanview Senior Living is very good, although they don't have any memory care. The people are nice and the staff seems efficient. I saw their studio and two-bedroom apartments, but it was very costly. The rooms were very good, clean, and up-to-date; I don't think you could ask for better rooms. They had a library, an activity room, hair dresser, and so on. We also had a meal there.

I visited this facility

We toured Oceanview. We were told on the phone that it was $2500, but when we got there, it was $4000 and another $1000 for me to live there. Their jacuzzi tub was out of order, and it was not fixed. The rooms that we were looking at did not have an ocean view, but they were spacious, and there was no cooking facility. There was a walk-in closet in the main bedroom; it was very pretty and very nice. However, it was not that easy to navigate.

Oceanview Senior Living was very nice and clean as well as the rooms. They showed me the dining area and the community area. It was a gorgeous place; it was like a resort. The menu looked good. The residents looked happy and active.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother has been at Oceanview Senior Living for six years. It's like a country club for seniors. It's a very warm environment. The residents do a lot of activities inside and outside of the community. The caregivers are wonderful. Everything i's just put together well. My mom loves it. They have 72 apartments there. Each one has a little refrigerator and microwave. The meals are provided. The cooks have to make the food kind of bland because some residents can't eat certain things. Everybody can just buy their own seasoning and put it on their food if they want. The meals look pretty good. The residents take trips into town on the facility's little bus. They go to Fred Meyer and Walmart once a week, and they can buy what they want.

It has good facilities. They have a bus to take people around to local stores which is nice, but often times care was inadequate. What happens with assisted living facilities is that they take in people who are not appropriate for the facility in order to make more money. In other words, the people who should be in an assisted living situation are people who need less care. But because of the desire to make money, they take in heavier care patients and don't hire enough staff for the care of these patients. Therefore this creates a dangerous situation for the person in this situation. Night staff is inadequate and during the day the patients are not visited enough. This was the case with my friend who fell. Eventually he was taken out and got better care in a smaller facility. I knew a caregiver who worked at Oceanview and quit because she just could not handle the many patients she was assigned to. The staff tries their best but is overloaded.
