My wife was in Avamere Rehabilitation of Coos Bay. The personnel there were not friendly. They were unsure of themselves. When you tried to ask a question, you didn't get a direct answer. It was an older facility. It seemed like there wasn't enough staff available to handle the patients' needs. They were understaffed as far as I was concerned. She said the food was terrible. They should have more activities, put more staff on, and be more personal with the patients.

My mom was at Avamere Coos Bay. My mom was out, but my stepdad moves out tomorrow. The general appearance is fine, but there are a few things that I don't love about it. It is not great but it is OK. It didn't go like I had hoped with my stepdad being there. There were few occasions that we were worried about. My stepdad ended up being sent to the emergency room because he was septic. My stepbrother was visiting him, and he noticed my stepdad wore a catheter, which was strapped to his leg. It was so tight on his leg that his leg was completely disformed from the swelling of it. My stepdad is legally blind, and he is almost 90, but they are telling the Senior and Disability Services that he can completely empty the catheter by himself, and without assistants that he can ambulate perfectly fine. He can walk a little bit, but he is very slow and weak. So they're saying he doesn't qualify for assisted living. He is going home tomorrow, and now we are trying to figure out what to do. They have the rehab services, they have events, and they have singing. However, my parents chose not to do anything. My mom had just said that she didn't feel like it. They offer things for them to do. In some ways, they're OK and in other ways, they're not at all OK. There is a terrible breakdown with communication between the administration, the staff, the family, and with the doctors because we had trouble with that.
