I moved into Sunrise of Gahanna. The grounds are lovely and very well maintained. The facility is well maintained. It's decorated nicely. You don't see anything that would catch your eye to be displeasing. The staff is wonderful and very nurturing, and they remember your name. They ask if there's anything that they can do to help you. They have games and puzzles and live music. They have an outdoor atrium, which is quite lovely. For example, the Ohio State football team is playing today, so they have a big gathering of football fans. They have a band there. They try to make the experience feel like home. The food is amazing knowing that they have to cook on a bland basis. The helpings are large, the food is good, and it's very balanced. We have soup and salad, entree and dessert.

My mother is in Sunrise of Gahanna. I was very impressed with it. It's nice and it's kept up-to-date. It's very good for Alzheimer's patients. The rooms are very nice and large enough, and they have a lot of space. Everything's been great. I've seen them doing different activities, but my mother probably is a little beyond that stage where she participates in activities. She likes the food. I've been there several times when she is having a meal, and the food is pretty good. They have a new chef and it seems like he's doing a very good job. The staff is very attentive. It's not like a hospital where there's somebody all the time. There is a person in what they call a neighborhood, and each section of the memory care has a neighborhood. The people's rooms are down the hallway and they have a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen and that's kind of a community. They all eat and watch TV together and stuff like that. I'm very impressed with how that neighborhood thing works. Everybody is in the same condition but in different stages. Some of them are worse than my mother and some of them are better than her. Value for money is very good considering she has a full onset of Alzheimer's. I think they try to feed them what they like for their age and what's healthy for them. They have the best interest of all their residents at heart. I'm pleased.

I went to tour the Sunrise of Gahanna. I looked at both their assisted living and memory care. It was very clean. The rooms were nice. They were very accommodating to meet your needs. They had activities. They had menus so that if the seniors that were there didn't like what was being served, they can choose something off from the menu, so that was a plus. It was good. They made sure the rooms were bright, and they had windows so that they could look out. They had their own little doors and you could decorate them to try to make them feel at home like bring in their own pictures and whatever, and they help you do that.

I'm not pleased with Sunrise of Gahanna. Their version of memory care is basically they isolate the individual, so there's no risk of them leaving or escaping. Other than that, there's no cognitive work with their patient that I can see at this point; I've complained about it. I think they're understaffed, and I think that's the key. They're understaffed to a point where they're only able to do the minimal of functions that are needed. They also are not equipped. The facility is very nice. I just think it's poorly managed. They don't have enough staff to make a full meal. Therefore on Sundays, my father and the rest of the guests are getting McDonald's or fast-food from the facility. They're providing them with fast-food for dinner two days a week. They have a common bath for all of the residents to use. The other place we toured has a bathroom shower facility in each room, but Sunrise doesn't for the memory care. They do for the assisted living, but not for the memory care. They have very, very little attendance there for the staff at night, so when things happen in the evening, you're not sure if someone's there to address it or not. Their screening process for some of the residents as far as psychiatric behavior assessment isn't very good. There are some residents there that probably don't belong there. They probably should be in a more skilled facility, not a skilled facility. The staffing would be better if they had a better assessment of the patients that they're working with. A lot of times, the patient needs a lot more work because they're deemed to be in a skilled facility. There's a lot more effort and a lot more work needed from the staff because of the type of patients they're allowing to come in. It's a shame because some of the patients there are in pretty bad shape as far as their behavior, but the staff is not equipped to handle that. They had a nice courtyard and lots of open windows, so there's a lot of natural light that gets into the building. The exterior is well kept, and the interior is nicely decorated.

Sunrise of Gahanna was a nice facility. The staff seemed really good, but I had a gut feeling that it just was kind of an average place. I only got to interact with a couple of the staff. They were all very nice. Their hearts were really in the right place. It was a cheery and sunny place. It had everything you would want, including a nice courtyard.

My wife just moved into Sunrise of Gahanna about three days ago. We chose this community because they answered all our questions, they did a nice job, and they were very attentive. She's got a lot of things that she wants, but she seems very content. She's very particular about the food, but she said the food's been good, and she's not complaining about it. She's got a nice room and it's a very, very nice setup. She needs a lot of care and they've been providing all that for us. It's just a very nice, very clean, and affordable facility. I've got seven different people that I could call over there, and they've been giving her the attention that she needs.

My father moved into Sunrise of Gahanna. We chose it for the people, the price, the place looked great, everything was clean. They have very caring staff. My dad liked the food, the room is spacious, he's got a room to himself, and it's a nice room.

They do the bare minimum - keep residents' faces and hands clean, provide food. Staff overheard screaming the f word at each other regularly.

Sunrise of Gahanna was excellent, and I couldn't ask for a better place for my husband. They took very good care of him and they worked with hospice to make him comfortable. I still go over and visit them, and he loved it even though he had a hard time adjusting at first. They just love him and I love them, it's just like a big family. I don't have any complaints. My husband also said that he liked the food, and we've had get-togethers there for families and they provided really good food. One time they had a big spaghetti dinner and another time we've had a luncheon with a potato bar and salad; it was really nice. They also invited me this past week to a cookout they're having. They're still keeping me in their family even though my husband has passed.

My mother-in-law was at Sunrise of Gahanna memory care. As far as the care is concerned, it's fine. We didn't have a problem with it. The staff took care of her fine. They answered our questions. It was a nice community to be in. It seemed clean and I never saw problems with the staff having to find things. They're always busy. The cleanliness really wasn't a problem. The dining area was fine. They had people eating in the dining area and the staff did assist some of them while they were eating.

Sunrise of Gahanna was nice, but the room was just a bedroom, and you don't have an apartment. They share a living room and a kitchen with other residents, and we didn't like that setup. They take you on activities.

Sunrise of Gahanna was a little more fancy and expensive. They had wonderful kitchens and exercise facilities. There was nothing negative. It just did not match my mother's needs well. It had a lot of exciting activities. The staff was exceptionally responsive. Everything was lovely.

My uncle is at Sunrise, and we like how it’s laid out. The people are nice, and the staff is friendly. The medical aides are on top of things. The room is spacious, wonderful, sunny, and terrific. The grounds are meticulous. They have cards, bingo, worship services, and movies.

I would say the care in Sunrise is going very well. They really try to help my mother-in-law with her Alzheimer's. They have the people painting and doing activities. They try to get the families involved too. There are just a lot of things that they are really trying to help them come alive again. It is hard to find, and it has a small atmosphere because there are only like 12 residents for a particular wing for her type of Dementia. You kind of get to know the other folks, and they have a very good social worker there. She is very good, and she sends us cards at home saying how great my mother-in-law is. It was very stressful, but this place makes us feel like we have probably found the right place for her. We visited quite a few facilities, and we just didn't feel any of those were right for her. This one actually had an opening, and everything kind of fell into place.

I visited Sunrise of Gahanna. I was very impressed. Their price was significantly greater than others that I looked at, so that was more of a concern and the reason for not having gone there. I think they would have been able to definitely address the concerns that I had. They were very attentive. I expressed my concerns and even went back, thinking about changing him before things got better. The ratio that they told me for they have for their expectations and how quickly people should respond seems what I would be looking for or better. So that was one consideration at one point. It was just probably gonna be at least 1/3 additional cost on top for what we were paying potentially just based on the level of care and the things that would have been required for space and all of that. The rooms were very nice; the space was very clean. There’s a nice area for people to be outside if they wanted to. There were indoor activities for people. It looked like a very well put together community. The security looked fine, I didn’t see any concern.

The food at Sunrise of Gahanna was good. They have an enclosed garden area with some raised beds that people who like to work in the dirt can deal with. The little neighborhoods and stuff were nice. The staff members all appeared confident and eager to help. I am still having trouble convincing my dad. The room that we saw was very clean. I was very happy with it.

Sunrise is a nice facility. It would have been number 1 on the list for me. They have a house cat and a house dog. And, being an animal person, that would have summed it up for me. But my dad is a farm gentlemen, and for him, animals should be in the barn or outside. So it's not meant for my dad. The layout of the building itself was a bit choppy, so getting from one place to another, I could see how someone with dementia could get confused. There's nothing that they could do unless they gathered the building. It's a nice bright building on the outside. The staff and the residents are friendly. They actually had a mayor of the building among the residents. They came right out and greeted me.

Sunrise is really close and only half a mile from our school. It's a very nice facility, and it was my second choice. They're excellent. The only reason I didn't go there was it was much more money than we're paying now. But I still would keep that one in mind in case the other facility won't work out. The rooms were a little smaller, but very nice. It's adequate for someone who has few pieces of furniture. It's well-kept. They have a very nice dining room. They have guests come in, they have a piano, they take residents out to shopping and to doctor appointments, as well as other different activities. It also has a small community settings where the rooms are not all in a straight line. It's not like a hotel. It is more broken up into areas, and you may have 8 to 10 apartments sharing a small dining area. So it has a cozy atmosphere.

I visited Sunrise of Gahanna and it looked liked this place is beautifully geared to Alzheimer's patients and my mom does not have Alzheimer's. The place was upbeat and bright. When I walked in and they had guitar playing and some people were dancing. It looked socializing and fun.

At Sunrise it seemed that group activities were abundant, residents were well cared for, and faciliites were very clean and comfortable. There was an ice cream parlor area where the residents could gather in order to play bingo, be social, and participate in scheduled activities. A dining area in each wing made the facility seem more homey and less "cold". The staff was always helpful and respectful and seemed clean and friendly. Pets were allowed at the facility for the residents to spend time with. Gardening was done in the yard and porch swings were available for the residents to sit outside and enjoy the weather when possible. Sometimes couples were both living there and the staff seemed very supportive and respectful of their marriages. Parking was sufficient and a drop off area made it easy for the visitors to come and go, as well as being able to take residents out for a visit or shopping trip elsewhere. If a resident passed away, his or her life was honored and a memorial placed in the lobby for display and memories to be shared. A baby grand piano was available and residents were encouraged to play if they had any abilities.
