There's nothing least that we liked about Spring Hills Middletown. We liked the whole complex and the person that we'd spoken with. They were very informative. They had quite a few amenities. They had patios, salons, and extra activities. We looked at all of the rooms, from the studio to the one-bedroom. They're fine. The place was clean. It's near hospitals and restaurants.

My mom has moved into Spring Hills Middletown. What I liked most about them is it's very clean, and they group them to have them interact, even if it's just sitting. They are not sitting in their rooms all the time, they have them out doing activities. They're very hands-on and they try to cater to their taste, whatever they would like to eat. They're just very in tune with what that individual is, more of an individual care than some of the others. They try to keep in mind what the patient likes. After taking care of bathroom duties, the bathroom garbage cans are emptied and there's no odor. It's a nice facility along with the caregivers themselves. They're very caring and very hands-on. They try to get to know each patient individually and were just attentive to their personal needs. None of this care is cheap. Overall, it's a better value than some of the others that have fewer positive marks for them.

We chose Spring Hills Middletown for my mother. We saw everything and that's what impressed us. Laura, the woman that worked with us, must have spent a half hour just asking about my mom's needs and what she likes. Then, she took us all over and introduced us to some of the other people there. It was just so good and clean and it smelled good. It seemed like the residents were happy. They had a wraparound porch with white rockers where my mom could just go out and sit. There's a courtyard with trees. She could start out paying for it with her own money, but they would also accept Medicare, and that appealed to us. It seemed like they had a lot of different activities and what impressed us is they wanted to include the family. They have private dining rooms, like if you wanted to have a birthday party or you wanted to do different things. It's easy to work with them. It seemed like the people that work there have worked a long time. Laura had been there 15 years. The lady that's in charge of the memory care has been there for a long time. I just think there was continuity of care. They said parents have gone in there and then when their children got to the age, they went in there as well. If you've had a terrible experience, I don't think you would choose to do that. They haven't been bought out. They're the original owners, which made me feel good, too.

My mother has been in Spring Hills Middletown for a couple of months. She has her own apartment, and she likes that. They help me out tremendously because they're making sure she's eating and doing those things. She's very well taken care of. They have things like finger painting and coloring. They made crafts one day and magnets to put on their refrigerators and stuff. They have some guy that comes in once a week and puts on a karaoke machine and sings with his guitar. Then his ladies of groupies are sitting there waiting for him. They've been very good. They've been wonderful. I've been with her when she's been eating there, and everything looked really good. I haven't myself eaten there. Somehow she's participating in activities, when they take her down all the time. She'll go if somebody comes to get her, and they've been very good about that.

Spring Hills Middletown had pretty much everything that my mom would need. They have a rehab center, a gym, pool tables, places to get together, and nice fireplaces throughout. It's beautiful, just very clean, and really nice. The lady who toured me around was very pleasant to work with. The rooms have a little kitchenette that has a microwave, a small fridge, sink, and a couple of cabinets for dishes and stuff. The room she's getting has a balcony. They're just sliding doors with the railing out, but it overlooks the courtyard.

I have chosen Spring Hills Middletown for my wife. A friend of mine's dad was there for like six months, and they liked it. My sister-in-law's friend had been there like five years ago, and her mom had been there; they liked it too. It was probably the biggest thing right there; plus, it's close to my home. The biggest factor was that a friend of mine whose dad had been there for six months liked it very well. My wife is in the memory care. There are only 16 beds there. There seems to be plenty of nurses and helpers. It's clean. The food is good. It all seems to be a plus. It's all about the people at the end of the day, and they seem to have very good people. I've only seen two or three activities because it's about the time I go at night. They try to get everybody involved. The staff is all promoting it and having a good time and things. Everything there is nice and clean. There is nice furniture. I don't see anything wrong with it.

My mother-in-law has moved into Spring Hills Middletown. She likes it, and she likes the food. She's antisocial. She's been on anti-depressants, and she just decided she felt better so, she quit taking them and weaned herself off. She didn't have to leave a room. They bring her lunch, breakfast, and dinner and all that. She likes it because she gets waited on hand, food doesn't have to be inserted into a breathing tube. She found a library, and that was a plus. She likes the library, it's really good. The library is huge. So, she's got her moments and good things. They wanted her settled there because it's close between all the boys, and that was that. It's always really clean and pretty inside and outside. They're always very well kept; I like that about it. For people that are anti-social, a lot of them there are like that. Then there's another section which is for memory care. They keep that on lock behind a different section. She's not in that section. She doesn't have any problem, except she is just hard to deal with. She's not in the memory section, she knows what's going on. It's a great big kitchen and she's got a glass-topped dining with four chairs. She's got a refrigerator, and she kept her hutch with a bar-type thing where you can put your microwave, and other stuff involving your food and snacks, and everything there. There was a pretty big space. We put a little knick-knack thing on one wall, and pictures everywhere. The bathroom is humongous, with lots and lots of space there. The bedroom is good size; she just got a 2-room. I love the bathroom. It's huge with a shower stall. It's the drop-down seat, so instead of using a bar of soap, I told the boys to just get her bottles of soap, and don't get bars, they're going to slide right off that seat. I gave her a chair that my mom had, my mom had passed. So, we gave her the rail, and then we got the seat. Inside the tub is a small seat, so she could sit right down. I bought her a great big showerhead that could reach across the room. That way, just leave it hanging to the bottom of the tub, turn the water on, turn her handle on for shower, bend over and you pick it right up. You don't have to stand up and lose your balance out of the tub or something. It worked out well. The dining area is always clean and pretty nicely decorated. The building and everything in the place are really clean. The people that come around, they're dressed properly and they're nice. I can't imagine having a problem with those people. I know the kitchen was nice, and that my favorite time was in the summer or spring when they get to plant food. They've got off the ground gardening, so I like that part where you can go outside and help do all the gardening. They take people outside that want to get involved and help do all the gardening outside. They go out daily to check it out and prune off the dead parts and water as needed. If it's good weather, they spend the day out there gardening. I enjoyed that about this place, that they have that for people, instead of just playing bingo or I don't know what they do; I know they have the library. I'd say it's a little too expensive, she'll be there a year. The place is clean, every part of this place. The carpets are kept clean, and if you see any crumbs anywhere, it's going to be outside of somebody's store, when they've dropped something. They're too old to pick stuff up, if they want to bend over and pick it up, they'd fall on her face. So, just little things like that. They've got decorations on everybody's door here for the holidays. She used to make all those crafts, I'm thinking maybe I should take them and go hang it up over there. The things I've seen over there, it looks like they do it themselves. When she moved in, the next day, they had something decorative on her door. They took care of all that and restores anything sitting around. Everything's pretty good. They're just overpriced, I don't understand it. I don't know how much they pay, or I don't know why it's so high. They have two wings, there's the assisted part where they really need assistance. Some of them can't walk, or with Alzheimer's and dementia really bad. They keep it locked down, so they can't escape because it's dangerous. That's up on a big hill. They can get out and be down there in the gully, and they wouldn't know if you're down there because it's full of trees. It's pretty, there's always deer out there. There's a creek down below, and it's full of trees, so there's always deer that come right up to the window and look at you. It's nice where they put them.
