"My mother went to this facility for rehabilitation after her heart attack. The staff was very accommodating. My mom wasn't too happy about abiding to the rules they have. They made her do exercises and stuff and she wasn't too happy about that. For a nursing home, you couldn't ask for a better nursing home as far as I'm concerned. They allowed me to have lunch with her whenever I was there. The food was decent and adequate. The room was a drawback because it was a smaller room and she had to share it with another gal and I just thought it was awful. What I liked best about the nursing home is they had her recovered and she's doing just great right now. They can improve on a little more personal care. They never seem to keep her on top of the situation and they wouldn't let her go to the cafeteria unless somebody brought her down, she had to wait for somebody to bring her back and she wasn't happy about that. They were slow in responding. "

"My husband just moved in to Grandview Iowa this Friday and I decided to put him there because he's diagnosed with Dementia. Stress is less for me, now that he's in the facility since he's getting aggressive. I will visit him anytime soon and I'm actually happy with the facility that he's in now. I find it very nice and accommodating. "

"Laporte City Nursing & Rehab C was a very clean place. The people were very kind. It was very well organized. I like the tour they gave us. You could see the residents, and everybody was well taken care of. We're very impressed. They answered all our questions. Everything was just very good. The facility was very nice, well-maintained, and clean. Everything was very pleasant. They have different games and stuff. They play with the residents. Like right now, they're hatching pheasant eggs, and the residents can watch that. They offer a variety of different things."

"We knew some people who were at The Vinton Lutheran Home and my mother-in-law would be comfortable there. They had different rooms and they were nice. The staff were friendly to us. It was a good place to put her. "

"I chose Ravenwood for my husband because my daughter's residence is close to this nursing home. He has been there for a couple of weeks now. From what I can see regarding their care and their concern for the patients, I would give them a high rating. Their staff is very friendly and very caring. They are willing to work with me on my husband's diet. Also, whenever I visited this place, there was always somebody there. His room is a little bit larger than what he used to have. I have no problem with his room whatsoever. "

"My brother is staying in NorthCrest Specialty Care for rehab. He has a room there with somebody else, and he gets his food and everything. It's very clean. I've interacted with the staff, although a little bit, and then on the phone a lot, but they are very good and caring. He's in a small room with twin beds."

Thank you for making sure I got my medications every day and taking care of other health issues. The activities really helped me get my mind off things. Keep up the good work!"

"My mom had rehab at the Pinnacle Specialty Care for a couple of months. The aides responded very well and were very speedy for the most part. The nurses were really good, and the rehab was wonderful. The amenities were great. They had a beauty parlor and a lot of activities that she refused to participate in. It could be long term if needed. If you didn't like what you were served or what was on the menu, they had ala carte that you could order from. They're very accommodating even down to the meals. A couple of aides were apparently not wanting to be working there and a few weren't friendly, but overall they're very attentive. The nurses would come in and talk about why she couldn't have a pain pill yet. The building was awesome and newer, and you wouldn't think "nursing home" when you walk in. The rooms were nice and kept clean."

"Hillcrest Home is a rather large nursing home in the small town of Sumner Iowa. The facility is easy to navigate and has several nice rooms for private use. The staff that I have met have all seemed to be very friendly, and from what I have seen they are hard workers as well. The facility is kept clean and also has a fairly pleasant smell. The facility's rooms are spacious and well kept. The rooms have tiled floors rather than carpet which is great for keeping rooms sanitary. There is a large outdoor area with a gazebo located in the center of the building. This is a very enjoyable amenity provided by the facility. My family has not had any complaints about the administration or the care that Hillcrest Home has provided for my grandmother and grandfather during their stay. I would recommend Hillcrest Home to anyone who is exploring the option of a nursing home. "

"When my elderly mother could no longer live at home, she became a resident of The Lutheran Home. Diagnosed several years earlier with Alzheimer's disease, she was a wanderer and initially had to be in a special dementia unit of the home. We'd waited as long as possible to relocate her to a care facility, because she was a very independent woman who really valued her freedom. From the start, I was impressed with the facility. This was not only because of its clean, comfortable and well-kept facility and grounds, but because of its people. Everyone was very friendly, and above all, they seemed to really care for their patients, even though they had many patients to care for, along with many challenges in dealing with day-to-day situations and problems of the elderly and infirmed. But even with the best of intentions, nursing home staff can't do all of the care for your loved one without your support and participation. My mother was very hard of hearing, and relied on a hearing aid as an important tool in communicating with the outside world. The staff cheerfully agreed to help with her hearing aid, keeping it in a secure place and putting it into her ear every day. But family members need to remember to take the hearing aid for cleanings and make sure the batteries work. The staff of the nursing home can't do it along, and small cooperative efforts like that can make a big difference for a nursing home resident.Without a doubt, my best impression of the Lutheran Home was from one of the saddest nights of my life. Nursing home staff called me in the late afternoon to let me know that Mom probably wouldn't make it through the night, and I went to be with her. It turned out that my brother and sister were both working out of town, so I sat with Mom alone. But we weren't alone. The nurse on duty visited frequently to not only see how Mom was, but to check on me as well. Aides came every hour to perform tasks to make sure that she was comfortable. In the middle of the night, they brought me a tray of snacks and coffee. And when Mom passed away the next morning, all of the staff on duty in the ward asked if they could clean her. They lovingly cleaned her body and combed her hair, and I remember so clearly that they were all crying as they invited me back into her room to see her lying peacefully in her bed. To me, that experience was symbolic of the loving attention Mom had received at the Lutheran Home - from people who weren't just doing a job, but seemed to sincerely care for the residents as people. It was something for which I will also be grateful. "
