I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Father In Law was recently in this facility and he will not be back!!! People there were not attentive to his needs. He is a recent amputee and his experience was a nightmare. He would hit the call button for nearly 2 hours on more than one occassion and nobody ever came, He then proceeded to calling the facility with his cellphone and still got nobody. Resulted in him using the bathroom all over himself and laying there like that for another couple hours!! He asked for pain meds at one point and took forever to get those, when he finally did the nurse was very crappy with him and brought ALL his meds, he only needed something to help the pain. The physical therapist there also was very rude to him. Honestly I don't know how this place is even still up and running.....especially with their ratings! If you have a family member here GET THEM OUT LIKE YESTERDAY!! I wouldn't leave my dog at this establishment for even 15 minutes!!! I dunno if they are just understaffed or they just don't care, or a mixture of both. Check on your people, we went even at 1 and 2am to check on him. It also took 2 days to get just some nail clippers, which they had on hand in a safe area.

Over all, the rooms are clean and well maintained. Most of the staff have been quite personable and friendly. All of the staff have been professional and helpful. My relative was admitted a few weeks ago so I am not totally familiar that all the facility has to offer, but from discussions with staff members there seems to be lots of opportunities inside and outside of the facility. The facility offers many services in addition to rehabilitation and medical care, including hair care and styling, and even outside (non-medical) excursions, all for a fee of course. As I said, my relative is new to this facility, but thus far I am pleased and hopeful. I will comment later as my relative and I become more familiar with the facility.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS FACILITY!! This facility is AWFUL! My friend is in this place. I would NEVER place any of my family here. My friend has been there about 2 months and has fallen 3 times. She's in a wheelchair, so obviously she's NOT being checked on in a timely manner. Oh, I should mention that 2 of these falls resulted in broken bones. Also, she was changed once day while I was there. She's not incontinent with bowel movements, but they were bringing out soiled linens. I know she is not incontinent with bowel movements because I have taken care of her for a few years. Her hair was not brushed. Her Johnny was not covering her entire body. Her bed was left unmade the entire length of my visit. I told the staff and waited for it to be done before I left. Upon arrival to this facility, another caregiver was with our friend and she noticed how filthy the room was. There was stuff on the walls and just an overall unclean look. She asked for the room to be cleaned, many times. It wasn't until our friend had been there about 3 weeks, after she fell the 1st time, that there was even a notification that this room needed a "deep clean". REALLY?? A room should be deep cleaned as it's evacuated! Then and only then should another resident be allowed in it! One time she'd fallen, she was lying on the floor for God knows how long, covered in feces. Feces was all over the bed and wall. She had been trying to get to the bathroom. When she returned from the hospital, several hours later, the mess was still there! UNACCEPTABLE! The nurse was nice when she came in to give meds, except she took my friend's blood sugar 2 hours before the meal was to be delivered. Blood sugar should be taken within a HALF HOUR of eating, not TWO hours before she's supposed to eat. There was one NA who was very warm to my friend. The others seem like they're just there to collect a paycheck. Same with the nurses.

My mother was a resident for rehab. I was completely happy, particularly with the care and attention from the staff. Staff members went out of their way to meet her needs. The physical therapy was professional and effective. My mother enjoyed her meals. There are daily activities for residents, parties on holidays, and regular visits from many church groups. We came to this facility after getting completely unsatisfactory service from another facility in our community, and I'm so grateful that we did. I would recommend Universal to anyone.

I would like to thank the entire staff of universal health care of greenville nc. for the love and kindness they showed my family as we were waiting for God to call our Johnny Small home. I wish I could call every nurse by name but i dont know all of them and all should be mentioned. They did their VERY best to make sure we were comfortable as we were with Johnny before he went home. They went out of their way to help in any way ! And as he took his last breath here on earth and the family couldnt be there , His loving nurses were with him! I could never ever say Thank you enough. You were there when we needed you the most. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to anyone and everyone who ever gave him a smile, kind word. passed him his "pop" and cakes, and showed him love when we werent there! People dont always see the good we do but God does! Im sure those of you who showed that love to Johnny will surely be blessed! Thank you

My friends father was a resident here and developed a bedsore that eventually became septic and he passed. They essentially killed him due to neglect. Administrative staff changes monthly and overall staff is rude and neglectful. I couldn't be paid to send my loved ones here.

Very unprofessional. neglectful, and uncaring to residents. Very seldom and pleasant greeting from staff. Staff to me appears to be mindful of their years of service and just doing just minimal to get their time in to retire, There are few workers who have an empathy, and a caring heart. When the state sends out employees for a week or two, everyone is bury at work, even the office staff were busy manning phones and at the nurses station, The building is clean, and everyone is working., Once they leave it is back to normal. Family memebers are not properly cared for.

My mom went here for rehab after a knee replacement. I find the care there to be neglectful. She was pretty independent in her room so she would do everything herself including changing her bed, bathing, dressing, etc. One time they didn't answer her call light for three hours. Another time two hours and finally walked down the hall to find the nurse sleeping at the desk. They didn't help her put her leg exercise machine (CPM) on her bed so she would do it herself or leave it on the bed because it's about 40 pounds. Food was not good and she couldn't even determine what kind of meat it was. It was absolutely terrible. The therapy wasn't so bad but they were off several days for the holiday and did not have a schedule. There was maybe one or two good nurses. I can't imagine what they do to the people who can't fend for themselves.

The food is not good. My mom couldn't eat most of it, especially dinner time. We ended up having to bring in meals for her at dinner time. There were complaints from others at the facility while my mom was there. One night in particular the main course meat was spoiled. At first my mom would stay in the same clothes from the night before all the next day. To me, that seems like neglect because there is no way she was being bathed properly. I did find her laying in urine with a very wet bed pad one evening. I addressed all this with the staff and after several complaints some of these problems were addressed. The food is still not up to par as far as taste. The Medical doctor on staff doesn't seem to want to talk to the patients family and hear concerns. Seems like his decisions are set in stone and doesn't bother to consider the feelings of patients children. (The Children know her the best and know what has helped her during her time at home) the medical doctor has been asked to call the children and he has neglected to do so. So, overall I would have to rate this facility low. The physical and Occupational therapist and a few Nurses are awesome! Some of the CNA's are great. The admissions staff is awesome and listens to complaints and acts on them in a timely manner. The facility has a lot of work to do to be up to par and they are working diligently to make this happen.
