I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I visited my friend's mothet there. Ehen I saw how the staff interacted with the patients and residents thete, they wete very uncaring. They rarely checkef on them and didn't seem to know about their medicines. It is a very unsafe environment.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The person I take care of stayed there at Crystal Lake for quite a few years, and he has witness abuses of other residents. It is just not a good place. The elevators were very old, and half the time he worries if it is actually going to work. The facilities that are run by the state are always a little less in any kind of quality. They line people up in the hallway, and they just medicate them. The food is not good. It is a state run facility, so you'll never find good quality food. It is difficult because they deal with so many residents. You do have your good nurses that really care about the patients as long as it is not the midnight shift. If it is a midnight shift, you could forget it if you needed any help because they are all sleeping.

I visited this facility

As hard as it was having my grandmother at that location, I thought the staff working at Crystal Lake was very professional and pleasant to be around. I was always depressed while I was there but I 100% attribute that to the fact that my grandmother was so ill, not to the facility itself. The nurses were very nice and formed a relationship with my mother because she was there so often visiting my grandmother. Overall I liked this facility and I would send another family member there if I had to. A- Total rating.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My brother has been in this facility for a number of years. He is not mentally challenged, nor does he have a debilitating illness. He had throat cancer and is living with a trach with a stomach tube. He is there because he had difficulty caring for himself. He is now being treated as a prisoner: he is not allowed out of this facility --- he must wear an ankle bracelet, nor can he spend the day at his mother's home. This is all because (1) his mother dropped him of a ways from this place so he could get some fresh air and walk back and (2) he became angry, and because he wanted to be alone for awhile, went into his closet. He fell asleep. They could not find him, and when they did, they moved him to a different floor (where the more seriously ill, or emotionally challenged residents are. When he has asked for medication, he is kept waiting. He is supposed to have a pancreatic test, which is continually being "rescheduled." He is a very intelligent man, but has (or had) issues with alcohol, ineptitude, discrimination, & lack of attending to his needs. His mother is too elderly to properly care for him and is increasingly disturbed and distrought. She feels helpless in this situation, a burden no one should have to live with. I believe she feels guilty enough about that, without having to witness this treatment. My brother doesn't always use the best common sense, but is that reason enough to keep him a prisoner???
