Beverly, thanks for the kind words. Looks like we're treating your mother like family, which is our goal.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at BeeHive Homes of Mesquite. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
Our residents range in age from mid-70s to over 100, with the average age being about 85. Some of our residents prefer to watch TV or read in their rooms; others are more social and enjoy spending time in the dining room or living room with other residents. We do have a variety of group activities for different interests. We have covered porch and from patio areas that the residents can enjoy when the weather allows.
What programs or activities does BeeHive Homes of Mesquite offer to enrich residents' well-being?
We schedule a variety of activities to meet our residents' needs and interests. Some of these are: exercise groups, crafts and puzzles, trivia and bingo games (these folks are serious about their bingo and winnings!!), and sing-alongs. We normally have different groups from local schools and churches that come in and share entertainment with our residents especially around the holiday season.
What places are near BeeHive Homes of Mesquite or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
We have walkways around our buildings and sidewalks to a city park next door.
What transportation services does BeeHive Homes of Mesquite offer to assisted living residents?
We don't offer transportation services to our residents but can assist in making arrangements.
What makes the chef or dining program at BeeHive Homes of Mesquite exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Our meals are planned by a dietitian and are all prepared in-house by our own cooks. We try to honor any resident preferences and requests, and our menus can be modified to meet resident likes and dislikes. We have the ability to modify meals as needed if a resident needs softer-textured foods or therapeutic diets.
What safety features or security measures does BeeHive Homes of Mesquite offer to assisted living residents?
Our homes have full fire alarm systems, including smoke and heat detectors and sprinklers and alarm pull boxes at each exit. Our exit doors are locked each evening for the safety of our residents and staff. We also have chimes on each exit door so that staff can monitor when residents or visitors enter or exit the building.
How does BeeHive Homes of Mesquite keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
During the COVID pandemic, our families and residents have really missed seeing each other in person. We've helped them stay in touch by using phone calls and video visits. Our administrator and owner keep in contact with residents' families by phone and video updates to keep them informed about developments with COVID and our responses to keep our residents safe.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at BeeHive Homes of Mesquite during daytime and nighttime hours?
During the daytime hours we have two caregivers, the house manager and a cook on duty for up to 15 residents. Two caregivers stay through the evening hours to serve dinner and assist residents getting ready for bed, and one caregiver is awake on duty through the overnight hours.
If BeeHive Homes of Mesquite accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We welcome small pets as long as the resident is able to care for them. There are sidewalks outside and a city park next door for recreation and pet needs. To comply with state regulations, we must have records of current immunizations for any pets.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
Our caregiving staff receives training on assisting with medication administration, resident rights and safety and basic resident care all upon hire. They also receive ongoing training monthly on other topics related to our residents' needs. These topics include resident abuse and reporting, resident rights, dementia care, resident nutritional needs, resident safety and medication training.
What safety features or security measures does BeeHive Homes of Mesquite provide to protect residents who wander?
Our homes are not "secure" (locked units) so we cannot accept any resident who may be a wandering risk. However, we have found that even with moderate dementia, most residents are fine for our location and do not present a risk of wandering outside the home.
