Cedargate Healthcare was very nice when you first entered the place. They had it decorated nicely and it's clean up front. The person that did the tour was very nice and very knowledgeable. They had a good variety of activities for the residents. The bathrooms were just small and I think that they had to put new tiles up there.

I went to Cedargate Healthcare. It's an older facility. It's a very small facility. There aren't that many rooms, and they did not have a single room for my mother. If I still lived in Poplar Bluff, I would have moved my mother there because it seems so well suited to my mother. It was like the country. It was quiet, restful, and peaceful. It sounds like it's in town, but it's not. It's like, all of a sudden, you're in the middle of nowhere. It's awesome. The grounds make you feel as though you're in the woods. The girl that gave me the tour happened to be a former student of mine, which made it awesome. They only had one dining area and it looked like somebody's home. It's a homey feeling. The common room was like somebody's living room, with no big tables or anything, just sofas and chairs, high enough to get in and out of, and just a comfortable, homey look. It was an hour and a half drive to get back home. So, that's why I did not choose Cedargate. They have shared rooms and they're rather old-fashioned, a little bit smaller than what one would normally like, I could probably have gotten a double room with just one person in it. I paid a little bit more, and the cost was way below what one would expect. It's very inexpensive, half of what I'm paying right now. They're really low on RNs and LPNs, but they're extremely caring. The staff-to-patient ratio almost seemed one-to-one.

Cedargate Healthcare was a very nice facility. It was really pretty and well taken care of. They had different room sizes and they were all nice. Me and my brother looked at it and we were just very impressed. The staff member who gave us the tour was very polite and very helpful. The dining area was very nice, clean, and they got different activities and games for them.

Cedargate Nursing Home is a nice place for a lot of elderly people to retire, especially if they can still function on their own. The lobby is nicely furnished, with comfortable furniture and tasteful paintings, wallpaper and carpeting. Each room is meant for one person to live in at a time, different from many nursing homes in the area. The rooms are spacious with a closet and adjoining bathroom. Patients may bring in their own furniture to furnish their rooms. The only negative experience we started to have with Cedargate is when my grandfather's Alzheimer's started to get worse. Because he was confused and didn't know where he was a lot of the time, he tried running away several times, and succeeded the final time. After that, we removed him from Cedargate. So if you have a loved one that's interested in a cozy place to stay put, this is it. If not, look elsewhere.
