The Best Senior Living Communities in Twin Lake, MI

"I toured Woodland Gardens. That one was very nice as well. They have a live-in guy, which is kind of cool. So he's there all the time, and then he has a couple of days off where other people come in. Other than the ones who came in to help out when we were there, he was making cookies and making lunch and doing it all. He lives right there, so there's somebody there at night all the time. They don't have to worry about somebody calling in at night to not show up or somebody having to work a double because somebody doesn't show up or whatever. I guess all their buildings have a live-in person. They have up to six residents. They have single rooms with half baths. They have a tub and shower room that they can shower in, and the bathroom itself has a toilet and a sink. The manager-owner himself came out, and all of those who were working there were very knowledgeable about everything as well. He'd been there for four years, the fellow that lives there. He was doing laundry, and there was a pile of laundry on the couch that had to be folded."

"American House Spring Lake was nice. It had a two-bedroom-two-bathroom that it could have gotten there, but the view out the window kind of turned me off because it was overlooking the parking lot. I don't want to spend my days looking at a parking lot. The apartment itself was great, but the view was horrible. The person I spoke with was very patient because I don't move fast because I use a walker. She was very patient and very thorough about what was available. I got the chance to see most of the facilities, and they seemed to be nice. Everything looked good. She had put some effort into my visit to the point that she had a little gift bag for me with some stuff in it. I saw the weight room, and they had a laundry service, too."

"My friend has moved into Baldwin House Lloyd's Bayou. It's very nice. It is very well kept up. It was really a godsend to us. The issue is with the concierge services. For people who don't have a lot of money, it can be difficult. The family will need to be involved if they can't afford all the concierge services, but what they do provide is very good and top quality. The staff members are well-educated. They are very professional and caring and they try and help all they can. My friend is not using all the services, so I can't necessarily say everything is five-stars, but everything I've encountered has been five-star quality. Their facilities are very large and spacious. They have different common facilities on each level. They have a card-playing room and a billiards room. They have movie room where they show movies for the group. They really do offer a lot of very nice amenities, and they have an exercise room, too. It's very clean and it's very welcoming. They just do things right, but it is expensive."

"I called here two days ago and talked with April and found her to be informative and helpful. Although your apartments are not section 8 or Humana friendly, and I am not able to proceed. I can tell just by speaking with April that she did not judge me for my mother's current situation of homelessness and she was nothing but compassionate and listened to me and even though she doesn't know this but my day was made a little better now because of her. If I'm ever able to refer anyone that can afford those prices I will consider The Oaks."

"I've only been in Harbor Terrace Senior Living for a couple of months now. I'm in assisted living and there are some shortcomings. The food is the only thing in the institution that I'd rate as 5. I'm getting three meals a day. I go to the dining room and the food is good. There's a good variety and you have a lot of choices. As far as housekeeping, it's poor. I've been here two months and my apartment has been vacuumed maybe once, and that's about it. The bathrooms are clean. I think they've been cleaned maybe once every week or two. Laundry is done on demand. The laundry is labeled, but I quite often lose things in the laundry. I never get them back. The staff is good. They try hard, but sometimes they're overworked with other residents, which can happen in a facility like this. When I need help, I have to wait an extremely long time. There's no call for emergencies. There's a call light in the bathroom or by the bed for an emergency for a fall. Otherwise, if I were to fall in the building or anywhere, there's no call for emergency. I could lay there for a while before somebody found me. I am in a one-room apartment. There's no kitchen, just a microwave. There's a bathroom, a large bedroom, and a seating area in the bedroom. The amenities and activities are good. It is new. Everything is brand new. The rent is a lot higher than independent living, which is understandable, but for what I'm getting for the extra money as far as assisted living, it's just barely making it. I don't think it's worth it. I'm not getting that much assisted living for the extra cost. We're established on a lake, so it's a very nice outdoor view and you can go out and ride large boats because we're right on the Great Lakes right near Lake Michigan. They have their own dock and they'll have fishing if you're interested. There's a lot to do and they do transportation for you to participate. They'll have a bus trip just around the lake or just to enjoy the outdoors."

"Christian Care is very nice and clean. The staff members who I met and talked to were all nice. They had a game room where they can do bingo, puzzles together, and play cards. They keep the residents busy. They also have a nice, clean laundry area. The room is freshly painted, nice, and clean. The carpeting looks new, too. The bedroom, living room, and dining room are all in one room."

"It is absolutely wonderful. The staff there is very passionate and takes very good care of my husband. They have all kinds of different activities for the residents there."

"I am a former Army medic - I have seen good caregivers and these guys are SUPER great. I worked at an Army hospital and I know when people do not like caring for people. These people are very nice and they make my mom very comfortable - and me and my Aunt and Uncle and sister as well. It live in a big city where bad stuff happens - I thank God she’s there and not a big city place where people can be quite mean sometimes. They are all Very patient with my mom and sincere. VERY thankful she is there."

"We really loved Nelson Place. It was the place that we would want to go to should we want to move in and we could afford it. We liked that it was an apartment and not just a room. They had a lot of activities. They had an exercise room, a library and card room. They also do crafts. They had a dining room if you wanted to eat there. I thought they also had a bus if you needed transportation. The residents there were very happy. "

"As we walked into the door at The Cove at Lake Woods-Muskegon, the staff was really helpful and friendly. They give us directions on how to get down to the administrator's office. So, that was impressive. Then the coordinator that you spoke to was just outstanding. As we walked the entire length of the facility, we were impressed with the cleanliness, the attentiveness of the staff, and the demeanor of the residents. It seemed like everybody was well taken care of. I didn't see or detect anything that would tell me otherwise. I also like that everything has secure locks on every door. So overall, we were very impressed with this place and if anybody is considering that facility, I would highly recommend it. I didn't get a sense of lack of care in this facility, so I was quite impressed with it."

"Christian Care Nursing Center is quite a new facility, and the whole family is happy with his location there. It is divided into three different units. One of the units is called the memory unit and that is where my brother-in-law is living now. Everything is new and state-of-the-art, excellent unit. It is only five days that he has been there, so we haven't checked the activities yet, but we know they do exist. The food is excellent. I was glad to see that he ate his entire meal and enjoyed it. I think it would rate the highest. "

"I am currently at McAuley Rehabilitation and Wellness for rehab. I have had nothing but great care. All the workers seem to be very nice and friendly. They are responsible and they stick to their schedules. They have marvelous food here. Everything is homemade, right down to the waffles, pancakes, and soups. They mop and sweep the floors and clean the bathroom every day. And then, somebody runs one of those big vacuum cleaners every other day. They take great care with doing your laundry. You just hit your button for anything you need here, and they're right here asking what they can help you with. The TV channels are much better here, and it's well worth the money compared to the assisted living where I live."
