Assisted Living Communities in Twin Lake, MI

"I toured Woodland Gardens. That one was very nice as well. They have a live-in guy, which is kind of cool. So he's there all the time, and then he has a couple of days off where other people come in. Other than the ones who came in to help out when we were there, he was making cookies and making lunch and doing it all. He lives right there, so there's somebody there at night all the time. They don't have to worry about somebody calling in at night to not show up or somebody having to work a double because somebody doesn't show up or whatever. I guess all their buildings have a live-in person. They have up to six residents. They have single rooms with half baths. They have a tub and shower room that they can shower in, and the bathroom itself has a toilet and a sink. The manager-owner himself came out, and all of those who were working there were very knowledgeable about everything as well. He'd been there for four years, the fellow that lives there. He was doing laundry, and there was a pile of laundry on the couch that had to be folded."

"I toured American House Spring Lake. The building was nice. I did not see as many people out in the halls or interacting with each other. I didn't see the staff interact as much with the residents, but it could have been the time of day. They didn't serve dinner. The apartments were adequate. They had pretty much the same features in them, but they were quite nice. I wasn't as impressed with the staff."

"Robbinswood has a convenient location. I chose it for the level of care they can handle, cleanliness and affordability, the value of it was very good. They had a lot of nice activities, they play bingo, arts and crafts and they do beauty break which I think my mom enjoyed most of all. They paint their nails and there's a hair salon available for the residents. My mom had a semi-private room with a shared bathroom. The food is great. What I like best is their caring staff, they were friendly and knowledgeable. "

"I toured The Oaks. It had beautiful grounds and a beautiful building. It's very old, but very well-kept. The rooms are extremely small for independent living. I think the largest was 700 square feet. The bathroom was not ideal, and that's why we didn't pursue that place. I just got a text message yesterday from a person who has just taken over the position of the person I talked to. It's a new person now, but the person I spoke to within the last two and a half years was very pleasant and helpful. They had a beautiful dining room. One on each floor. The facility is so large that they provide you with a valet for the first two weeks there so you don't get lost on the way to the dining room."

"I've only been in Harbor Terrace Senior Living for a couple of months now. I'm in assisted living and there are some shortcomings. The food is the only thing in the institution that I'd rate as 5. I'm getting three meals a day. I go to the dining room and the food is good. There's a good variety and you have a lot of choices. As far as housekeeping, it's poor. I've been here two months and my apartment has been vacuumed maybe once, and that's about it. The bathrooms are clean. I think they've been cleaned maybe once every week or two. Laundry is done on demand. The laundry is labeled, but I quite often lose things in the laundry. I never get them back. The staff is good. They try hard, but sometimes they're overworked with other residents, which can happen in a facility like this. When I need help, I have to wait an extremely long time. There's no call for emergencies. There's a call light in the bathroom or by the bed for an emergency for a fall. Otherwise, if I were to fall in the building or anywhere, there's no call for emergency. I could lay there for a while before somebody found me. I am in a one-room apartment. There's no kitchen, just a microwave. There's a bathroom, a large bedroom, and a seating area in the bedroom. The amenities and activities are good. It is new. Everything is brand new. The rent is a lot higher than independent living, which is understandable, but for what I'm getting for the extra money as far as assisted living, it's just barely making it. I don't think it's worth it. I'm not getting that much assisted living for the extra cost. We're established on a lake, so it's a very nice outdoor view and you can go out and ride large boats because we're right on the Great Lakes right near Lake Michigan. They have their own dock and they'll have fishing if you're interested. There's a lot to do and they do transportation for you to participate. They'll have a bus trip just around the lake or just to enjoy the outdoors."

"Christian Care is very nice and clean. The staff members who I met and talked to were all nice. They had a game room where they can do bingo, puzzles together, and play cards. They keep the residents busy. They also have a nice, clean laundry area. The room is freshly painted, nice, and clean. The carpeting looks new, too. The bedroom, living room, and dining room are all in one room."

"I could not ask for a better place. The facility was brand-new when my grandmother moved in and very nice. She received three wonderful meals a day and the staff were always able to make special meal accommodations if necessary. The staff were very helpful and well trained. They were always able to meet all of her needs and answer any questions that her family may have had. She had access to many activities including trips out to places such as the farmer's market which she very much enjoyed. Also, she was able to get basic beauty needs such as her hair and nails done without even having to leave. The staff are friendly and greet me amicably every time I visit. I have no doubt that my grandmother is very well looked after there which eases my anxiety about her care. I would recommend this facility to anybody looking for assisted living in the area. "

"My mom chose The Cove at Lake Woods because she wants to stay close to the town where my father was buried. It got nursing and assisted living facility. I tried to get her in Iowa and find a facility here, but she elected to stay here. Also given the cost factor, this facility is affordable for her, and I have to admit that this was a good choice for her. "

"Seminole was absolutely lovely. It was a wonderful place. My sister's friend was staying there and she was very happy. I felt like she was very well taken care of. There was an adorable and very comfortable room owned by a lady who was 100 years old and it was her 100th birthday when I went there and she told she would go out dancing that night. That's how well they took care of their residents. However, it was way too pricey for us. "

"My sister is at DaySpring Assisted Living. It's got long corridors but it's decorated kind of Victorian. It's pretty old-fashioned. The staff are very kind and friendly. It is very cozy. The colors are warm and there are flowers everywhere. Older people like that kind of stuff. It's a little comfortable place. They have little nooks. There was a place where they were planting flowers. The rooms are a little smaller, but they have very good security. I don't remember seeing them doing activities, but they were available."

"Fountainview Retirement Village of Fremont is a 20-unit facility. They have an excellent staff to resident ratio, and they were friendly. Their amenities were pretty average for its size. They have a nice outdoor area for such a small facility. It just felt a bit crowded. All it takes is a few residents to be out and about. They have narrow hallways and the inside was a bit not in a good condition. It's an older building, but I think the big plus there was the staff, including the ratio of staff to residents, and their teamwork and enthusiasm. I think part of it was it's not a very big staff, so you get to know everybody."

"My mom has moved to Green Acres of Fremont because of the location. The establishment was clean, clean-smelling, and inviting. Everybody I talked to was knowledgeable and friendly. They have a lot of activities that I think my mom would like to have in her daily routine. The staff that gave me the tour was good. Marcy was great. They run a nice and friendly atmosphere. Every single person that I met was friendly, forthcoming, and smiling. They just seemed to be nice people. I looked at the room, which was spacious and clean. It looked really nice. As far as the food, I didn't try it. I did go into the kitchen, while some of the other patients or family members were enjoying a meal. It was all nice. It didn't feel like a cattle herd, and it didn't feel like it was militarily regimented. It was all friendly, nice, and easy. There was a lot of space and freedom. It was all good. They have a game room with certain games set up. They also have memory games, where they play trivia stuff. It is easy trivia, but enough to keep people occupied. They have a TV room, where they certainly have nice cushy chairs and TVs to watch. They have their weekly socials, like ice cream socials. The staff that gave the tour was very knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and caring. She listened with empathy. She didn't just check, check, check the boxes. There was a lot of pertinent questions that she was asking that applied really well."
