"We chose Northern Pines Assisted Living for my sister because there are fewer people in there, and they can take more interest in each person. They showed me what room she was going to be in. They seem to care more about the patients; they keep them occupied, and have people come in and help. It was very nice and very clean. Christina gave the tour, and she was really nice and considerate. They're responsible. You don't have to bring in your bed and chairs. They already got the room ready for my sister."

"We went to Northern Star Assisted Living. We did not like it at all. The staff was good, but the room was very small. It smelled old, stuffy, musty, hot, and very unpleasant. I think they need to air the place out and freshen it up. It was an old hotel that they converted. The staff was very friendly. I saw the food. It looked OK, and they seemed to be eating it."

"My mom was at Woodside Village Apartments. It's called independent living, but the aids that work there, they gave her her medicine and stuff. So it's kind of assisted, but it's considered independent living. The staff is wonderful but it was like being in prison, they were confined to their rooms most of the time. The room was OK. It wasn't upgraded and it was just outdated. Where they had my mom, it was an easy layout for her. My mom swept the porch everyday cause she thought the porch needed to be swept. It's in the woods, so there's leaves and stuff all over that. It's right in town. The staff is great, and the food is good, but I wouldn't recommend it."

"I am a resident of LaFranier Woods. I have been here since it opened up and I’m very pleased and happy living here. There are so many things to do. There is a workout room, a library, a game room with a pool table, we have a craft room, a salon, and a wonderful dining room with a terrific chef. The food is wonderful and is very healthy. The office personnel are very caring and helpful with anything you need. We have a maintenance man also. I have a two bedroom one and a half bath. I believe it’s about 960 ft.² plenty of room for one to two people. I enjoy playing games here at the apartment complex. Our Activity Director is very vivacious and has a wide variety of activities. There is a bus that takes you to the groceries store once a week for those that prefer to grocery shop that way. All in all I’m very happy here. It is my home now."

"I am a resident of MediLodge of Traverse City. The staff here is very good. They're always friendly. They're very competent. They listen to the residents' requests. They serve three meals a day, and you have the option of eating in your room or going down to the dining room. There's a regular schedule of things like bingo, trips to Target, reading groups, and things like that. There are usually 3 or 4 things going on throughout the day."

"I think Boardman Lake Glens assisted living is wonderful and the care is wonderful. The only problem we had is that my mom needed a step up in the care and there was a drastic miscommunication between the nurse that was on the floor and the manager of the whole unit. That was all resolved and it's going just beautifully right now again. Their rooms are gorgeous. Her room overlooks a lake. She has her bedroom, own bathroom, living room, and a little kitchenette. It couldn't be nicer for her. We're so pleased that we were able to find that place so we were upset at the thought of having her leave. The food is delicious. She loves it. They have bingo and exercise. They had a person there when we were visiting her this summer and she brought in cups of ice cream for everyone. Another time she had little things, like little treats for them because it was a holiday. Mother had some art projects that she's worked on in her room too. The staff is very caring and they meet all of her needs."

"After my grandmother died, my family decided to move my grandfather closer to our family home. Of all of the possible facilities in Traverse City, the Grand Traverse Pavilions was bar far the best choice. He absolutely loved his stay there until his recent death. The rooms are gorgeous, and the grounds are even more beautiful. My grandfather was in reasonably good health, and walked the beautiful wooded paths almost daily. He made new friends there, with whom he ate meals and chatted regularly. The food was pleasant, and the whole family ate there on several occasions when we went to visit him. My grandfather never complained of his life at The Pavilions. He had a comfortable and large room with all of the amenities he needed. It was always tidy and pleasant. When I visited, the place didn't feel like an assisted living facility or retirement home, but more like his own apartment that he could call home. I can't express enough praise for the facilities at Grand Traverse Pavilions. My grandfather was happy to live his last days there, and I was happy that he was able to finish his life in such comfort. "

"My Mom and Dad stayed at Traverse Manor for almost 10 years, with my Dad passing first about 7 years ago. Many times they shared “this is the best place for us to be” through a series of family celebrations and health events. They had a one bedroom apartment, meals, cleaning services and access to friends and the staff. The staff loved on them over the years and as each one passed, we were touched by how much they too felt the loss. The staff has always been open to suggestions to address challenges posed by aging, and implemented a support plan to that my Mom and Dad could remain independent yet supported for their medications and daily care. I would recommend Traverse Manor to anyone considering either assisted living or an apartment with home health care services. It is a special place."

"My mother moved into the French Manor South, and they treat her very well. The staff is very attentive, and I feel she's very safe there. The apartment or living area is a small living room, a bedroom, a large bathroom, and a large storage closet. The living room has a kitchenette in it. The dining room is very nice. They do have a barber, and a salon available. They have foot care clinics, and she has a nurse practitioner that checks on her. Some areas have shelves with books on it. They have, a front porch outside, they have a little garden, and there's a little creek nearby. They have no exercise room, but I think they do some exercise. She has a physical therapist that's seeing her. My mother likes the food, which is unusual."
