Memory Care Communities in Fredericksburg, TX

"My husband is a resident of Morning Star Memory Care of Fredericksburg LLC. The people are caring. It's a very homey atmosphere. The food is very good. The facility is old and it needs updating. It's all memory care and there's only a maximum of 15 residents. They have activities for family too, almost once a month they have a big dinner for everybody. They have the TV going and everybody kind of sits in one big room. They could do something a little more than what they do, the person that used to be there was great, and now they have somebody that -- I haven't seen any activity. They have good, caring, and loving caretakers."

"I toured Arbor House Fredericksburg. It reminded me of kind of like a Vermont farmhouse. It's a beautiful sight. The only negative is it's on a major north-south road, but you can't hear anything when you're inside the building. I only mentioned that because that's about the only thing I could think of that was a minus. It was spread out. All of the rooms are very nice, and the community rooms where you could hang out were spacious and very friendly. The person who gave the tour was wonderful and very, very friendly. She answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. The kitchen looked very nice. The dining room area where they were getting ready to serve the meal, looked very nice."

"I'm very happy with New Haven Kerrville. I had spoken to a lady there, and she is going to reserve me a room for my dad. The director was fabulous. My dad is in between. He's too bad for assisted living because he could come and go as he pleases, and I'm afraid he'll get lost, but he's not quite so bad as some of the people there, so we've got a real problem. The director has been there 10 years and she's very confident that she can handle him for me to stay away the first few weeks, and then I'll have my helper go and take him wherever he wants to go and all that. I like the fact that it was all memory care, and they didn't have the residents locked apart because, in the assisted-memory combos, the facilities are prettier, but they get locked behind this door and it's different. I was hoping my father could have an apartment, but they don't offer that. It's just more of a big room, but my father can have a sofa, a bed, a TV, a private bath, and all that sort of thing. So I think that it'll be okay as long as someone is coming and taking him out. I was just very pleased. I like the fact that it's open and that they have menus for meals, and you can pick what you want. The staff said that if my father is up at 1 in the morning and he wants grilled cheese, they'll make him one. She said she takes them out in small groups. Five men were ambulatory like my father, and they were normal but had Alzheimer's. It was very clean. There were no odors. It was quiet, which was the other thing I liked. The only thing I didn't like is that it was more institutional than homey in some ways. Usually, when you walk into them, there is a bouquet of flowers and maybe some art on the wall and that sort of thing, and it wasn't that way. That was the only thing. It was just very stark, but you can do the rooms any way you want to do them. You can decorate them with art and do whatever you want to do."

"River Point of Kerrville did not have anything available when I visited. They have a waiting list. I met the nurse on staff and she was very friendly and nice. The lady that showed me around was accommodating. It's a beautiful place. I think it's a little bit higher as far as cost. The dining area was very nice. They have menus posted and you have alternate choices. If you didn't like what was on that day, you could get something different. The apartments were very nice, not very big. Some had more closet space than others. It depended on the size and all of that you could afford, but they were all very nice and well-appointed, and people seemed to be happy there. I saw some people doing exercises and I met a couple that lived there together. They were very nice. They let us see their apartment. The appliances all looked nice, too. They had microwaves and refrigerators. Most of them opened out onto little patio areas where you could walk outside or see outside. I liked that part."

"I toured. It is a brand-new building. It's like only four years old, so it was very nice in that respect. It's up on a little hill. It's about right up above the hospital. It's close to downtown. Once or twice a week, they give you a ride down to Walmart, the grocery store, the library, and so forth. They have outdoor spaces both front and back, very country-like. One other thing is that it is very low density. I forget the exact number of rooms, but I think it was only around 50."
