"My husband was at Charlene Manor Extended Care. We chose it because it was like 20 minutes away from our house, and I got good recommendations from different people. It was rehab care. They showed him how to walk with one leg, or move around and get on chairs, and get off chairs, and stuff like that. Most people were kind and good to him. Regarding food, I ate supper with him, and it costs me $3 to do that. It was OK; it wasn't bad. Because they're short-staffed, some things didn't get done. Nevertheless, when I went in and visited, they welcomed me. Everything was pretty. They had flowers out, they had a big piano there, they had people singing, and a little guy was playing guitar. It was lovely. They really sold the place. They had television, bingo, and exercises. They had a lot of books there to read. They offered a lot of activities. They had a schedule, and each day they would tell you what was going on, so you could go with that activity if you wanted to or not."

"My mother has been happy at the Arbors, thought initially the move was challenging. To leave her long time home after the death of my father took some adjustment, but she had the right attitude and she had found the right place. The staff is friendly and helpful, the facility clean and well managed. The apartments are small, but still offer privacy to the residents. The cost is reasonable, and it is nice that our mother can still live in Greenfield. "

"My wife is at Poet's Seat Health Care Center. She still needs assistance with walking, sitting, and standing, but she's improving, she's not agitated, and she's cooperative. I like the staff. I'm pleased. I have not been able to see the rooms because of COVID. I visited her once, and it was in a common area. They don't let you in to the rooms. She's working with PT and with the social worker. She certainly needs nursing care assistance and care with toileting. They have some activities, but she's very limited in what she can do."

"My experience with the Farren Care Center in Turners Falls, MA was a good one. I found the nursing staff to be caring and compassionate and most importantly they were very patient with my loved one. This is a long term care facility for people who have a medical diagnosis as well as a psychological diagnosis, so the patients are often difficult and they are always testing boundaries. I think it's important for the nursing staff to maintain the set boundaries, but they find a caring and cheerful way to redirect their residents. Residents follow a relatively tight schedule (which serves this facility well) and they are paired up with aides and nurses that are familiar with their requirements for care and who become their friends and family over time. It's important to say that this is a charitable facility and many of the residents have no family or friends come to visit them. The Farren provides a large family for people who were given up on years ago. "

"Vernon Green had the most compassionate staff I have seen. I, unfortunately, had to have my grandfather placed in a facility for the last few weeks of his life. I felt extremely guilty because I had promised him I would never do this. His doctor and I decided this was the right route to take to re-evaluate his medications and hopefully get him on the right track. This ended up being the wrong decision as he passed away a couple weeks later. The staff was extraordinary. The facility is extremely clean and people take their jobs seriously -- from the housekeepers to the kitchen staff to the janitors to the executives etc. There are several activities for participants to take part of and enjoy. There are three different levels at the facility -- assisted living, the Alzheimer's unit and the general nursing home area. "

"I was in this facility from Dec to Feb. The OT and PT staff did an excellent job. Just the right amount of pushing to get you to go beyond where you were comfortable. They were all cheerful and upbeat. The nursing staff were caring and kind. They explained what they were doing and wh.y. The nursing assistants were glad to help wash you up, make your bed and any other things you needed done. The nursing home does not have any odor and was kept very clean. The meals were tasty and more like home made than institutional. I would definitely go back to this facility if necessary. I was more than pleased. "

"My mother recently moved to The Linda Manor from a nearby Independent Living facility. As she has been losing her sight she has needed more care. The staff at The Linda Manor has seen to all of my mother’s requests and needs. She is settling in and is very comfortable. The entire facility is clean and bright, and the staff is to a person cheerful and quick to help. They have worked with our family as a team to give my mother the support that she needs. They are quick to answer our calls. I highly recommend The Linda Manor."

"I have friends who live in Rockridge Retirement Community. The facility is excellent. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. When I eat in the dining room, it's very pleasant. The food was good, better than average institutional food. My friend's apartment is beautiful. And, because it's in the five college areas, they have professors come in to give talks on current events. I attended a chair yoga session, which was fun, and they've had talented musicians come in to play music."

"My brother-in-law is already in Thompson House. The staff that I met all seemed very well qualified, very kind, and very nice. It’s certainly clean. My brother-in-law is doing far better since he’s been there, so he seems to be well cared for. He’s obviously getting better nutrition, and better meds management than he had at home. So, he’s looking better and sounding clearer. He does have some dementia so he can be bad. He clearly sounds more lucid, and clearer since he’s been there; so I think he’s being well cared for. It looks more institutional. It does not look like a home at all. On the other hand, everybody seems kind, responsive, well-qualified, and the care is very good. So far, I’m very happy with it. "

"I visited this facility. This place is nice and is close to Brattleboro downtown area. I didn't have time to look at the rooms and didn't have interaction with the staff either. There's a lot of land to sit and walk. I saw the residents eating in a dining room which was really beautiful. Some residents were doing crafts, knitting and painting. During that time, workers were busy enlarging the buildings and doing some renovations. "

"We moved my husband to The Arbors at Amherst Massachusetts memory care unit. They seem quite responsive, and he's still making an adjustment to that switch. It's a very good place. He seems to be adequately cared for. They're responsive if something happens. They contact us, we contact them, and they are always available. It's a positive experience. We moved him to the memory care unit because he needed that extra care. The staff was very nice, attentive, and they created a friendly atmosphere. The thing about Amherst is that they have more activities, a greater variety of activities, both in assisted living and especially in memory care. The food is better there. In the Amherst memory unit, that door is locked. The residents who live there are locked in, but they have a door that goes out to a big deck where they can walk out. So, they have access to the outside whenever they want it, even though they're not permitted to leave that part of the building. So, that's very good."
