"I thought Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks was welcoming, clean, and active. The rooms were adequate. It seemed that things were kept up very well. The person who gave me the tour was very good, very informative, and answered my questions. He was very patient with my questions. I have not had a chance to try their food, but the dining area looked adequate and clean when I saw it, which was not at mealtime. I would feel comfortable putting my mother-in-law there and having her stay there. I observed bingo, which was well attended. The utdoor space was OK, it's not the greatest for memory care people. It's very small."

Unfortunately, I thought my parents had progressed beyond the point where they weren’t going to be looking at independent living and would probably need assisted living. "Buckingham Heights was only dedicated exclusively to memory care so that they can address every need at every stage, whatever happens to your loved one who's got dementia. Suzanne assisted us with the tour and she was wonderful. She's been there a long time and can answer any question you have. The other shining star thing that I would say about the place was that they had a lot of staff who have been there for many years. They have relatively low turnover and there is a lot of staff. They have like a 5-year, 15-year, and 20-year club for those staff who have been there that long. The dining area looked very nice. The rooms were basic but pleasant. The idea there was not to spend all your time in your room. So, the room was just a place to dress and bathe and sleep. But the life of the place was based on keeping the residents engaged and active. When it comes to the activities, they are appropriate for people with memory issues. They have an inner courtyard that is freely available for residents to go into on their own. For the outside patios, you need to have somebody with you. Even their physical facilities were designed to give the most freedom and autonomy to their residents."

"Hoffman SummerWood generates a lot of people of the Jewish faith. It is basically built by Jewish people, so the food is kosher, and the majority of their residents are Jewish. There is nothing wrong with that, but I didn't think my parents would acclimate to that type of environment. It was clean and beautiful, but it wasn't what my mom and dad would need. The staff was excellent. The individual that showed us around was great. She answered a lot of questions. At the end, she actually had the chef prepare three meals for me to bring back for my mom and dad. It was a salmon salad, which was just very lovely. It was absolutely beautiful. However, it would have been nice if the grounds were kept up a little bit more. There were patio chairs tipped over, and it could have been because it was raining the night before, but other than that, it was absolutely gorgeous, it just wasn't what my parents would probably feel comfortable in. The rooms were beautiful, but I was looking for a place that had a patio. I was a little discouraged that they didn't have that because that's like a big piece of what would probably sell my mom, the opportunity for her to break out of her room and have a space of her own and not necessarily to have to walk through the whole facility to go out into the courtyard."

"The staff was very attentive. The place was very clean. They have activities for the residents like gardening. The house and community I saw looked happy. But I kind of put that on the back burner for a while, because I'm not prepared. I'm just not ready for that right now because I'm able to cook for myself, wash my dishes, and clean the house. But when the time comes, and it could be tomorrow, I'll be ready for it. "

"I went to Avery Heights. I like the openness of the facility, and I like the activity that I saw around, and people interacting. It was very well maintained. It was clean, and they seemed to be very active on that. There were several floor plans available, and they all looked appropriate. For me, the one-bedroom is maybe a little small. Other than that, the floor plans were fine."
