I had placed my mother in Amelia Manor Nursing Home. I like the way the staff care about my mother. The staff are fantastic. I have not tried the food, but my mom tells me that the food is really good. She had one complaint about a tuna fish sandwich, she didn't care for it, but other than that, she said the food was good, and she highly praised the people there, saying that they're really good there. It's an older building and it could use a little updating, but other than that, I have no complaints. They're very clean. For activities, they have bingo, they have coloring, and they have two church services on Sunday (a Catholic service and a non-denominational service). They have outings to Wal-Mart, too. I don't pay anything. It's Medicaid and Medicare graded. My mother is on Medicaid and Medicare.

Both my sister and her husband were at Amelia Manor Nursing Home. It was not great. They had both of them in one room. My brother-in-law said, "I think I've seen prisoner-of-war facilities that were about like this." The rooms were very small. This building was much older and not as well maintained as the place they're in currently. Their food was not very good. Family members were not allowed to come and take them out of that facility for any reason, so they did a very good job of monitoring that. The rehab was fine. My sister had a broken hip, and she's very fragile, and they got her walking. They had some activities, and they put puzzles together and some things like that. Their medications were administered correctly. They're in a shared room. It had two beds and a chair. You couldn't put two chairs in there. They had their walkers and so forth, so it was pretty crowded. They had two little closets and a small bathroom and could get their walkers in. The food was what they complained about the most. There was a television room and kind of a living room type thing where they could go. They took most of their meals to their rooms. They didn't go to a dining room. Some of the staff members and the therapist were very good. However, every time I needed them to be dressed and ready to go to a doctor's appointment like the day they were going to be discharged. I had to sign the papers and everything and they still didn't have them ready to go. They were looking for their things. I needed to take them to a doctor's appointment and good thing I came early because my sister was still in her nightgown and it was like lunchtime. They had a trust account and the lady who handled it wasn't there and they were going to call me the next day and they never did. I have some money coming back from them. The layout of the facility was kind of typical. You got the hallways going off the center, but it was a very tired facility. The cleaning and the maintenance could be certainly better.

I have a friend at Amelia Manor. It is a very clean facility. They have a very caring nurse practitioner. The DON is very approachable. It's in a quiet location. Home cooked Cajun meals

Amelia Manor is located in a quiet part of the neighborhood. This community was my husband's favorite. We felt that the facility itself was clean and well taken care of. The staff was friendly. We felt that the patients there were well cared for.
