"My overall experience with Hamptons Retirement Community at Greenridge was good. One of the things we liked about it was they had a large number of cottages, which we were interested in. They had garages and ample room. It was like home. They also had apartments. They did not have meal plans like the other places we visited. "

"We were met by very nice people in The Hamptons. Their staff was very helpful and accommodating. The manager who took us around was very nice. She showed us some of the facility's amenities. They have a beauty shop, an exercise room, a coffee room and a dining room. If we have guests, she said we could bring them in the dining room. She also showed us one of their two-bedroom and two-bath cottages. She also took us to one of their apartments and the guy who lived there was nice enough to let us come in and see his apartment. They also have a bus that takes their tenants to stores and takes them out shopping. They gave us some banana bread to bring home and it was good. Overall, this facility has everything you need. If we have to move anywhere, I'm sure we'll move in this place. "

"I toured Autumn Wind. I liked all of it. The people I talked with were nice and the facilities were fantastic. It is a little expensive, but they're all expensive. They showed me two different kinds of rooms. There's a room with a little kitchen area and stuff. And then they showed me a 1-bedroom; I liked that very well. It had a door to go outside into the hall. It had beautiful scenery. Everything was just so nice. They serve meals and take care of everything. When my son and I went, it was on a Saturday afternoon. As we were going in the door, a gentleman that works there came out with a group of men, and they all had fishing poles. They were going fishing. And the lady that is in charge of the activities was getting her group of women together to go someplace and do something. They do not have transportation on Sundays, though. I had asked about going to church, but they do have a minister that comes in once a week and gives a Bible study, and he comes in another day and holds a church service. They have three levels of care. On the lower one, they will come in, tie your shoes for you, and help you get dressed. They said that because I am a little unsteady, somebody will come in and sit with me while I take a shower. The staff was very, very knowledgeable and very pleasant. She answered my and my son's questions without any hesitation. She knew what she was doing. They gave me a sheet that listed their weekly menu on the meals. They said you can come to the dining room, or they will bring your meal to your room if you wish."

"Arabella of Kilgore was a very nice place with very nice people, but they also had very high rates. They had food service in the cafeteria, and they could take it to their room if they wanted to. They had nice, comfortable, and large rooms. The facilities were very nice and they were very clean."

"I liked Lake View Apartments. It's on the lower level, not upstairs, and all the apartments are flats. It's pretty big and roomy. I liked the two bedrooms, they were good. They got two-inch blinds, and the refrigerators were white. I thought they were supposed to be stainless steel, but they're white. The countertops are good, but I kind of wish they had more upgrades, like, stainless steel appliances. The staff doing the tour is very friendly and courteous. They have activities for you to do during the week, and they have vans that come through and take you to the store once a month or something. The property is clean."

"Garden Estates of Tyler was good, pleasant, and in a good location. Their independent living was too independent for my mother's needs. Their rooms were very attractive. Their facilities were spacious and seemed excellent to me. Their staff was friendly and helpful. Their activities seemed pretty good but limited. "

"Primrose Retirement Community-Tyler was relatively new. They had a separate clubhouse just for the villas where they frequently got together, had meals, activities, and entertainment. The food, the facility, the staff, and everything about that place was good, except for the price. The lady that gave the tour was very good with her information. She was not pushy and she understood that we couldn't come there because of the cost."

"Legends of Lindale only has independent living and no other levels of care. They have separate or stand-alone cottages, and it's like going down a little street in a small community. They are two-bedroom cottages with attached garages. They support the community to come up with different activities, so the residents can decide what they want to do. They have a walking group and there's a calendar that they put out. They had a big rec hall where the residents come in and it's like a neighborhood party. They have a community building or a clubhouse where you can go and do your potlucks or whatever you want to do. They also have transportation. When we just walked through the place, the residents said that when they propose something the community provides supplies or allocates money toward it. So everything is planned by the residents themselves. If they want to take a trip and enough people have signed up, they pool the money and take over, ordering a bus and planning all of it."
